What to do can't work or claim benefits

I've been on medication for depression and anxiety for 8 years.

I have dyslexia and an autism diagnosis.

I'm currently on a waiting list to be assessed for dyspraxia and something to do with cognitive ???

I know people CAN work with the above but I cannot.

I've tried. Day to day life is hard.

I had a PIP assessment in August and got awarded 2 points. I'm now waiting to hear back re a tribunal meeting.

There are lots of contradictions and false information in the DWP report.

I'm stuck. Husband works but it barely covers the bills.

Any advice please x

So my first thought was financial abuse, but you've since confirmed that this isn't the case

I'm not so sure. He may cover essentials but it does not sound as if op has money to spend otherwise apart frpm cb nor freedom to do so. Is there debt or a previous issue around finances?

What job was it you tried? What went well , what less so?

LonginesPrime · 17/06/2020 16:45

Yes, good point, LIZS.

OP, does your DH struggle for money? What's his view on all of this?

And does he stay in accommodation elsewhere that has to be paid for, or is that covered by his employer?

Viviennemary · 17/06/2020 17:13

It sounds like both of you need to get together and talk about your finances. Life is very hard when you can't make ends meet. Maybe he needs to review his job and why he has to work away. And good point is he paying for accommodation elsewhere. Also food.

Seriously this is why I hate Mumsnet. Yes she is. She had never mentioned it to me.

@Viviennemary yes he pays towards food travel and accommodation. Not 100% but still.

Have you checked you're not entitled to UC ? With 2 children you might ?

RockThrills · 17/06/2020 18:02

You're missing the point re your friend who has anxiety. It's based upon the difficulties you experience during the 12 activities the majority of the time. No your dx.

LonginesPrime · 17/06/2020 18:15

yes he pays towards food travel and accommodation. Not 100% but still.

Right, so the problem is that you're running two households on one salary, then.

Vivvienne's right - you need to sit down together and have a very frank discussion about the reality of your situation.

TitianaTitsling · 17/06/2020 19:03

Can you move closer to his work? Or can he look at changing jobs? (Prob not easy in the current circumstances)

SpideyMom · 17/06/2020 19:28

If you hate Mumsnet then maybe this is the wrong place come for advice?

Just because people aren't giving you the answers you would like doesnt mean people are being nasty. They are telling you the reality of your situation and asking questionsin order to give you advice. Hopefully your decision will get overturned at appeal, however you also need to plan for the outcome that their decision could remain same. You are then still in the same position, so maybe you need to be working on that equally as you providing evidence for your eligibility for PIP.

Remember Mumsnet is a place to come for advice. It is the opinions and experiences of others, not facts about your own situation

She was referencing the snide troll hunting in the post immediately before hers. It’s been deleted.

She doesn’t have to enjoy being snarked at.

SpideyMom · 17/06/2020 19:35

My apologies it was deleted before I saw it. But still a pretty bold thing to say. Unfortunately you are going to get it. But for the most part people just want to help

ArriettyJones · 17/06/2020 19:38

My apologies it was deleted before I saw it. But still a pretty bold thing to say.

I thought it was quite restrained considering she’d just, essentially, been called a liar.

Grumpybuttons · 17/06/2020 19:42

People with anxiety and autism can work. That’s me. I also have other long term auto immune diseases. I’m eligible for PIP but I don’t have it.

You can work. You just need to find out what suits you - and that means you’ll need to start volunteering and dabble.

Sorry if I sound harsh but nothing changes if nothing changes Smile

RedLuck · 17/06/2020 20:00

@Grumpybuttons if you're eligible please apply!

funnylittlefloozie · 17/06/2020 20:03

Have you made a budget? When DH is home, the two of you need to sit down with a bank statement and look at exactly what you are spending. Look at every direct debit, every cash withdrawal.

If your DH isnt earning enough to cover all the bills currently, can he look for a better job? Could you do something like leaflet delivery or ironing, where you can't really go wrong? Its not very well-paid, but it is at least something coming in. There used to be companies that paid you for doing online surveys - i have no idea if they are still going, but might be worth looking into.

I wish you good luck.

Grumpybuttons · 17/06/2020 20:08

@RedLuck My consultant reminded me to apply for PIP today too. I think I will Flowers

@Marianne22 now is the ideal time to look into work as many many jobs are working from home temporarily - this would be great for you to begin with.

What about an apprenticeship? How about computer programming? My colleague is dyslexic and he’s a fab coder!

I know how awful anxiety is - I was on Valium a few weeks ago for it. It’s a fight but it’s worth fighting through it because life is so much better on the other side (of anxiety). You need to break the cycle!

Marianne22 · 17/06/2020 20:12

I didn't report that post?
