PIP mandatory reconsideration

Hi,

Just received a call from PIP today as I sent off my mandatory reconsideration on Tuesday (they received it on Wednesday).

The decision maker called to discuss my MR and that she will process it for me - is this normal as I'm really anxious. Why would she call just say she processed it?

Any guidance or help is appreciated

So - KEEP GOING! Decision has changed from zero DLA to higher rate for me. They are definitely deliberately saying no to people they know will be awarded when it comes to appeal. They stalled and got extensions about three times to respond to the appeal court but eventually rather than go to appeal changed their decision.

I don't understand why they would do this ? They still have to pay the money backdated?

I think they think people will give up

Also if you miss one of their deadlines, such as a month to put in an MR or appeal, you have to contest and appeal that too, in addition.

Or they struggle to put forward a coherent argument to the appeals about why not to award it and the appeals probably get fed up with that, and the additional cost of the appeal.

I'm alright for a few years now. Don't even want to think about the review stage till it comes around! Good luck with yours.

Guys has anyone had this before? Been awarded pip but they put less qualifying period which means no back pay?? I’ve never heard anything like this till today?

InMySpareTime · 13/12/2024 16:50

@Hi23 did you start a new claim instead of an appeal on the existing one?
Some people report a change of circumstances if their care or mobility needs have significantly changed since the initial claim, if that is triggered then the backpay is only as far as the change of circumstances not the initial claim.

Hi23 · 13/12/2024 17:52

@InMySpareTime sorry so here’s it in more detail hun my partner has been awarded high rate care and low rate motability he applied 16th sept and got awarded today but they said he’s not entitled to backpay as he’s not in the qualifying period but surely if that was the case he shouldn’t been awarded I don’t get it? This was a new claim? Should he have back pay?

Hi23 · 13/12/2024 17:53

@InMySpareTime also may I add this is a brand new claim never claimed before but had ongoing illness for long time

InMySpareTime · 13/12/2024 17:57

Qualifying period seems more like ESA than PIP, I know with PIP you should get backpay from September (that's actually a quick turnaround for a claim, mine was almost a year including MR and Tribunal).
Can you call the PIP helpline or contact Citizens advice for further clarification on your specific case?

oviraptor21 · 13/12/2024 18:03

The qualifying period on PIP usually refers to the three months before the date of claim and six months after.
I can't readily see how this applies to your DH's claim though. Agree with PP to call the PIP enquiry line or take your paperwork to Citizens Advice.

This was my thoughts I really don’t understand when he’s been awarded due to his problems that’s been on going for some years now…he was awarded enhanced rate daily living and low motability for 3 years award ending in 2028… the man who I spoke to today couldn’t really answer it himself if I’m honest…so do yous think he should be backdated? I think I need to call them again Monday and ask for more detail..it just doesn’t seem right to me I’ve never known this…could yous guys think why or know why it isn’t backdated so yous think they could be wrong? Also thank you for reply also may I ad he’s assessment he had a a cancellation? And now they have new people taking assessments on so pretty quick at the moment
