Where are people with their tax credits renewal?

Hiya.

Am just wondering where people are in the process with their renewals?

My pack came pretty fast this year which was a relief as my payments dropped significantly due to me having to provide them details. I did this and got my reference number to say it had been submitted. Over 2 weeks later I received a text message to say my renewal has been received and will take 8 weeks to complete.

I then got onto chat to ask if they required me to send in proof of my contributions and was told I had to wait for them. So I guess I'm going to be down in my TCs for some time.

Has anyone elses renewal gone through quickly when giving different details to those in the renewal pack?

TIA x

What is the app called to check?

SpideyMom · 13/06/2020 12:34

Its the HMRC app. You need a government gateway id but its so useful to have.

Mines been sat in processing for god knows how long now. The last agent i spoke to which was a while ago now told me to expect a longer wait than usual. Which i do understand given what's going on. It just doesn't help when yoir award is wrong and you have to deal with it until they get round to you

I agree it’s the reduced payments that have messed me up,I think judging by what everyone says and the situation we’re in this for the long haul.

SpideyMom · 13/06/2020 13:39

Every year I have this so I should be use to it now. But combined with being on furlough and maintenance payments stopped, all I can say is thank god we are barely leaving the house!

I've downloaded the app. It doesn't say anything about where my renewal is - is this cos they told me on the phone that it would renew automatically?

SpideyMom · 13/06/2020 18:04

I'm not sure. Mine was automatically renewing but I will had something about the renewal to click on on the front screen.

Shell7272 · 13/06/2020 19:04

same,i also had a message on the front screen, if you've just downloaded it perhaps it will update info shortly.

Totallycluelessoverhere · 14/06/2020 08:58

Ours still hadn’t been updated to reflect the pension contributions but it’s going to take even longer now as I have submitted a change of circumstance as well. I reckon I will see an even bigger drop in payments Sad

SpideyMom · 14/06/2020 12:35

Its horrible. I've developed the obsession of constantly checking the app. I wish I didn't rely on them, but I do. More so now than everSad

Shell7272 · 14/06/2020 15:07

Glad it’s not just me,I check about every 30 minutes!

Totallycluelessoverhere · 14/06/2020 15:49

Mine looks like it has updated and I think it might be correct for the payments going forward but I’m pretty sure I am owed money for the period over which my payments have been reduced. I’m guessing they have actioned the change I made to circumstances but not updated the renewal figures I gave them.

Shell7272 · 14/06/2020 16:17

I think that’s the same as me,I made a change which updated in a couple of days,in fact my payments went down for a second time even though I I’m not earning any more but my renewal still says processing.

SpideyMom · 14/06/2020 18:15

Its funny you say that @Totallycluelessoverhere as I always feel the same way, as if I'm still owed for the period where they've been reduced as they only ever seem to go to what they should be and not account for the months of reduced payments

@SpideyMom,hate to ask you again but how is it going for you?

SpideyMom · 18/06/2020 14:35

Still the same. It really upsetting me. You?

Shell7272 · 18/06/2020 15:39

Yes,still obsessing with the app and just feel on edge, like you, lack of money and it feels never ending and I want to call them but daren’t!

SpideyMom · 18/06/2020 15:59

I've given up calling as they've told me before that they cant actually access my account. Whereas last year they could. So it seems we have to wait.

I do have some good news though. I've had the call to say that I can return to work from July. And they are offering me full flexibility due to my DS. I'm so pleased as childcare would have been my next worry. I've got to now find someone to have him for me but I dont want to remain off any longer. I've been desperate to work for so long now. And I dont mean that selfishly. Its been wonderful having this time with him, but like so many others I have have lost so much income into the home since March. We rely on my income only. So a loss of maintenance and massive drop in tax credits its been absolutely shit combined with a loss of wage. Everything is on my shoulders so I need to get back to work not only to save our home, but also for routine and my own sanity too. I miss adult conversation lol.

When I go back my household income will still be less than before due to maintenance and tax credit loss, however will be abit more than we have lived on for the last 3 months.

I just hope that when my award is finalised its done properly and the loss if have had since they were reduced is factored in. As like another poster has said earlier in this thread, when it's finalised it never seems to include the amount that's been reduced.

Seems like its been going on forever though. And as for the increase due to Covid-19. Whats that lol. Ive not felt an increase. I've lost

I’m so pleased for you, some good news at least it’s been so hard I know and yes I love being with my children but I do also like to be at work so I know what you mean. I never saw any rise due to Covid either 😂 and I do worry that mine won’t get worked out properly either,it does always seem that I get reduced payments for so long and never see anything back! Oh well not too long until July for you so something to look forward to,if i hear anything at all I’ll let you know.

SpideyMom · 18/06/2020 17:01

Same here. Hopefully ours will get finalised soon

Does any one know, if my income increases by £3000 a year starting in August, will I have to let tax credits know and will I be moved to universal credit ? Thanks

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 09:07

You won't be moved but I would inform them. I inform them of all my income changes but as yours will be above £2500 different, they are likely to recalculate your award to prevent being overpaid. Because of how they are worked you are likely to see a drop as essentially it will mean you have been paid too much already (worked over a year and not from date change made). Hope that helps

ILoveYoghurts · 19/06/2020 09:19

Thank you @SpideyMom that's really helpful. I was worried in case I was moved to universal credit which I really don't want to

SpideyMom · 19/06/2020 09:37

no problem @ILoveYoghurts. I'm certain that income change doesn't trigger a move unless you fall below a certain amount of hours. Maybe use the tax credit calculator to give you an idea.

Being moved onto UC is something that's been a real worry for me as it's a huge loss moving on to that. I think it's down to me have a mortgage, but I cant get my head around how big the decrease is. I consider myself to struggle based on what I normally get with tax credits so to lose £220 a month is alot for me. Thankfully I am able to return to work soon so that's lifted some worry

When you go online and it says your renewal should be completed 30th November. I could cry

OP posts:
Totallycluelessoverhere · 22/06/2020 11:57

Received a letter this morning saying they want original documents proving the difference in income That I reported at renewal. They want the documents by 16th July or won’t consider the difference (pension contributions).
