What do you earn …

Sorry this is a nosey question … but I’d love to know what people earn! As it’s all anonymous I thought I could ask as it really interests me what different jobs earn.

this is partly as I wonder how so many people can afford new cars/holidays/big houses.

I’ll add mine … I earn 68k … but can’t afford a fancy car or holidays every year. I have my own house, but it’s not big. I also didn’t get any family help so bought on my own with no help for a deposit etc.

thanks! And hopefully the question doesn’t offend anyone!

£46K, aged 30 and I’m a project manager (ish type role). However as I live in a very low cost of living area with no kids (yet) we do pretty well as husband is on the same.

MostlyHappyMummy · 17/05/2023 08:05

@Bluelightbaby that's a disgrace

pintsizeprincess · 17/05/2023 09:23

Just under 12,000 , working 20 hours ( evenings and weekends around DH) , customer service Tesco. Also have a 2nd job in the day as lunchtime supervisor at a first school , 2.300 .

Persiana · 17/05/2023 10:18

£51k, full time, mix of WFH and office. One DC, husband, own home but need to upsize and can't face the mortgage required! Can afford holidays, nothing too fancy. Own old cars.

HerMammy · 17/05/2023 10:19

I'm self employed, have 2 employees and earn £50k, Scotland, 2DC at home, own home.
Have 3/4 holidays per year.

hopefulsquirrel · 17/05/2023 10:21

£52k, civil servant, full time, mix of WFH and office. Buying our first home now.

DH earns £24.5k from PAYE employment (plus usually a £2k Christmas bonus) and then part-time freelance takes him to about £35k.

twistyizzy · 17/05/2023 10:24

33K full time Manager for Training company but 100% wfh so the pay off for crap wage is flexibility. DH 120K Inc bonus FT approx 60 hours per week Big Pharma.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 17/05/2023 10:24

That's terrible @Bluelightbaby I don't know how my family alone would cope without your service 💙

I work 28 hours pw and am on £24k - draughtsperson in NE

Merrow · 17/05/2023 10:28

Civil service, £56k if I were full time but I'm on 0.8. DP in marketing on £46k full time but 0.9. Childcare is the big expense!

NC4tonight · 17/05/2023 10:28

£80k, full time senior management for private sector multinational. Hybrid role, very flexible employer. I'm single, mortgage, 2 kids, car. 2 hols a year.

Browsing2023 · 17/05/2023 10:36

I earn 25k a year as a civil servant. My husbands been sick a lot of his last years wage was 8k, atm he’s getting £400 a month SSP. So after my pension etc between us 2k a month.
We own our own home (mortgaged), car and go on holiday 2/3 times a year.
Answer is no kids and low mortgage.

Chocolatelabradorsarethebest · 17/05/2023 11:21

Head of HR equivalent (I head up a specialism, I'm not a generalist) in the private sector in London. Base £85k plus up to 25% bonus.

ukhgf · 17/05/2023 11:51

I earn same as you OP, DH earns about £35k. We have a pretty good quality of life; mortgaged 4 bed detached (got an interest free loan for the 5% deposit 5 years ago that's now paid off- a special scheme through DH's work, no parental help though), 2 cars (one nice, one not!), at least one foreign holiday a year, this year is Orlando. Debt is mortgage and one car on finance, but nothing else.

We live in a cheap area of the country though, 2 kids but no childcare costs. Commuting costs pretty low too, about £150 a month between the both of us. Oh and excellent public sector pensions so don't have to worry about overpaying into those areas.

My FTE salary is around £55k but I work part time so it’s around £44k. Husband is on around £35k. 3 DC. Yorkshire. Bought our house with no help. Have a big (to us) mortgage and loads of years left on it. No family childcare help. No benefits or other help other than child benefit. One holiday a year is a stretch for us. No fancy cars but also no car finance on the two cars we do have. There doesn’t seem to be much spare money these days. We were more comfortable before but DC3 and a house move and the COL crisis has left us a lot poorer and unable to save.

Apart from 2 kids not 3 and living elsewhere in England but not SE/London we have the exact same set up and lifestyle as you.

littlemousebigcheese · 17/05/2023 12:05

Husband works in finance and earns 130,000 a year, I'm a SAHM but occasionally tutor so earn a few thousand a year. Life is lovely really, we go camping a lot and to Center Parcs style places. One of our dc has SEN which is challenging and means I can't really work unless it's during school hours.

Nap1983 · 17/05/2023 12:11

I’m a nurse £32k ish. Fortunately I’m not the main earner. We live a pretty comfortable life, not much left on mortgage and wasn’t massive to start with. In scotland

It all feels a bit rubbish. We are working a lot of hours in jobs with decent-sounding salaries but we can’t afford to do much!

Seasonofthewitch83 · 17/05/2023 12:14

I earn 42K a year as an EA, in the music industry in the SE. Nursery fees are 18K a year so money is tight. We rent and have no family support. I earn more than DH.

I am retraining into HR.

Screwedupworld · 17/05/2023 12:16

After bonus probs around 40-41k in finance. Partner on around 50k in IT.

GnomeDePlume · 17/05/2023 12:29

£80k, I'm an accountant, theoretically London based but mainly WFH.

Mid 50s, DCs are all adults and we are coming to the end of Bank of Mum and Dad. Hoping to get the mortgage paid off in about 3/4 years time.

My salary went up significantly (increased by about 50%) after a job move 18 months ago. We still haven't got used to it and feel like it could all change tomorrow.

I would say we are pretty comfortable now after many lean years.

cocksstrideintheevening · 17/05/2023 12:42

71.2 plus sometimes a bonus but they've been few and far between in recent years.

2 kids, zone 4 London.

DH is a teacher on 50ish.

Nice standard of living but house is too small, Dts share a room and we are going to have to move as they get older and need more personal space. Our location at the moment is perfect though and we can't afford to upsize here.

One car, a very boring zafira. We do go on holiday, a couple of weeks abroad in the summer and a few nights uk in May and October half terms. Certainly don't have an extravagant lifestyle.

IVFNewbie · 17/05/2023 12:46

Last year I earned £235k. I work in technology sales. This year is likely to be a bit less. Year before was £190k. It varies year on year depending on how well I exceed my targets. Still pretty skint though.

overitunderit · 17/05/2023 13:11

64k for 4 days so full
Time would be 80k. Solicitor. I have two DC. Husband also a solicitor but earns £140k! We have a decent mortgage over 2k and two children in nursery. We never have anything left at the end of the month and aren't even managing to save at the moment. We don't have any car costs. Life is expensive at the moment. I do know we are very privileged though.
