How do I pay rent and deposit on particular day if I don't get paid until a few days after that day?

Danity1000 · 21/03/2019 16:21

I'm moving to a new apartment on Monday, on the moving day I need £2k to sign the contract (deposit and first months rent). My problem is that my salary and maintenance comes in on the first of every month. I don't have 2k right now BUT on the 1st I will have more than 2k. The estate agent is saying I cannot start tenancy without the money which is understandable, my boss is saying he cannot pay me early and my child's dad is saying he doesn't get paid until the first (which is when he pays me maintenance) so he can't pay maintenance early. I can't move at a later date because someone is moving into the flat I'm moving out of.

I don't know what to do, no one has any money right before the end of the month for mate loans. I looked up getting an online £2k loan for a week which is something that doesn't seem to exist, then I looked at any other available £2k loans and it's like they charge so much!! I pretty much no credit score.. Any car I have bought outright, I have never had a credit card.. etc.

Am I being a numpty in not being able to work this out? Please could someone, help me problem solve this as I'm sat here not knowing what to do

Well the obvious answer is that you should have put this money aside when you got paid last month. Do you have a friend you can borrow from? Big ask but you never know.

Fazackerley · 21/03/2019 16:25

Sorry completely missed that bit. Apologies.

A 2k loan from sainsburys or somewhere? Over 2 years might not be too expensive?

Danity1000 · 21/03/2019 16:27

what I should have done is clearly no answer to what I asked. I wasn't able to put that money aside last month don't feel like I need to explain the details of that as it's not at all that this was about.

When we last moved we had to save for a couple of months before to ensure we had the money for the deposit and rent.
You surely have had notice from your current landlord about moving or would have given them notice so knew in advance that you would be moving?

I don’t know where you get the lone you without a big charge tbh

Money*

Lost5stone · 21/03/2019 16:37

Can you move out of your current place and stay with a friend or family for a week and delay moving into the new place until the 1st?

SimplyPut · 21/03/2019 16:37

The answer is staying somewhere else for a few days.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/03/2019 16:38

Have you got anyone with a credit card that has a limit higher than £2k? It'll have to be someone with decent credit as sub-prime lenders tend to stop at £1k.

If you really can't borrow it yourself from friends/family or get it from a lender, the reality is that you won't be able to pay on time. If you are renting your current place, you'll inconvenience a lot of people by not going when you are supposed to; but there will be little that can be done for a few days. Otherwise can you afford to go to a hotel for a few nights and put your things in someone's garage or storage?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 21/03/2019 16:40

Ah I just noticed that someone else is moving in, so that's not an option.

You'll have to stay somewhere else. Get asking friends whether you can put things in their spare room or garage for a week, and find a cheap bedsit or hotel for a few nights. It won't be fun; but it's the only way to bridge the gap if you can't raise the £2k.

Will the landlord let you move in if you pay when you get paid? Have you signed a contract?

sushisuperstar · 21/03/2019 16:43

Could you air bnb if you don't have a pal to stay with?

bigbluebus · 21/03/2019 16:44

Can you ask your bank for a credit limit? If you have a regular salary going in to your account and no debts and have been a customer at that bank for a while then I can't see why they wouldn't help.

NWQM · 21/03/2019 16:44

Are you not getting anything back for your current flat by moving mid month and receiving your deposit back?

If so do you mean you need £2k on top of this?

Temporary bank overdraft for the 7 days might be possible if you have an otherwise good record with them.

Motherofcreek · 21/03/2019 16:44

I’d genuinely not move out.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 21/03/2019 16:48

I think the comments about saving in advance are pretty spot on and saying this to make you aware that you need to be able to budget better. You obviously knew you would be moving as you have given notice so should have been preparing to keep some money aside to cover costs.

As for what to do. Is there anything you can sell on fb or gumtree even a few sales would start to add up? I presume you don't need to make the full £2k so think about how much you have already and then work out how much you need to make.

Failing that can you stay with a friend or relative for a week, this might not be viable depending on how much stuff you have to bring with you though?

As a last resort you are going to have to take out a loan what you cannot do is stay put and inconvenience the person who is going to move into your old accommodation.

SD1978 · 21/03/2019 17:00

Is this not potentially going to be an ongoing issue? If you get paid late, then you won't always have the rent money on time, by a few days? Are you planning on paying in cash on the first, or transferring, which may take a few days to come through anyway? I hope you can sort something out- can you get storage for your stuff for a few days and start the tenancy later?

donajimena · 21/03/2019 17:06

No way could I save up 2k whilst renting my current home. No matter how well I budget! Some people have no idea what its like to live pay day to pay day Confused

ShadowMane · 21/03/2019 17:08

Air bnb seems to be the best idea

NuclearReactor · 21/03/2019 17:12

You don't have the money, someone else is moving in. You'll need to find somewhere to stay and store your belongings for a few days.

Unless you can talk to the landlord and get an extra week. However the tenant moving in would also have to do this with their landlord and so on.

Bobbybobbins · 21/03/2019 17:25

Have you tried to apply for a credit card?

Kissmycousinkate · 21/03/2019 17:40

How about going to the bank and see if they could add an overdraft to your account, if it's just for a few days should only cost a few pounds in charges

Asdf12345 · 21/03/2019 17:43

Just pop into your local bank branch and explain the situation including that it will be our back on the first, assuming you have a half decent record you should get an overdraft to cover it.

Sparrowlegs248 · 21/03/2019 17:43

Get a temporary overdraft, I've done this before.

Asdf12345 · 21/03/2019 17:43

Should only cost a few quid in fees.

nrpmum · 21/03/2019 17:45

Overdraft

Redglitter · 21/03/2019 17:47

I’d genuinely not move out

Seriously? When your tenancy is up & people are ready to move in.
