PREMIUM BONDS - MAY 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2024 10:23

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs in April 2024 - so 1994 since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

God luck, this month, nearly there.

Not really.

Money in a child's account theirs and as you "have control" you are, technically, a trustee. They actually don't usually have control until age 18.

As trustee you must act in the child's best interests. Buying a car may or may not fit that category, but it definitely won't while they are too young to drive it or to legally own it.

You cannot put your money in another person's name really, and definitely not with PBs because they are linked to NI numbers. If you put your money in your child's name it would be their money. If you wanted it to remain your money you could not use PBs because that would be fraud - you cannot have extra tax relief.

I've got mine in my child's name and I'm using it for eg school trips that I can't afford. Is that OK?

Applesandpears23 · 28/06/2024 09:10

I think that’s fine. My mum had savings for me and we spent them on a school trip when I was 15 I wouldn’t otherwise have been able to go on.

SpinningTops · 28/06/2024 11:13

Does anyone know when I can withdraw funds and still be included in this months draw?
I need to take a biggish chunk out but obviously may as well wait until after the draw. Do I need to wait until the 2nd and everything appears on the app or has the draw been completed on the 1st?
Thank you knowledgable folk 😊

You can set up the withdrawal now, select to wait until after the next draw and it will go through automatically at the earliest opportunity. I think last time I did this it hit my account on the third working day of the month.

Ramdogs · 28/06/2024 13:57

Can someone please clarify this for me? I've made a deposit today and on the app it says eligible from 01.08.24. Does that mean the bonds are in the draw at the end of July or end of August please?

Feelingstrange2 · 28/06/2024 14:16

The draw official date isnt at the end of the month, its at the beginning.

So the 1st August draw is the first draw these bonds will be in.

(The savings have to be deposited one whole clear month with no draw. So, by putting it in and cleared today in June that means July is the clear month, and you start to be in draws in August.)

It's just on this thread we start to get excited as the end of the month! Plus, if you are a million winner they call you early so you know before it's announced so we all lile to discuss what cake we've baked for when they knock at the door!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/06/2024 14:25

We get excited from the middle of the month 😂😂

But yes aug

Ramdogs · 28/06/2024 14:40

Thanks. I think that's what had me confused as on here it all starts at the end of the month! So I can get excited at the end of July for these ones then!

JollyHostess101 · 28/06/2024 16:49

@Blondeshavemorefun thanks for the tip for about the post office I managed to pay Dads prize warrants in with very little fuss!!

Just topped my bonds up now we have settled his estate- 3 more draws for his bonds to go although we found his calendar clearing the house where he wrote down his winnings (in code 🤣) and last year before he won 5k before he passed away so hoping
for a little bit of his luck 😱

Good luck everyone 😀

Thepeppapigfanclub · 29/06/2024 06:30

Can anyone help. I've just bought some more bonds. Previously they have appeared immediately on my account. They aren't showing yet and on my bank statement it says something like 'payment made to NS and I made through third party'. Should I be worried?

Also - good luck to everyone.

ThePoshUns · 29/06/2024 07:20

I'm up and dressed for that knock on the door

good luck everyone

Bimblesalong · 29/06/2024 16:13

Good luck everyone! I enjoy the flurry on results evening the day before it shows on the cream app.

chaticat · 29/06/2024 16:32

Will they come round on a Sunday?

DaydreamerBetty · 29/06/2024 18:12

Good luck everyone for July’s draw 🍀

SB1971 · 29/06/2024 18:28

I’ve planned out what am going to do with 25/50/100k -so any of those would be fabulous . The big million involves more thinking but am happy to have that issue tomorrow.
Good luck everyone!

As smart, suited man with sunglasses got out of a car outside my house holding a briefcase earlier. He walked up to my house and I immediately thought ‘agent million’.

He knocked the door and asked DH if he was interested in hearing more about the JW church 😝. Bubble burst.

I also had this today! Mine was a jolly man in a suit and a sun hat. He even told me he had Good News. Then handed me a leaflet instead of a cheque 😭

ajandjjmum · 29/06/2024 20:48

Knowing nothing about Agent Million, when I got home today DH had blitzed the house. Clearly a sign!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/06/2024 21:32

AM is tomorrow aka Sunday

The day before the first working day of the month
