Anyone asked for a mandatory reconsideration for PIP recently

And how long did you wait? How did they let you know and did it go in your favour

Adviser not claimant but I've had them accepted, modified or rejected. At least one rejection was won at tribunal.

Time taken is a 'how long is a piece of string' question but normally in less than 21 days. Reviewers will sometimes speak to the claimant but I think the final outcome has to be in writing as the decision is (usually!!) needed to get an appeal into the Tribunal.

NotAscoob · 11/10/2023 13:55

Is it really hard to claim this? Sorry for ignorance

It has a reputation for being hard to get.

In order to qualify you have to show what you cannot do in the way of activities related to daily living (ie looking after yourself) or mobility. IMHO if you focus on the detail and read/address the guidance it's hard work but not impossible. Some of the barriers though, above which you get 'nul points',particularly in relation to reading/writing and making oneself understood are very low.

@Bromptotoo
Thank you. It was around 20 days ago I called up to ask for reconsideration. They received extra documents a couple of days ago and text yesterday to say that they have received it

@NotAscoob I didn't find it that hard, I did send lots of supportive documents but saying that I was awarded standard when I believe it should have been enhanced hence the appeal.

Started MR a month ago, they said they should look at it in the next 4 weeks. Hopefully it will be sooner than that.
I have standard mobility but wanted to challenge several inaccuracies in the report.
The most egregious was "claimant says they need support on unfamiliar journeys, but has a degree so this is unlikely". The degree was gained in 2000, 15 years before I became ill, and has no bearing on my current struggles with navigation.

itsallfunand · 11/10/2023 17:49

@InMySpareTime similar to mine, lots of inaccuracies regarding medication so I have sent everything to them again.
Please let me know how you get on and fingers crossed for you

@InMySpareTime

Hi, have you heard back yet?

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 23/10/2023 09:58

Heard back last week. No change in points so I've gone onto tribunal appeal.

itsallfunand · 23/10/2023 12:03

@InMySpareTime when did you ask for mandatory reconsideration? I asked 26.09.23 and not heard anything. Did they write to you

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 23/10/2023 12:11

11 Sept but did it by phone. Appeal tribunal is online which I find much easier and can add evidence/info in bits when I'm up to it.

InMySpareTime · 23/10/2023 12:12

Result was by letter last week.

TheShellBeach · 23/10/2023 12:17

I got my MR result after about a month, and it was in my favour.

Three years prior to that, I'd had to go all the way to a tribunal to get PIP originally.

Then it was reassessed and stopped, and that's why I asked for the MR.
I was surprised when they capitulated and gave me my PIP back. I'd thought that I would have to have another tribunal.

itsallfunand · 23/10/2023 13:24

@InMySpareTime hope you're successful at tribunal. I'll let you know my outcome when I receive it

@TheShellBeach did they call you prior to letting you know or did you just receive a letter telling you

It was by letter. I have never had any communications from the DWP other than by letter,

It always surprises me on these threads when I see that the DWP have texted or phoned claimants, because they've never done that for me.

LacyRuby · 27/10/2023 14:07

I've just asked for a MR and had a letter confirming my request. I sent evidence with my application form ie: Dr and hospital letters, diagnosis, repeat medication list etc etc. Will they want this evidence again for the MR as in the letter it said to send any more evidence in, but at the moment they have it all.
Thank you.

Starrrz · 14/05/2024 19:05

@LacyRuby did they tell u on the obone u got it ? I put through for MR in march. Had a call today from the lady making the decision, she said i only needed a couple of points and would give it to me . So im unsure? She asked a few questions then said are my bank details the same. She said ill get a letter in thw next 5-10 days. Not sure if i defo have it x

LacyRuby · 14/05/2024 20:37

It sounds hopeful. I did get awarded PIP in the end. I had a phone call asking about my bank details the same as on my very first application form, would I be able to manage a lump sum from back pay. It took about a fortnight to come through. Good luck and fingers crossed for you

Starrrz · 14/05/2024 20:50

@LacyRuby glad you got it :) hoping i get it! She seemed like she was gonna award it! The way she was talking! Did u get a letter first of the money? Or a text x

WhenWillTheSunShineIWonder · 14/05/2024 20:59

my family member put theirs in just after Christmas, got (positive) response 29th April, so four months.

LacyRuby · 14/05/2024 21:52

Hi Starrz. I got a letter from the Tribunal court saying that they had overruled DWP and I was entitled to PIP, both at standard rate. Then I got the phone call regarding the bank etc. The money came through about 2 - 3 weeks after the call. I can't remember exactly how long. It does sound really positive for you. I really hope you get it xx no

Starrrz · 14/05/2024 22:04

Oo wow thats good!
im glad you got it :)
thankyou! Really hope i have it xx

I’ve received confirmation of mandatory reconsideration form after being turned down for mobility. It took about 3 weeks to get confirmation of receipt by txt and then followed by letter.

I’d sent the test findings and report from the person who set up Dyscalculia UK, confirming they had no doubt that I have dyscalculia and how in my case it makes it impossible for me to use satnav, maps or directions. I gave a good description of how these aids don’t help, and in the case of satnav means I can’t read the road at the same time. I was turned down because they said nothing had been reported to DVLA and that I could provide a complex medical history and I am not treated for anxiety.

I avoid anxiety by not driving anywhere other than up to road to the shops and my GP/chemist. I know the road very well, I am confident doing that and not a danger to myself or other road users. Doing more than this would not be safe which is why I haven’t done it for over a decade. I don’t suffer with anxiety except on an unfamiliar journey which I avoid. I have no idea which side of the road to catch a bus apart from one route into and out of town. I’ve caught trains going in the wrong direction, got the wrong platform completely because I get so disoriented and no one I know would agree I can plan or go on an unfamiliar journey.

I have been advised to get a supporting letter from my GP so I’ve asked for an extention to get this sorted and sent, but what they can say, that this dyscalculia expert hasn’t said or explained, I have no clue. I’ve been getting the daily living standard rate for 2 years. Good luck.

NoOneFellOffTheirChair · 14/05/2024 22:32

You having a degree is beside the point imo. I was given standard rate daily living straight away despite the written report stating I ‘didn’t sound in pain’ and again, that I could relate a complex medical history. It was a phone assessment. How does an in pain person need to sound? Groan, moan etc? I was on morphine patches at the time and had recently had a steroid injection. They come to inexplicable conclusions sometimes.

InMySpareTime · 15/05/2024 05:49

@NoOneFellOffTheirChair they used the "didn't sound in pain" and "could relate complex medical history" on me. The second was oddest in my case as I only have two diagnoses and one of those is mild asthma. Not terribly complex.
Still waiting for a tribunal date as 2 points short on DL, but at least mobility got enough points for my blue badge.
