When I think about what happened when a friend became botted …
she posted non stop on FB about how wonderful her life was - completely out of character. So I tried to ask her some v gentle questions about the ‘business’ and how it works -not publicly, by DM- she came back with something she’d cut and pasted (poor grammar so I knew it wasn’t her) all about how the only people who were negative about MLMs had failed at it and her upline was amazing, there were doctors and teachers and a minister in the team etc (her upline was Homeschool)
I didn’t give up - I said great, I hope it works out for you but I’ve been reading some interesting things about the business model and gave her a couple of links
She then blocked me on FB which really really shocked me as it was entirely out of character
I suspect she was told to do this by her upline (she’d obviously gone to her for advice and received the message she cut and pasted)
that’s what led me to these threads
my point is -this friend was either recruiting friends and family or blocking those who questioned Forever Living - so she ended up surrounded by the cult members
she made no money at all by the way and when we eventually reconnected a few years later on Insta I asked (v carefully) if she was still selling aloe Vera and she replied that her business had taken a back seat as she was so busy at work but she would pick it up again soon as she loved the products etc
This is someone who had intended to leave their JOB (sack the boss - remember that?) and get a full time income from FL and was claiming she’d be ‘retiring’ her husband too
she was unable to admit it had been a con and is one of the many many bots who have just quietly gone inactive, and who have put money into FL rather than made any
