How much do you spend a week on food, and for how many people?

Shop at Ocado and spend £110 per week for 2 adults and 1 teenager. Includes cleaning & personal care plus all we need for breakfast/lunch/dinner and I rarely have to top up mid week (unless for extra wine!) we get a mix of Ocado and M&S brands with occasional big name items (ketchup / beans)
we used to spend £85 last year before costs went up.

@Oddbobbyboo
i never actually believed that happened but there you are! Well done

Churchillian · 13/03/2023 21:55

Around £90 - £120 a week, 2 adults, 2 children and 2 cats. This is buying mostly organic as well. I spend another £30 a week on an organic veg box, eggs and bread from a local farm and around £15 with the milkman. I hate going to the supermarket so it suits me fine and I like the range and quality offered. We meal plan and don’t eat lots of meat or drink lots of booze, and this covers lunches at home for us too - the kids have school dinners.

Softdough · 13/03/2023 21:56

2 adults 1 pre teen my Ocado shop this week was £80. Previously used tesco and found it repetitive and lots of stuff not available. I find Ocado cheaper if I'm honest!

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 13/03/2023 22:01

about 150 pw, includes cleaning supplies etc. 2 adults

Crikeyalmighty · 13/03/2023 22:07

About £95 a week in M&S for 2 of us but that includes a couple of bottles of decent wine and we eat really well and I'm having to eat gluten free . That includes all fruit and veg too

Sisisimone · 13/03/2023 22:42

About £130 a week for 3 of us. That includes alcohol and cleaning products. Worth a bit extra to get a shopping delivery thats bagged and with very few substitutions or missing items ever.

Dandelionsinthegarden · 13/03/2023 22:59

£51 this week for 1 adult and 1 DC. I have recently switched to ocado, they actually do great deals and the quality is so much better, customer service excellent. I meal plan so know exactly what I need, and that shop has left me enough leftovers to freeze for me and DC with the deals they had on meat & veg

Trustfallbaby · 13/03/2023 23:12

2 adults 2 kids £110 on average. I do top ups else where though.

SockQueen · 13/03/2023 23:16

My weekly shop is about £110-120 for 2 adults, 2 kids (6&3). But tbh I'm not fantastic at meal planning and often do the order in a rush so end up doing at least one top up shop and have a takeaway/lunch in a cafe at least once a week, so our actual food spend is more than that.

The Ocado Xmas orders now have to be cancelled more than 14 days before the Xmas delivery date, otherwise you are still charged the £9-99 delivery charge. They introduced that 2 years ago. Everyone pays the same delivery charge at Xmas, even if you have a delivery pass.

Theyve sent me a voucher for the delivery charge for the past few Christmases and you can amend until about 48 hours before.

I spend about £200/£250 a week for two adults, two children.

PegasusReturns · 13/03/2023 23:30

About £300 per week.

i tend to do all the main meal shopping there plus fruit and veg and then get “basics”: bagels, cream cheese, squash, pasta, tins etc from Sainsbury’s

4 pre teen to young adult DC who all eat an astonishing amount.

PriamFarrl · 13/03/2023 23:39

we average about £70 for two adults. But that is pretty much just food, no toiletries/cleaning products/laundry. Also, we don’t eat meat and only occasionally have a ready meal.

SouperWoman · 13/03/2023 23:50

I’ve stuck with Ocado since they were so brilliant during lockdown. And because Tescos always have missing items or substitutes. Ocado are reliable and I can get everything in one shop. We are 3 adults and one older teen. A week’s shopping at Ocado covering everything we need, including packed lunch stuff, booze, toiletries and cleaning stuff, is £100-180 per week. I do miss the Waitrose stuff though.

arghtriffid · 14/03/2023 00:00

I shop at M&S for weekly shop and as PPs mention if you shop deals etc it isn't that much more as none of the fruit and veg goes moldy. I think sainsbos and tescos cost more imo.

Nottogetapenny · 14/03/2023 00:02

I have a Ocado delivery every week, on average I spend around £65/£70 a week for 2 adults and that’s for food/ cleaning.

Lamelie · 14/03/2023 00:03

3 adults. Around £100
Normally one £12 crate of beer
Includes cleaning products, rarely anything not plant based- eggs butter and salmon some weeks.
£10 on bread ☺️ And quite a few treats.
We eat out/ takeaway a couple of times a week.
They rarely substitute and don’t take payment until delivered. I’ve never had a problem getting a slot, I often get a very late one as I know I’ll be at home. Rarely pay for delivery either.

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 14/03/2023 16:15

2 adults 120 incl alcohol. Most if fresh stuff.
I actually found them better value than asda. Some things are cheaper or same price but the veg at leasts lasts and if not (2x) refunds are swiftly dealt with.
We do buy bits elsewhere as well but that's purely just because we shop in foreign shops and halal butcher for some bits, but mince etc comes from ocado.

stopbeeping · 14/03/2023 16:24

I used to spend about £300
Then I went to Asda from Ocado and I spent about £200

Now I am using Ocado again around £200 pw

bangwhistle · 14/03/2023 19:36

I shave shopped with Ocado for a decade but the last six months the shop has been roughly £140 for two adults and three primary aged kids. I've tried to spoilt my shop with Aldi and I have done direct cost comparisons and have to say, Aldi is often the same price as Aldj and I I don't save very much at all but shopping at Aldi and lose the convenience of having it all delivered. The Ocado essentials stuff is generally pretty good value. The shop I did last week would have cost more at Tesco apparently. I'd say it's worth trying, especially if you can get a £25 off your first shop kind of thing.

@NoMoneyForEducation that's such a good idea!
Are the two deliveries free?

BHRK · 14/03/2023 19:56

2 adults, 3 kids £200-£250 a week

I have a delivery pass, so yes. Just have to spend £40...and if there isn't enough to hit that amount I will chuck in some toothpaste/loo roll/dishwasher tablets.

Occasionally if I want to save a bit and fridge stock is OK I may skip a Tuesday order...the Friday order is then closer to £100...so it may not save much...but it is a bit of a tightening of the belt mentally if not in reality. Also I use Monzo pots with a weekly amount in it...so again, skipping the odd order can help if spending generally getting closer to/will go over the weekly amount.

quirkyquerty · 14/03/2023 20:04

Wow I am surprised at the costs of these shops- we don't tend to drink at home so don't have alcohol costs, but I used Ocado and spend £70-80 a week for two adults and two young children, including packed lunches for dc

recklessgran · 15/03/2023 15:36

Around £200, not including alcohol or cleaning stuff - two adults with 6 adult children dropping in and out at various times. Reckon for comparison I'd estimate the equivalent of 3 adults full time? This isn't an area of budgeting I'm willing to economise on though to be fair so we just buy whatever we fancy.
