Should I tell my kids

I’ve recently come into a lot of money, quite unexpectedly. I’m from a working class background and I’d like my kids to understand the value of money via having to earn it themselves. They are aged 11 and 16. My first thought is not to tell them about the money, but is this, as my husband has hinted, an abusive thing to do, as they are bound to find out, and realise I’ve lied to them. Should I tell them, or not?

They are children, they have no need to know the details of your finances that don't concern them right now. Also I'd be slow to tell them as in they may not keep the info to themselves! I know children admittedly a little younger than yours that keep blabbing about how much is in their savings accounts, obviously it is money invested for them rather than their pocket money savings but hardly something I'd want them saying to all and sundry.
