Pip

Hi applied for pip forms but never sent them back by the date or filled them out . I've had a text from the assesment services saying they'll be doing my assesment . People have said they still go through the process. I'm just wondering has anyone had any succesfull claims having sent no evidence or filled in forms . I'm stressing about this now as I didn't have the motivation to do the forms due to my mental health .

Like you I didn't send my form back due to mental health issues and they contacted me and completed it over the phone, which although stressful was much easier for me. The lady completing the form was lovely and very patient and made sure she asked enough questions to be able to gather all the necessary information. I felt supported during the whole process and the claim was awarded.

DWP Guidance for those outfits providing the Assessments (para 1.1.7) states that, where the PIP 2 form about how your Health Condition Affects You is not returned and the claimant has been identified as having a mental or cognitive impairment, the claim will be referred directly to the AP for assessment.

I guess this is what has happened here and, as you say, they're still going through the process; you've been referred for an assessment by a DWP Health Care Professional.

HAve they given you a date etc for that to take place?

Thankyou, I hope I get a nice understanding person , I'm so anxious and haven't even got a date yet. I feel like they brush off when it comes to mental health. Did they do a backpay for you x

Yes money was backdated. Just to reassure you the questions were asked in a conversational way rather than a barrage of questions. They rang me to arrange a date for the assessment then confirmed it by letter and reminded me by text the day before. I was really worried and anxious before but really didn't need to be.

quietnightmare · 15/06/2023 19:15

If you have a mental or physical disability (which you do) then you have NOTHING to worry about. Mental health struggles are truly horrendous and all you need to do is answer any questions honestly. I hope you are awarded what you are entitled too and hope it makes your struggles a little easier

quietnightmare · 15/06/2023 19:16

Also I believe you can have someone with you for the 'assessment' which is essentially a chat. And this person with you can even speak on your behalf

Thankyou, I worry anyway about anything and everything . Was yours a face to face or telephone.

All done via the phone, couldn't have coped with face to face, especially if I had to go to a centre as I have severe agriphobia and have only managed to leave my building once since Dec 2021 and now can't leave my flat at all have even employed a cleaner to take my rubbish out as I was very very anxious having to do this.

I don't think I could cope with a face to face either , I have anxiety, and social anxiety. And avoid people wherever I can. Public transport is a big no , I did try public transport after not using it for 7 years but had a panic attack. :( but I tried . I just want to be OK and be me again and not worry but it's so hard and I don't no why .

Nor me I was a strong independent woman until 20 months ago, now constantly anxious and terrified (but don't know what of). Well done on trying to go out i hope it didn't leave you to traumatised. Unfortunately when I did manage to go out in October I was completely unsuccessful and it reinforced how bad being out in the big bad world is, now so bad that I even wake having panic attacks if I dream I am out. People tell me I should go out and invite me to places/things I used to enjoy not understanding how much anxiety and fear this causes and how much effort it takes just to get up each day and keep my home clean and tidy.
I forget how normal used to feel as normal is now just being constantly anxious but like you I long for those days again when having a bad day is being late for work not being unable to get out of bed or making drafts of goodbye letters.
I hope you are getting help and can enjoy life again one day.

Tomanyhandbags · 16/06/2023 00:12

Sorry didn't mean to make the last post all about me I was just (very clumsily) trying to say you are not alone and I do honestly understand how you feel.

KEMC23 · 18/07/2023 23:09

Hey just thought I would add on , I had a text last week and a letter about my assesment date . I have a telephone assesment tomorrow and I am so very nervous and anxious

OP posts:
allforyouul · 19/07/2023 06:12

@KEMC23 is it a telephone assessment and how long did you wait from receiving the text saying they are doing the assessment to appointment. Hope it all goes well

Lougle · 19/07/2023 06:51

I hope it goes well for you. Don't try to please the assessor. If they ask you about an activity and it's very hard because of your mental health, don't say 'yes I can but....' explain what you have to do to do it, how long it takes, and how you feel afterwards.

KEMC23 · 22/07/2023 12:04

It was very nerve racking, and overwhelming, I was so anxious I just wanted it to end , it last about 30 minuites and I got a message the next day from dwp saying they've revieved the written report of my assesment it's all been so quick .

Hi op, sorry I’m late to the thread and I hope you get to see this message.
like you, I requested a form and didn’t fill in out. I’ve done this 3 or 4 times and just couldn’t face it due to my MH ( I also have several physical conditions ) and I received a message to say that I would be having a pip assessment by phone. I decided to just give it a try. I was dreading it.

my assessment was supposed to last one hour approximately and ended up being 2 hours and 4 minutes. The assessor was absolutely lovely
to me and she put me at ease. I then received a message a few days later to say that the report had been received by the DWP.

bearing in mind my assessment was on Monday 10th July I received a phone call last Monday 24th July from the DWP but missed the call and the voicemail said I had been awarded pip and would receive a letter in the post.

i called the pip number and the automated service told me I would receive a payment of X amount on X date which I then worked out my entitlement from. It was clearly enhanced rate for both as I had calculated the different outcomes. Sure enough on Friday I received back payment from April-July and the letter detailing the outcome came the following day!

it was a huge shock for me to be awarded and so soon as you hear lots of horror stories about the process and I was fully prepared to to to MR and appeal if needed as I’ve suffered for far
too long. The pip will make such a huge difference to my life.

I would love to hear how you’ve got on.

hope this helps anyone who is unsure whether to go ahead with the assessment or not.

Zoflorabore · 01/08/2023 06:00

Sorry to add- the amount and date of my payment referenced on the automated line is for August. The back pay was 4 months worth of that approx.

upallnight76 · 01/08/2023 07:13

@Zoflorabore how long after applying did you have your assessment? I'm still waiting from June.

vickibee · 01/08/2023 07:20

Still wait in since February

upallnight76 · 01/08/2023 07:23

@vickibee have you had an assessment or called to chase? What area are you in, I think it can depend what area you live

vickibee · 01/08/2023 07:41

South Yorkshire
I have called a few Times but just get the same response . No decision
They did a paper based assessment for my son who is moving from dla

SunnieShine · 01/08/2023 07:44

Good luck with your PIP appeal. I know it's stressful but it's worth it. And remember to describe how you are on a bad day, not a better one. x
