Where are people with their tax credits renewal?

Hiya.

Am just wondering where people are in the process with their renewals?

My pack came pretty fast this year which was a relief as my payments dropped significantly due to me having to provide them details. I did this and got my reference number to say it had been submitted. Over 2 weeks later I received a text message to say my renewal has been received and will take 8 weeks to complete.

I then got onto chat to ask if they required me to send in proof of my contributions and was told I had to wait for them. So I guess I'm going to be down in my TCs for some time.

Has anyone elses renewal gone through quickly when giving different details to those in the renewal pack?

TIA x

I use the app and just keep it up to date all the time. I only ever get an autorenew in the post. Its gone up 100 a month, no idea why.

SpideyMom · 20/05/2020 13:53

The increase is because the allowance for this year has increased due to coronavirus, effectively giving you roughly 100 extra a month.
Despite this mines still significantly down. I get this every renewal due to how my pension is paid. So every renewal payments get reduced. They then get recalculated once my renewal is finalised. And then come April the same thing happens again because of the figure my employer declares to HMRC. So keeping it up to date is out of my control unfortunately

I'm not paying for childcare at the minute cos it's closed cos of covid. Obviously I don't know when when this will start again now.
I've just thought, this won't trigger a move onto universal credit will it?

SpideyMom · 20/05/2020 19:05

No it doesn't. I was the same and it just removes childcare until it needs to be readded

Ok good
I forgot to phone them about this
I need to phone them to adjust something else slightly so will do it at the same time. Haven't spent the money so should be ok!

SpideyMom · 21/05/2020 09:57

Payments still havent corrected for me Sad I really wish I hadn't bothered. I dont want to phone them again as you dont get through to an advisor anyway to actually look at your account. But the reduction made I'm certain they shouldnt have gone down

I gave in and contacted them over chat. I actually find the whole thing really painful. Every year it's like deja vu and I am made to feel like I am in the wrong and that it's my fault i have an overpayment. This is now the third year of being in the Nest pension scheme and previous years although it takes months they always accept my contributions.
It actually upsets me that every year I get the same from them
I really wish I could call and get to speak to an adviser

Have they corrected the payments since You contacted them in chat spideymom?

Devlesko · 25/05/2020 14:46

mine was auto renewal too, sorry.
Just make sure you have the details as soon as you can, because they can close your claim if you go over the allocated time. They did this to me once, but it ws when you just made a new claim, today you'd be put on UC instead.

SpideyMom · 25/05/2020 17:48

@Totallycluelessoverhere no unfortunately not. I ended up calling and speaking to a man asking why it had happened. All he said was the system tries to stop you getting an overpayment. But that didn't make sense to me as the payments have decreased although my salary has decreased by over 4000. Would have thought they went up.
I've been told I will be on furlough longer so he recommended I change my estimate again for this year. I said what if it goes down? He said it wont. Well, the next day it went down again so now I give up with it. My tax credits are over £200 a month wrong now! And I can bloody feel it! He said the calculator is only a guide. I said that's fair but it's always been accurate to within pounds for me, and besides you've given me my allowances for this year, I can work out my own withdrawal amount so I know for sure they are wrong.
I'm annoyed with it really as he did say I will have this every year.

Mine didn't have a black line through but when I called he said it would automatically renew

purpleme12 · 26/05/2020 14:00

I didn't know there was an app
What's the name of this app?

purpleme12 · 26/05/2020 14:32

Is it really an extra £100 a month to everyone on tax credits cos of covid??

Devlesko · 26/05/2020 17:12

No, it's £20 pw max, depending on your income. I got the full £80 for dd, but we are low income.

purpleme12 · 26/05/2020 17:31

I just have got the maximum too I guess I think it has gone up by about that much
I am earning less at the moment (although still got my job) so I guess it's good

purpleme12 · 26/05/2020 17:31

#must have, not just

Shell7272 · 05/06/2020 14:59

I know it’s been a few days, but did you get sorted out with your renewal? Mine has been stuck on ready for processing for 4 weeks now,not even processing lol,I have used the chat twice now just to be told it could be 8/10 weeks,I’m currently checking about every hour 😂

PickAChew · 05/06/2020 15:04

Haven't even got our pack, yet.

SpideyMom · 05/06/2020 15:48

It took a few weeks for mine to change it processing but has been stuck in processing for the last 3 to 4 weeks now. I have been told to expect it to take up to 12 weeks due to mine having changes.
I've also got a feeling my job is no longer secure so I am shitting myself about being moved the UC credit which is a significant drop for me. So currently apply for jobs to make sure I remain in employment.
Renewal always takes months for me so I should be used to it but this year I was hoping it would have been more straightforward given it's the same reason I need to declare a lower income

OP posts:
Shell7272 · 05/06/2020 18:56

@PickAChew,i hope you get it soon.

Shell7272 · 05/06/2020 19:04

@SpideyMom,i read your post from last year and you had a really bad time with it i know,we also have got changes this year,so i don't hold out much hope as income is lower too,i just have a funny feeling about it,good luck with the job hunting, ihope it all works out.

SpideyMom · 05/06/2020 19:11

Thanks @Shell7272 I'm just fed up with it all now.

OP posts:
Shell7272 · 13/06/2020 11:41

@SpideyMom,any joy?

SpideyMom · 13/06/2020 11:49

@Shell7272 noooooooooo. Unfortunately not. I desperately need them to he sorted but there is nothing I can do.
I did receive my provisional award following me updating my estimated earnings for this year. It did make me laugh. Clearly states what I've declared but says underneath they are still basing it on my declared earnings for last tax year and won't use the lower figure until next renewal!!!! But what's been declared for last year still needs my contributions taken off so its wrong.

How about you?

Shell7272 · 13/06/2020 12:06

What’s wrong with them?😂 Not really, yesterday I changed from ready for processing to processing and it says by 30th November 😭x
