E.on Next - gone from £250 in credit to £2300 in debit?!

This surely can not be possible?

We have gas and electric with E.on Next. It’s always in credit, it was over £200 in credit the last time I had checked.

We got asked for meter readings which we gave - it said they were high for what was expected but they were correct so we submitted them.

I have just checked my account and it’s now £2,300 in debit!!!

We have lived here for 2 years and obviously this was nowhere near what we paid last year - it’s just the 2 of us living here and I didn’t put the heating on until late November / early December!

I do work from home most days but even so - surely it cannot be this high?

I’m going to call them first thing in the morning, but has anyone else had a similar situation?

Take some pictures of the readings before your call tomorrow. You can then send them the pics

Eon is having a minor glitch! Won't display any usage or meter readings and I'm currently £700 I'm Credit
2 weeks ago it was 350, so not sure how they got to that figure??

ladymacbeth · 07/02/2023 20:59

Elsiebear90 · 07/02/2023 20:43

£62 is incredibly low, there’s only two of us living in our house, we are out 11 hours a day five days a week, leave the heating on 14C all night and day, turning up to 18C for a few hours in the evening and weekend and are using £360 a month.

How?! I'm paying £70 a month and my heating is either at 14 when I'm only in evenings or up to 21 when I'm around all day

Ive just logged on and mine is working ok.
Hopefully it is a glitch for you though OP!

justusandmoo · 07/02/2023 21:00

Exactly the same happened to us. It's just crazy. They said that we had been paying monthly but the money hadn't actually been applied to the account. It was just held. When they applied it they found that it wasn't enough to cover the balance.

I had a very uncomfortable conversation with them over it 😡. It's just terrible that they can do it. Being fixed makes no difference to the monthly payment.

ladymacbeth · 07/02/2023 21:01

Mrsmozza123 · 07/02/2023 20:35

Are you on an old fixed rate?

No, just a standard variable with EDF. Have a tumble drier too!

CriticalAlert · 07/02/2023 21:02

It could be correct. Prices have increased massively. Check your eon account to see usage. Get eon to install a smart meter. You'll see how much money you're spending. It's all going to increase again in April. I don't know what I'm going to do!! But Shell and BP have made billions in profits. Lovely world isn't it?

Eumie · 07/02/2023 21:02

I’m with eon next, and I forgot to do some meter readings for the last few months.

I logged in to a £350 debit the other day. I live in a 4 bed detached with my OH and a baby. So I think there could be an error as that seems very high!

ladymacbeth · 07/02/2023 21:03

Something really off with your electric there OP. In the last 9 months your usage has gone up 10fold. Have you changed anything?

wandkands · 07/02/2023 21:03

I'm guessing that is the estimated readings being way off.

I think that’s due to the earlier readings being estimated.

boonboon · 07/02/2023 21:04

Sorry - ignore this. Here are the manual readings. There are some estimated in between.

Electricity:

17/11/20: 2136
09/12/21: 5136
01/04/22: 5580
02/01/23: 12567
18/01/23: 13372

Gas:

18/11/21: 26406
09/12/21: 26474
01/04/22: 26726
02/01/23: 27488
18/01/23: 27570

So in just over a year from 2020 to 2021 you used 3000 units of electricity.

In 9 months from April 22 to January 23 you used around 7000 units that's a massive increase in usage. Combined with the large increase in cost per unit I'm not surprised you're £2500 in debit.

SnoozyVanWinkle · 07/02/2023 21:05

Gas and electric for £62 a month. Your standing charges would be half of that.

Ablenicecat · 07/02/2023 21:05

Any chance you may have read someone else's meter?

WaddleAway · 07/02/2023 21:07

Your usage is fairly high, and obviously your unit price will be far far higher than it was last year.

Itisbetter · 07/02/2023 21:07

The easiest way to read an awkwardly placed meter is to take a photo with your phone.

FLA92 · 07/02/2023 21:07

How are we using so much, I don’t get it?

I work from home most days on a computer… but I have been working from home most days since moving in, in November 2020 so nothings changed there.

I genuinely can’t think of anything that’s changed.

£62 is NOT that low. If you're sensible and live alone/no kids it's doable. My dual bills are only £70 a month with accurate readings

Are you on an old fixed rate?
I'm really on top of my gas and electric and still it's about
£2.20 electric daily
£3 gas

Which is £150pm. Obviously take off the £66 at the minute but I can't get it any lower!
Heating is never on above 18c

FLA92 · 07/02/2023 21:08

We live underneath a large house (although only 1 person lives in it!). I’m wondering whether we took her readings instead although I’m sure we didn’t.

The op said those are the manual ones though doesn’t she? I’m reading it as though the estimated ones are in between the 5 that she’s given.

I’m not sure… I don’t think they can all be manual as that means she submitted a manual reading a couple of weeks ago, but she says she hasn’t submitted one for months.
