If I open another account with Lloyds Bank will it automatically show on our joint account app?

Just that really.
I want to start getting more financially independent with a view to LTB at some point so I want to open another bank account just in my name and gradually start building some funds up.
‘D’H and I have a joint account, mortgage and online saving account all with Lloyds and they all show up on the app that we both have on our phones.
If I open another account just in my name would that show up too? If it will I’ll use a different bank but Lloyds is by far the most convenient to where we currently live.

An account without your DH's name on it will not show on his online banking.

milienhaus · 05/10/2020 16:23

I don’t know the answer but why not get Monzo / a different online bank instead? You don’t then need to have a branch nearby.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 05/10/2020 16:25

I'm with a different bank , but the only accounts on my online banking and app are my personal accounts plus joint accounts , it's the same for my husband. I cannot see his personal accounts and he cannot see mine.

BrieAndChilli · 05/10/2020 16:28

I’m with Lloyds and have a joint account. DH opened a credit card with me as the 2nd card holder and I can’t see it on my app.

AnythingConsidered · 05/10/2020 16:29

I don't know the exact answer about the app, but I do know that Lloyd's will 'link' accounts based on your personal details.

DH and I have a joint personal Lloyd's account, where my DH is the 'lead' account holder. Separate to that, i am the finance Trustee for a local charity, who also bank with Lloyd's.

Each time I try to transact on the charity account, my husband gets a text/call for security reasons (that's what Lloyd's tell me when I ask why, anyway)

I've told them numerous times to disconnect the accounts, but nothing ever changes. Apparently my name, DOB and address are linking information.

On the basis of why you want an extra account, and to be ultra certain, I would recommend setting up with a separate bank.

greensnail · 05/10/2020 16:29

DH and I both bank with Lloyds, we both have our joint accounts in the app but any in our sole names just show on our own app. So long as you both have your own different log in details and aren't sharing your internet banking id and password it should be fine.

ShortFatandDumpy · 05/10/2020 16:30

No.
You have your own log ins.
Your log in will show joint account and any others joint or solely in your name.

Your partners log in will show the same joint account/s but nothing else unless he/she has any single accounts. You can't see thier single accounts on your log in.

HeronLanyon · 05/10/2020 16:35

You will need to be careful about them sending your debit card etc. If it comes form usual bank he may assume it’s for you both and open it. If from another bank entirely he may well then realise you’ve opened it. Also annual tax statements etc. However hard you try to be completely paper free some things can get through.
I have single and joint accounts with Lloyd’s plus a credit card with second card for my dp. Do can’t see anything but joint account. Only I can see my two sole name accounts.

grannycake · 05/10/2020 16:51

I bank with lloyds. We have a joint acc and my husband has another account. We can both see the joint account but I can't see his

AdoraBell · 05/10/2020 18:10

We have accounts with RBS, both joint and my individual accounts. I see all of them my app but DH doesn’t see my separate account on his app or inline. I don’t know about other banks.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/10/2020 18:12

Thanks all.
I think I’ll go to the branch and talk it through.
Apart from the convenience side of things using Lloyds, having anything arrive in the post from a different bank would definitely raise suspicion.
Everything feels very complicated at the moment, if I can get this sorted then stage 1will at least be in progress.....

If you have different login names and passwords, no. If you both use the same login info, it will.

I would stay on the safe side and use a different bank.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 05/10/2020 18:17

Yes, thinking about it I’m 99% sure that we use the same login info.

This is going to be more complicated than I thought.

Are there any banks that definitely don’t have their name printed on the outside of their envelopes?

I don't think any of them have their name on the outside of envelopes containing confidential banking information (statements, new cards etc). Only on promotional material.

That's an appalling breach of GDPR. He has nothing to do with that account at all, and should never be contacted in any way. The fact that you and he happen to have a joint bank account.

If I were you, I'd complain by letter to your branch manager (signed by yourself, the chair and the secretary of the charity), and tell the bank you are sending copies to the bank's head office, the financial ombudsman, and to the Charities Commission. That should scare them into sorting it out.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/10/2020 18:30

Can't you choose to go paperless with most banks?

Spacie · 05/10/2020 18:31

I take that back , Santander do.

Aquamarine1029 · 05/10/2020 18:32

You could also do a new registration for your online banking to set up your own login and password.

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 18:33

Your sole account will only show on your online banking, not his

dimdarkashian · 05/10/2020 18:35

You can go paperless and collect your card from the branch rather than have it posted to your address.

dimdarkashian · 05/10/2020 18:35

And as PPs have said he will not see any accounts in your sole name on his app.

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 18:36

You should both have your own log on details for the app/online banking as you are separate entities even though you share an account

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/10/2020 18:38

Theoretically it should be completely separate but I have an account with the same bank as our joint account (not Lloyd’s) and DH can see it when he logs in. I mentioned it to the bank and they said “that won’t happen” despite the fact that it clearly does. Hmm

DoneAdulting · 05/10/2020 18:39

When you log into internet banking, you log in as a customer, not an account. So you and your DH should have different log in details.

When you log in does it say "Good Morning Mrs Xxxxx"? And the same for your DH? That's an easy way to know if you're logging in as just one of you.

Don't bother going to the local branch, just open an account online, all banks send plain envelopes.

Goingunderground2 · 05/10/2020 22:06

Open an online saver with Lloyds. Should be paper free and no bank card to be posted out.
