Anyone applied for PIP recently

And have any idea how long it's taken.

First time applying, started 3 weeks ago and had the text message to say it's been received by ATOS. No idea what happens next or how long to expect to wait.

Is it an ordinary claim, ie not under the Special Rules for terminal diagnosis?

pippa789 · 12/07/2023 11:43

Yes, an ordinary claim

Both my husband and I now receive PIP; completely different experiences though - I am deaf, and it took less than a week for me to be granted an award; my husband OTOH - he has ADHD and severe anxiety; he has just been awarded after going through every single process: he applied in January 2021; after being refused (even with over 100 pages of medical and psychiatric evidence), he went to mandatory reconsideration; we finally had a tribunal hearing last week where they found massively in his favour. 2 and a half years from application to award is not ideal though and shows there are serious issues with the system.

All I would say is be patient; you should hear soon if the application has now been received by ATOS - hopefully it goes through, but if not, get some advice about mandatory reconsideration and the whole process. It is definitely not for the faint hearted.

I got my form a couple of days ago, am just starting to fill it in slowly. It's annoying that they give you a month to fill it in but take 10 days of that sending it out. It would be so much easier if they could just email it or have an online system to upload information.

There is an online system, I have completed one for a work client recently. Not sure if you need to request it at the time of starting the claim though or may just have been a pilot but it is a lot easier and you can keep uploading stuff as you need to.

Also you can ask for an extension to the return date if you need to.

Yeah, applied end of April for kid, got award letter yesterday.

pippa789 · 12/07/2023 18:36

@InMySpareTime

I filled mine out on line - they asked when I called and I said I'd much prefer to do it on line.

@gamerchick that's quite quick. Did you have an appointment with them

I wasn't offered online as an option, that's annoying.

Silkierabbit · 16/07/2023 20:07

Applied in Jan, awarded in June for DS. Had to go to mandatory reconsideration as back amount was refused but one phone call and they admitted error and paid.

Silkierabbit · 16/07/2023 20:07

We did online but the default is post and we had to ask and person said nobody has ever asked me that before but so much easier.

CourtneyB123 · 16/07/2023 20:10

Not sure if this counts as recent, but I applied June 2021, face to face appointment Dec 2021, awarded Jan 2022 (mental health)

Nat6999 · 16/07/2023 20:33

Ds dp applied in March, had the telephone appointment in May & was turned down in June.

YomAsalYomBasal · 16/07/2023 20:36

Yes. Very straightforward claim, obviously highest rate of everything with kids of evidence. Still took 20 weeks.

Hello, I hope its okay to join. I applied for PIP for myself at the end of Feb, i had an assessment at the beginning of may over the phone and the n i got a letter at the beginning of June saying I wasn't going to be awarded anything. I requested my report and the assessor had down played/lied about what I can and can't do. I put in for a MR 4 weeks ago and still waiting for a decision.
Has anyone doen a MR recently and if so how long did it take for an answer? X

Lynzmumof21979 · 14/11/2023 11:59

Hi
Sorry for jumping on.

I am awaiting a decision...I applied 14th August.
Had a telephone assessment on October 24th, which was received by the DWP on 31st October.
I receives a copy of the assessment and it was exactley the same as what we discussed...which I was astounded at! I've read so many bad things about assessors.

Unfortunately I have severe anxiety...my anxiety gets anxiety and I'm panic stricken over a decision...the waiting is horrendous!

Has anyone got a timescale of how long it takes now?

Thank you x

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 14/11/2023 12:02

@Lynzmumof21979 4 months I believe so probably about February!

Lynzmumof21979 · 14/11/2023 12:14

Wow!! For a decision?? It says 8 weeks on the text...but the end to end says 13 weeks.

Cannot cope with February!

Hellenicnim · 15/11/2023 01:14

I applied in February and was given an online version of the form (I believe this is is being piloted and not everyone is offered it unless it's moved on since Feb.) I had a virtual assessment in March and was awarded in April. I also helped a friend with a form in January, they had a paper based assessment and were awarded in May.

I have a telephone assessment this week and it's beginning to add to my health issues. If anyone can offer support or tips on dealing with the process I would be so very grateful

Every assessment I have supported people with has been fine except for one. Just answer the questions honestly, if you need more time then ask for it. Half the battle to getting an award is providing good medical evidence to back up what you say in the assessment.

I don't really have any evidence. I've just been left to get on with it all. Do you know where I can get more supporting evidence please?
