Do you regularly give to charity?

And if so, which charity(s) do you support?

When I had my dd I gave a small amount regularly to a children’s charity. I have kind of got out of the habit of it and feel I probably should?

Depends how you define regularly but yes I try to do something at least every other month. A friend's fundraiser, a random donation to the Trussell Trust, Madlug etc. I'm not in a brilliant financial position so I don't do things like set up direct debits, I just do it when I have the money.

audweb · 29/09/2021 21:51

Yes. I have small donations set up to trussell trust guide dogs and whale conservation society. I never used to but now am in a permanent post it made sense to organise donations.

SisforSoppy · 29/09/2021 21:52

Yes. Have donated to world vision on direct debit monthly for over 29 years. Also care for the family, and a couple of others that I can’t remember right now. It’s all dd.

Spinxsta · 29/09/2021 21:54

Monthly DDs to:
WWF
RNLI
MacMillan

Only ÂŁ5 each.

akissbeforebed · 29/09/2021 21:55

Yes, monthly to NSPCC, RNLI and a local hospice.

Comedycook · 29/09/2021 21:56

No... genuinely wouldn't occur to me to regularly donate to a charity

PermanentTemporary · 29/09/2021 21:57

Regular donations to Trussell Trust and a small local charity. Christmas donation to Crisis.

I do charity shops and sponsor some friends, and I have a charity nominated on easyfundraising that I buy some big items through.

Not much, really. I used to volunteer my time much more but these days I only do a very occasional sponsored event.

Kljnmw3459 · 29/09/2021 21:58

No.

ShaneTheThird · 29/09/2021 21:59

I just cancelled my monthly WWF direct debit as I can't afford it at the moment but will take it up again when I can. I try do small things like superdrug ask if you want to pay to donate toiletries to food banks and refuges which I always say yes. Now Tesco asks if you want to donate.

tunainatin · 29/09/2021 21:59

A combination of the above. Interpal and local refugee charity on dd, and others as and when. If I've got a bit saved sometimes a larger donation to a specific person or family in need.

Gazelda · 29/09/2021 21:59

Small monthly DDs to RNLI, British legion, Macmillan.
Other irregular donations to local appeals, friends' fundraising events, LendWithCare (invest in overseas entrepreneurs who repay the loan which I can re-invest in further projects).

Snowdropsandbluebells · 29/09/2021 22:00

Not a regular direct debit but I have wide circle of contacts (work etc) and I try to donate 20 quid when I can to their fundraisers (most recently a lovely local person's funeral expenses) she passed away suddenly.

likeacandleinthewind · 29/09/2021 22:02

No.

fourquenelles · 29/09/2021 22:03

Monthly direct debits to the rescue I adopt my dogs from and to my local volunteer run theatre

OrangeTortoise · 29/09/2021 22:03

At the moment, the local air ambulance. I change it from time to time.

Also, I'm generous when my friends ask for sponsorship for running marathons etc, and I budget to do this. I see it as a win/win - I'm helping a friend as well as supporting a charity.

ZenNudist · 29/09/2021 22:05

Yes I use give as you earn through my work. Gift aid high rate tax. I give to the local Catholic charity Caritas which helps local people in poverty, CAFOD which is Catholic Agency for Overseas Development for people worldwide in trouble smaller donation to my church and a Manchester homeless shelter as homelessness is my preferred cause.

I also donate to the church charity collections weekly.

Egghead68 · 29/09/2021 22:05

Yes regular to Macmillan plus sponsorships etc.

Newchallenge · 29/09/2021 22:06

Yes. It seems like whenever I stretch the budget to give to charity, somehow it always works out.

rocksteadyfreddy · 29/09/2021 22:08

I don't give money but I always buy a few more bits and put them in the collection point in the supermarket for the food bank.

Billandben444 · 29/09/2021 22:08

No but now I'm retired I donate my time in a charity shop

BigMamaBigBaby · 29/09/2021 22:08

Monthly DDs to Action Aid, our local hospice where FIL died, and our church. ÂŁ10 each. Plus I always donate when friends do runs, shaves, triathlons, etc. which probably come to ÂŁ100 per year.

OverByYer · 29/09/2021 22:09

I sponsor a child through Plan International
Monthly Dd to Air ambulance
And give ÂŁ10 here and there to peoples just giving pages

Dailywalk · 29/09/2021 22:10

Thanks for all these responses. Really interesting and also making me feel a little guilty too!

We are on our 3rd sponsored guide dog puppy - it’s great when you get the letter that they have qualified and matched with someone.
We are also sponsoring our second child with Plan UK. He lives in Cameroon and DS writes to him regularly.
Cats Protection as and when - plus we have had 3 emergency fosters in the last 2 years who are still with us.
Monthly Direct Debit for the Church we attend.
As we do these I feel quite happy to refuse anything else that people want me to do.

Theflying19 · 29/09/2021 22:10

Yes.
A cancer one, a homeless charity and one for children. Monthly dds.
