Can’t cancel child maintenance

PumpkinKlNG · 27/07/2021 11:37

I’ve tried to cancel my child maintenance since may but they still keep sending me payments, I’ve called twice since yet they say they will close it but I still keep getting payments, I got another text today. How do I cancel it?

I think if they won't listen to you the the person sending the CM over will have to cancel their direct debit.

PumpkinKlNG · 27/07/2021 11:47

It’s collect and pay so it’s taken straight off them, I’ve been on hold back with cms again now for 40 minutes

Why do you want to cancel it? I guess you could close your bank account.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 27/07/2021 11:58

Let the person paying worry about it. Meanwhile, keep the money in a separate account in case you have to pay it back. Honestly, once i'd made the first initial phone call I wouldn't bother doing anything else. The phone calls are recorded so you've got plenty of evidence to back up that you tried to cancel it.

Thats excellent advice.
TeachesOfPeaches · 27/07/2021 12:27

Can you call the bank and get the payments blocked ?

PumpkinKlNG · 27/07/2021 12:31

No payments can’t be blocked, tried that

@PumpkinKlNG why do you want to cancel? If it's due to DC 18 & finishing FT education, CMS is payable until the end of August

PumpkinKlNG · 27/07/2021 23:36

No I just don’t want to claim it anymore. I got through to them in the end and they are finding out what the issue is and are going to get back to me in a couple of days, never thought it would be so hard to close!

Its for your child. Are you really sure?

PumpkinKlNG · 28/07/2021 01:19

It’s £7 We can live without it, it makes no difference what so ever

If you don't need it, save it for when you're child is older. It can go towards the endless costs an older teenager/young adult will face - driving lessons, university costs, new home set up, etc etc.

£7 a month is a disgrace but £84.00 a year that is never spent will eventually add up. I certainly wouldn't be handing it over as a gift to my child but it would be great to have, rather than not have. Also, my friend did similar. She agreed that she didn't want child maintenance. He then died and she wasn't entitled to any of his assets. I wouldn't cut your nose off despite your face. Dont blame you for trying to make a point.
PumpkinKlNG · 28/07/2021 11:32

He doesn't have any assets we have 4 children so it's £7 a week split between all of them, it's an insult in my eyes he can keep it.

OP posts:
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/07/2021 11:48

Presumably he’s on benefits if that’s all you have been awarded. It’s still £28 a month which would help towards their food.
I’d only see it as an insult if I was a high earner myself and solely taking personal responsibility for all the children’s finances myself.

Comedycook · 28/07/2021 11:51

I wouldn't cancel it. It's a shit amount but £28 a month would pay for a takeaway for you all. Better than nothing

PumpkinKlNG · 28/07/2021 11:56

It's already cancelled anyway or should be... Not going to open it again it would cost me more to open it.

OP posts:
coodawoodashooda · 28/07/2021 12:49

No it wouldn't. £28 is worth having. Yes it is an insult. The whole bastard lot of them should be put in jail. Its still £28.00.

Comedycook · 28/07/2021 13:08

£28 could buy a winter coat, a pair of school shoes, a trip to McDonald's.

PumpkinKlNG · 28/07/2021 13:10

And I can afford that without the money, it does cost to open it again, it costs £20. He can keep it as far as I’m concerned.

Agree with you OP. Rather no money than a pittance, probably pleases him to hand over so little for 4 children. Don't give him the satisfaction
Roselilly36 · 28/07/2021 13:14

I don’t blame you OP, such a paltry sum, he can stick it where the sun don’t shine. I would feel the same. Makes me so angry when Dads don’t pay for their kids, totally disgusting.

Thats what i think op. Its still money.
RavingAnnie · 28/07/2021 13:19

I think you've cut off your nose to spite your face there.

PumpkinKlNG · 28/07/2021 13:20

I’m glad others understand! Yes he loves paying me £7 for 4 children, he finds it hilarious and I’m not giving him the satisfaction anymore, I would rather have nothing as it’s not the difference between my children being fed or not, having new clothes or not, having a take away or not, having days out or not, their life won’t be impacted on me not claiming it as it’s not enough to make a difference and doesn’t even scratch the surface, I don’t even notice it going in my account. He doesn’t feel sad that he has to pay it, he enjoys knowing how little he pays. I would rather say stick your money than have him thinking he contributed.
