How much is your broadband?

I'm with virgin media and they are currently charging me £35 per month. My deal is ending next month and the renewal is £42 per month.

I phoned them and they offered to keep it at £35. However, they are cheeky fuckers as they are offering new customers the same deal for £26.50.

I'm thinking of moving to BT who offer faster broadband speeds for £30. I know that the price difference isn't huge, but the principle of it pisses me off.

Curious to know how much others are paying, and whether you move providers every time your contract ends, if anyone is willing to share.

I just tried that.

I'm currently paying £35 and my renewal deal is £42. I called them and they said that they could keep it at £35 for the renewal.

I pointed out that they are offering new customers £26.50 and that I could get a better deal by switching provider

Their response was, 'well you can keep changing providers, but then you will have all the hassle of changing provider every 18 months when your deal runs out'

Frankly, I think I would rather have the hassle of changing providers than be ripped off by virgin. I've been with them for 6 years and their service isn't particularly wonderful.

No, you didn’t try it.

You actually have to go through and say you want to be disconnected.

If you just call them they might knock a few quid off (this is the team you spoke to). But that team don’t have much discretion.

You actually have to say you want to leave and give your 30 days’ notice. Then in 72 hours the proper retentions team will call you and you can virtually name your price.

Honestly we have done that so often...... to no avail. We even have our mobiles with them 😡

You actually have to say you want to be disconnected and give your notice. Then the ‘real’ retentions team will call you with excellent discounts.

I pay £23 with Sky. I was paying more and they were to going to hike it at the end of the contract. I phoned them before the contract ended and they came up with a fairly poor offer. It was only when I got on to the cancellation team to actually cancel that they gave me a good deal.

For some reason their cancellation team seem to have access to better deals.

I suspect that this might happen with virgin, but it will be too late as I fed up with being dicked about.

I've already told them that I want the price that they are offering new customers, or I'm going elsewhere. I would have thought that it would be more cost effect for them to retain current customers that already have all the equipment, than to set up a line for a new customer, so I don't see why I should pay more than new customers.

Are you a single adult household? If so, just have your partner/husband sign up for when your contract ends. Virgin define their a new customer by name, rather than address. My partner and I alternate each year between who will be the account holder so we get the "new customer" deals.

I'm a single adult household.

They can offer me a new customer deal, or they can piss off. That's their choice 😂

@AutumnAnnie

Ok well I'll call their bluff in a couple of weeks time when I get into my 30 day cancellation period. If I don't get an amazing deal with cashback and vouchers included then I'm off!

£20 a month with EE. I've been with them for years. When they try to increase the price, I say I'm leaving - which I would if necessary.

hopeishere · 04/09/2023 18:25

I'm paying £70 with BT!!!!! I'm in NI and we can only access sky or BT where I live.

Charcol · 08/09/2023 12:01

£29 100mb fibre. with UW

shivawn · 08/09/2023 13:13

€67 a month with Virgin. My husband's job reimburses him for broadband since he works from home 3 days a week so we went for one of the more expensive packages.

pinkcandyj · 08/09/2023 13:17

£18.99 with Sky.

PinkRoses1245 · 08/09/2023 13:27

£30 BT, always been very reliable.

jkkdiehab · 08/09/2023 22:07

Freeeee because I have it free for 9 months. But then it goes up to £48. It's Sky's Ultrafast Plus so around 400mbps.

Iamnotanugget · 09/09/2023 07:22

£25 Vodafone. DH wfh so needs reliable connection. I know all companies have horror stories at poor service & customer but I wanted to mention that Talk Talk left us without service for a week over Christmas meaning we couldn't watch any streamed TV, kids couldn't game online with friends etc and as compensation they gave us £5!

GPTec1 · 09/09/2023 07:33

I worked in telecoms most of my life, would never use anyone but BT... whatever the the rules are, Openreach imho offer a better service to BT customers than they do to non BT customers.
We felled a tree across a line - OR fixed for free, damaged fibre cable into house whilst decorating - OR fixed for free.. within 18hrs... meanwhile i had a mobile mini hub to give some service.

I pay £33 per month for 1 GB internet, free unlimited calls and they gave me a £75 gift card, which i added to my billing account.

When contract expires, they hike the price, ring 150 with the lowest price from a competitor, ask whats the procedure to leave and negotiate!!!

peanutcrumble · 09/09/2023 07:38

£72 a month!! It was £40 and then about 6 months ago it just went up for no reason. I'm with virgin and they keep calling me up trying to sell me a good package for £85 😳 I don't even use the tv because I've changed rooms and the wire doesn't reach so I'm effectively paying £72 for broadband which is dog shit. My contract ends in December I'm dreading having to look for a new one and be without internet for a few days. The kids are gonna flip 😬

Barbiesback · 09/09/2023 07:40

£20 with VM. It was such a farce they wanted £45 and I actually left and a manager called me a couple of weeks later and apologised and sorted me the deal!

Bluesclues1 · 09/09/2023 07:45

£46 but that’s for ultrafast broadband and a TV package with Sky.

We used to be with virgin but the internet was awful.

missmollygreen · 09/09/2023 10:04

After playing the Virgin game im paying £17 for 100gb
