Universal credit migration

40Jem · 19/05/2022 17:49

Has anyone actually had a letter about their tax credits ending and having to apply for universal credit? It's horrible not knowing when to expect the letter. I thought we would have until 2024 before needing to worry but now I've read that it's started up again and they want it completed by 2024.

Yes very annoying! Although if labour win a feral election I doubt they would get rid of it

LakieLady · 19/05/2022 18:24

Welfare rights organisations are somewhat sceptical about the likelihood of managed migration being completed in 2 years.

We got a circular at work explaining in a bit more detail how they're going to do it. I'll try and remember to dig it out when I'm back next week.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/05/2022 18:26

I read only 500 are being transferred this year. There was a letter saying tax credits are ending by 2024 in our renewal which came this week. I'm worried about it also.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/05/2022 18:27

Anyway they are doing the renewal for the next year (tax credits) so not for us, this year at least.

40Jem · 19/05/2022 18:41

@Orangesandlemons77 do you think if we've had the renewal through then they won't move us this year? I thought the letter could come through at any time? Actually when my renewal pack arrived (brown envelope marked DWP) , I panicked as I thought it was the dreaded letter already!

I think it should be Ok for this year based on them only moving 500 which is a small proportion of claims.

I know what you mean about the letter.

Babyroobs · 19/05/2022 19:49

I don't understand why people are worried about moving over. If you will be worse off on Uc then your money will be topped up. It's a much easier system.

katcatkat · 19/05/2022 19:51

We have had ours ended but we are in the group where we are no longer eligible so they have just cancelled our claim.

ponkydonkey · 19/05/2022 19:57

I won't get a penny on uc as I have savings...

GreenClock · 19/05/2022 19:59

Do you expect to be worse off OP? You will have three months’ notice when the letter arrives I believe, then transitional protection for 12 months I think. So, 15 months’ breathing space. And you probably won’t receive a letter in 2022 if they’re only migrating 500 households this year.

Hopefully someone from DWP or one of the relevant charities will be along soon to give you some informed advice.

BDeyes · 19/05/2022 20:05

I am so so worried about this migration as under UC rules I won't be entitled to a penny I currently only receive child tax credit for my 2 dc. I receive over £450 per month so it's a massive amount to loose especially with this rising cost of living. I am so worried about it.

Summerunlover · 19/05/2022 20:12

I migrated from ESA as my partner moved in.

total joke it’s lie they have not read any of my application and have just been forgotten about no money since the 1st of feb. Constantly calling them. I was told I would be protected with migration nope

40Jem · 19/05/2022 20:22

@ponkydonkey is that due to savings?

OP posts:
40Jem · 19/05/2022 20:23

@BDeyes I think we are in the same situation!

Are you for real?

ponkydonkey · 19/05/2022 20:28

If you have over 16k in savings you don't qualify for a penny

Currently get £530 pm from working tax credits 😱 judging by my last gas and elec bill that will be sorely missed

Seasidemumma77 · 19/05/2022 20:28

I chose to move from TC to UC in February. Transition was fairly smooth. I feel a lot less stressed on UC, as amount I receive is calculated each moth rather stressing with TC that at end of the year I'll owe money.

Of course you shouldn’t, my are you for real is the fact you seem to think you are entitled to anything with 16k plus in the bank. When the vast majority of households have ZERO savings and are not entitled to thing

BDeyes · 19/05/2022 20:35

yes mine is due to savings in a cash isa from years ago. And it's not as simple as just simply spending it on frivolous things as they are aware people do that to so want to see every bloody recipt and proof of where the money has gone incase you've just withdrawn it cash and hidden it under the bed lol. I am unable to work at present as I'm a carer for a parent with dementia and mobility issues. I receive £62 carers allowance per week so me and the kids will have to live on that and my isa savings which I've got no idea how to access to be honest. I was hoping I'd be able to set my kids up with driving lessons etc and help them with there first second hand cars but doesn't look likely now.

Babyroobs · 19/05/2022 20:51

I think if you have savings over 16k there's some kind of idea that they will disregard it for 12 months. It's currently a very unfair system that allows some people to still claim with large amounts of savings and others can't. I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed savings but it needs to level up and be the same rule for all.

Well, then use them? How do you think the rest of us who don't get any benefits manage? We can't afford to save

MayorDusty · 19/05/2022 21:07

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 500 client trial had finished so they were pushing ahead with the migration.
It was either on the radio or MSE that the trial threw up several issues but they were going ahead anyway because they'd delayed it already due to covid.

Orangesandlemons77 · 19/05/2022 21:21

If you google the thread title and the Guardian there is an article from a few days ago saying a few hundred this year... I am worried because of self employment (DH) and how this will work month to month..also about interviews and needing them (am on ESA and PIP) although it looks like might be better off on it overall. I guess I just don't trust them as know what they are like with them (DWP)
