Why do people spend on credit cards and pay off in full?

Just read a thread where someone mentioned this in passing and I wondered why you'd do all your spending on a CC that gets paid off every month?

Normally it’s to get points, airmiles or cash back.

I also get really good insurance if I lose something I buy or it’s stolen.

I think most people I know manage money this way

upfucked · 25/11/2022 15:52

Additional financial protection for holidays
Additional protection against fraud for online shopping
Work expenses which will be reimbursed
Loyalty schemes

NewNameNov · 25/11/2022 15:52

Financial protection. I won't buy anything big on debit.

Also - vouchers.

upfucked · 25/11/2022 15:52

Oh and when buying multiple items of clothing knowing I will be turning a few

Hoppinggreen · 25/11/2022 15:52

Protection from fraud, to collect points

FlyingFlamingo · 25/11/2022 15:53

We buy all of our joint/household purchases on one and then split the bill, it’s easier than guessing how much to put in a joint account

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 25/11/2022 15:53

Tesco points.. you can spread the cost of something if you need to, or not! Options...

hotelpink · 25/11/2022 15:53

People often do it to create a payment on their credit record.

Sunseed · 25/11/2022 15:53

It helps with cashflow too.

Bumzoo · 25/11/2022 15:54

Tesco points. We have so many of them.

AriettyHomily · 25/11/2022 15:54

Avios

lbzbean · 25/11/2022 15:54

Cashback and the process of categorising all my spending every month.

Derbee · 25/11/2022 15:55

Why would you not? Better purchasing protection, 1.5% cashback on spends, Clubcard vouchers/air miles to use throughout the year

Teenagekicksmyass · 25/11/2022 15:55

I get a lot of cash back if I use my credit card. I typically make around £100 a year so I always use it. I know how much I can spend on it without it getting out of hand and I always pay it off in full.
And as other posters have said, extra protection for purchases too.

NoSquirrels · 25/11/2022 15:56

Cashback, primarily.

Keeping the joint account off bounds for joint spending as a secondary reason.

InconvenientPeg · 25/11/2022 15:56

Points, financial protection, if we've got a big spend going out, even on rubbish interest rates it was a few pence that stayed in my account with the extra 30-60 days of interest. Plus I have a large credit line available to me, if I do need to buy something unexpected.

Sgtmajormummy · 25/11/2022 15:56

To get between 45 and 15 days free money.
To build a pain-free credit history for a future loan.
To get insurance on what you purchase.
To shop online.
To book and guarantee car hire.
To avoid carrying cash for large purchases or late at night (eg. Petrol stations).
etc.

Brendabigbaps · 25/11/2022 15:56

All of the above

Amazongirl9 · 25/11/2022 15:56

Protection and rewards. It's also good for your credit score. DS2 got one purely for that reason. He how has great credit history.

oldtableleg · 25/11/2022 15:56

purchase protection, cash back & paying for anything that’s likely to be returned (clothes multiple sizes etc). All advantages.

Lcb123 · 25/11/2022 15:57

Cash back, protection for big purchases, when I’m going to likely return stuff. Also improved your credit rating if you pay in full

Geneticsbunny · 25/11/2022 15:57

It improves your credit rating?

ShandaLear · 25/11/2022 15:58

I get cash back on mine. In the two years I’ve had it I’ve got nearly £500 back. I put absolutely everything on it and pay it off in full at the end of the month.

butterfliedtwo · 25/11/2022 15:58

Fraud protection.

LemonLimeWater · 25/11/2022 15:59

Cash back, points. I use mine for everything so it really adds up.
