How much is your Sky subscription?

Poppins17 · 07/01/2024 15:54

Our subscription is up in April.

We currently pay £84.50 per month for sky Q, multi room and internet plus Netflix.

I want to try and get this down, but do not wish to leave Sky. Our only alternative in this area is BT and we tried them once and were useless.

We have to have multi room as we spend most of our time in our extension, with the main tv in the lounge.

We don’t have films or sports, but if I could get one or both included would be nice extra.

How much do you pay currently, and what do you get for it?

We paid about £85 a month with Sky for effectively the freeview package, with very slow internet (36mb/s) plus extra for a signal booster that was useless. I moved to Virgin and now pay £30 a month for 250mb/s internet which is loads better, and an equivalent TV package. It’s a huge saving. The problem with Sky is that if you threaten to leave they’ll offer a good deal for six months, but you’re tied in for two years and once the six months is up they’ll double the price again and you’re stuck with it.

Itsholly · 07/01/2024 16:02

£82 for roughly the same. Don't like paying it and want to pay less but don't want to reduce package so have been paying and moaning about it for ages.

Triptastico · 07/01/2024 16:18

I pay £85 for the same as you, mine's up in April too. And have the same dilemma as you.

I was looking at broadband only contracts and they're more expensive than I thought. By the time you add in Netflix etc there's not a great deal in it.

However saying that I'd like to pay less and not get sucked into a 2 year contract because I've agreed to all the discounts they've thrown at me when I "threaten" to leave. Confused

WombatBombat · 07/01/2024 16:21

£74 for ultrafast broadband, TV, sports, films, kids & Netflix.

FlyingCherub · 07/01/2024 16:23

Ours is £160 a month. Sky Q with 2 miniboxes (1 in master bed and 1 in grandkids room); internet, phone and most channels ie Sports, Movies and loads of Apps (Netflix, Apple TV etc). Our internet is horrendous but we're rural and only other option is BT.

AyeRightYeAre · 07/01/2024 16:27

£60

Broadband, TV including Netflix, Phone line (we don't use) and a brand new Sky Glass 43inch TV.

No films. Sport. Don't have multi room as not need but was quoted that tor an extra £10.

Cancel your contract and wait 2 days and they will phone you back with a good deal.

R3fluxbaby · 07/01/2024 16:32

£57 for TV, including Netflix, and fibre Internet 😁

R3fluxbaby · 07/01/2024 16:32

Oh and phone line!

Whatadayyyy · 07/01/2024 16:37

£60 for fibre internet, sky tv in 2 rooms and Netflix

Pushkinini · 07/01/2024 16:38

I was paying £77 for Fibre, Cinema and Sport. Tried to get them to do a better deal in December but they wouldn't, so I cancelled. Was fully expecting them to call with a good deal, but they didn't. I'd successfully done the whole cancel thing several times before. The Sky Q box has been sent back now so we are just on Freeview. It's fine. DH misses the sport but he'll live.

TinkerTiger · 07/01/2024 16:47

If you don't even get movies or sports, is the sky really worth it? Do you really watch a lot of TV that isn't available on freeview? Why not stick to Netflix and a decent service (fibre if you can get it) and depending on the cost maybe get one more subscription like prime or something?

PuzzlingRecluse · 07/01/2024 16:50

55 for sky q, cinema, kids & internet, I do the cheapo Netflix separately so all in 60 … you need to haggle with them op 😄

Deadhead2024 · 07/01/2024 16:52

We pay £95 but have been customers for over 10 years so are apparently receiving discounts with that. Sky Q with 1 mini box, movies, Ultra HD, Netflix, landline, and very fast broadband as we sometimes have 3 of us wfh. Seems a good price to me.

Bowbobobo · 07/01/2024 17:16

£34, just for basic TV. I get broadband from Virgin for £24 which is a much better service, and I keep meaning to ditch Sky but to be honest I don’t understand the different packages from either company so I just stick with what is currently working. When I replace my truly ancient TV I will reconfigure

BobnLen · 07/01/2024 17:16

£58 we are still on Sky+ HD by choice, we are out of contract but Sky q is same price for contract, no broadband, that is with BT. We have Sky HD, multiroom and cinema including paramount+.

internet though is quite variable with what you get so hard to tell if it's good value or not if not specific.

BobnLen · 07/01/2024 17:22

I don't think Sky do many deals now if you leave, there are threads on other forums about the lack of deals nowadays

AuntieJoyce · 07/01/2024 17:50

I left sky last year other than to keep the £5 a month basic package which doesn’t give you sky channels, but you still watch TV through the box. When I moved to my new house I contacted them and I’ve gone on to a standard sky package for £17 a month.

Internet is now virgin which works out at £22 a month

Poppins17 · 07/01/2024 18:42

Thanks everyone! I wish we had other options like virgin, but BT is our only other option here and I’m not going there again.

Sounds like what we’re paying is pretty average, I will however try to get a better deal when it’s up for renewal.

It's worth a phone call.
I got ours down to £60 something- and got free Spotify with it.
But don't have multi room- so it's maybe not comparable

Floralnomad · 07/01/2024 20:15

We have just moved to Sky stream ( we have BT fast fibre 300+ ) . I’m paying £64 for Sky , sports , netflix , multi room and ad skipping . We are loving the sky stream , it’s working really well as it connects to all the apps on the one remote whereas when we had the Sky dish we had to use the TVs actual remote .

niclw · 07/01/2024 20:16

£38 for the absolute basic package. I had to move away from sky broadband during lockdown to a relatively unknown company in order to get faster speeds. Sky can only offer me their slowest package. I've just got a new tv so that I can cancel Sky and subscribe to streaming channels instead.

Charcol · 07/01/2024 20:27

@Pushkinini Same as u earlier this week. We are paying £34 a month, for basic package and netflix. I called them, and didnt like anything they offeredas it was basically nothing.
So cancelled and currently on 30days run down.....

So they dont call back anymore to offer a deal? yikes my kids wont be happy, I have told them it will be resolved and wouldnt come to an actual cancellation lol.

Marmalade71 · 07/01/2024 20:27

Just moved to Sky Stream, paying £62pm for one "puck", Netflix and the sport. No films. Apparently multiroom would have been another £10. Impressed so far but requires a bit of a mindset change as there's no recording - all on demand streaming like iplayer. But for anyone who can't get a dish (and the line of sight requirements for Q are tighter than for HD - too much for our local treeline), it's an excellent alternative.

chickywoo · 07/01/2024 20:27

Sky are really
hard to haggle with these days they will offer you a ‘deal’ but it’s ridiculous so the only way forward Is to cancel, but don’t worry you can come back as a new customer a few days later ( they will say you can’t buy you can)
you get 60 days to send equipment back.
so you can carry on watching in the meantime ( with no subscription channels obvs) until your new installation date, on the new install date you will get new dish ( you could change location so you’ve got leads in each room) or keep it as it is,
you’ll also get new router etc.
then once you’ve got new stuff send old stuff back.
new customer deals you are looking at £43
a month for super fibre & TV & Netflix.
for internet whilst waiting for install date either survive with your phone internet for few weeks or get a three broadband hub that you can ‘ test out’ for free for 30 days then send back/cancel.
it’s just a little bit of messing about but definitely worth it to save £40/50 a month.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 07/01/2024 20:29

£45 for sky q, multiroom and netflix
