Money left after bills

Me and my husband sat down tonight to go through our bills

Our outgoings are

Mortgage
Car service plan
Utility bills
Petrol
Phones
Insurance (we’ve got everything insured including good life insurance)
Pension
Tv subscriptions
Kids clubs (swimming club and brownies)
Christmas savings

We’ve got about £650 left. This goes on things like Birthdays, clothes, haircuts, holidays etc…

We have no debt except the mortgage- no
Loans or credit cards

My husband said it doesn’t seem a lot left. I disagree and think this is fine

My question is rather nosey but it’s not the sort of question I could ask people I know.

What id like to know is what do you have left to play with after your bills have come out?

I know it’s probably bad taste - but I just want some perspective

After we’ve paid all bills, bought food for us and dog, fuel for vehicles, saved money into pots for annual expenses such as insurances, car maintenance /tax, dog expenses and such. About £3k left over. A good 2/3 are saved minimum at the outset of the month so we don’t have a large disposable available to just spend willy nilly (as a result of my stupid financial behaviours in my 20’s I know that I am more than capable of pissing my money up the wall).

Whilst 650 sounds good it isn't much overall. I have twins who both went to a birthday party so 20 quid, snack and drink at cafe before a club 15 quid, one child went up a size so need new school shoes, indoor shoes, wellies and football boots easily a hundred pounds and that's a a weeks worth of discretionary spending gone. I think I have slighly less than you c£500 a month and it does feel like I struggle to keep up. Dreading price rises in April.

For many years we managed with about 150 a month left over after everything paid out! Life was grim at times.
Now we have about £300 a month left over, but we save £600 a month, pay ourselves £250 each personal spending money each month and spend £500 in total on car leases. Children are adults and we have no mortgage.

About 3.5k.

We save most of it.

Is that before or after food OP? I think that makes a big difference. Also I’d could savings as a ‘bill’ if you can just to have an emergency pot if needed
