If I open another account with Lloyds Bank will it automatically show on our joint account app?

Just that really.
I want to start getting more financially independent with a view to LTB at some point so I want to open another bank account just in my name and gradually start building some funds up.
‘D’H and I have a joint account, mortgage and online saving account all with Lloyds and they all show up on the app that we both have on our phones.
If I open another account just in my name would that show up too? If it will I’ll use a different bank but Lloyds is by far the most convenient to where we currently live.

Following with interest.

During divorce proceedings don't all accounts have to be transparent anyway though?

happyfeet245 · 05/10/2020 22:12

Pressed send too soon!

I often wonder how people get away with hiding money from their spouse. Any tips?!

WetWednesday · 05/10/2020 22:12

I second Monzo! It's brill and no letters!

AdvicePleaseThankyou · 05/10/2020 22:15

Monzo is your best bet.

combatbarbie · 05/10/2020 22:22

If he is logged into banking with his own banking details he won't see yours. I'm rbs and we have 2 joint acts, the rest of the savings acct are in my name and he can't see them. But he set up with my details so he can.... Not hiding anything, I've had the acct for years but no need to add him.

combatbarbie · 05/10/2020 22:24

OP I would go with another local bank and opt out of statements. If you go into branch with I'd you will be set up straight away.

combatbarbie · 05/10/2020 22:27

I'm also sure the card and pin can be sent to the branch, I remember reading something to do with abusive relationships.

Bundt · 05/10/2020 22:35

I'm with Barclays and I have a joint account with dh there and I also have a old joint account with my mum which she still uses occasionally. It's in my maiden name and her address which is my childhood address.

Numerous times Barclays have changed the address on this old account without permission and sent statements to mine and dh's home.

@Goingunderground2

Open an online saver with Lloyds. Should be paper free and no bank card to be posted out.
This is what I was going to suggest!

We bank with Lloyds and each have our own log in details - if you share the same one it sounds like only one of you is registered for internet banking. As a PP said log in and see whose name is at the top, if it's your DH then you need to register for yourself which you can do online or in branch.

Once you have your own log in, open your own online saver.

When I log in I can see my sole current account, sole online saver, sole ISA, my pension and our joint savings.

When DH logs in he can see his sole current account, sole ISA, his personal loan and our joint savings. He absolutely CANNOT see any of my sole accounts.

FizzyPink · 05/10/2020 22:45

I would get a Starling account. Everything is managed from your app and the card comes in a thick envelope that looks almost like a party invitation so not bank like at all.

You can then just go to the post office and deposit any cash you have into it

Heyahun · 05/10/2020 22:52

Yeah just get revolut/Monzo it in-line bank ! Wouldn’t bother with another physical bank account! Just sign up on the app it’s easy

minnimiss · 05/10/2020 22:52

Another vote for Monzo! It's all just so easy! And all online. No paper anything, and all managed by the app.

If it does end up in divorce then I’ll have moved out by then and everything will be out in the open.

I’m not quite sure how I’m going to be able to save very much, but the thought that I have the option is giving me hope right now.

My initial ideas are small but so far: selling things on eBay / FB marketplace then transferring the money from PayPal into the new account.
Same with Quidco balance - also look up similar sites to do the same thing.
Any significant cash that I might get from FB marketplace sales, presents etc can be paid straight in if it’s a High Street account. If it’s online then I’ll give it to a good friend who will pay it in for me.

Baby steps and all that. I’m under no illusion that anything will happen quickly.

Starling is looking good. And being able to pay cash in at the Post Office is ideal 👍🏻

Starling are great and you can have separate savings pots. Totally recommend them.

Kona84 · 09/10/2020 07:10

It would be a breach by the bank if your husband could see details of your sole accounts and vice versa.

SplunkPostGres · 09/10/2020 07:23

Open a Monzo or Starling account. You can open an account in minutes through their app. Can also vouch for Monzo having non branded and very lovely stationary for cards which don’t look like bank correspondence at all.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/10/2020 15:41

Starling account applied for. I’m awaiting confirmation 😬

@Muchtoomuchtodo please double check the greeting name when you log in to Lloyds online banking. You should each have your own separate log in details. If this is in your name, change the passwords immediately.

If it's in his name, go into the branch & speak to them about changing your address to the branch address & registering for internet banking in your own name.

There is lots they can do to help customers who don't want mail to go out for partners to see

ny20005 · 09/10/2020 15:49

@AnythingConsidered this is an issue with the number fraud alerts are sent to. Fill out an online complaint form giving details of the mobile numbers & the alerts that are going to that number. They will fix it (if not, pm me)

AnythingConsidered · 10/10/2020 13:13

@ny20005 thank you for the heads up, I'll do the online complaint form now.

AdoraBell · 10/10/2020 18:15

I asked in NatWest for accounts for my DC. They said it’s done online now.

Think it’s via their App, but you take a selfie and upload a picture of your ID, passport/driving license. You only have to go into a branch if the system doesn’t accept the ID photo not being the same as the selfie. So if you were blonde and now red head, fe.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/10/2020 21:30

@ny20005 thank you. The app has his name at the top of the screen. I need to get individual access sorted I think but in the meantime I’ve applied for a Starling bank account. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get approved.

OP posts:
ny20005 · 10/10/2020 23:06

Are you sure the account & savings are joint ? If your using the same log in details, they could all be in his sole name & legally none of the money is yours

Cantreasonwithunreasonable · 10/10/2020 23:24

Try Starling bank, all online & can use post office.
Can even pay in cheques by photographing them with your phone.
All done on phone, is excellent.
