I booked our holiday online with my barclaycard in May.Subsequently card got cancelled as someone was using it online fraudulently to buy stationery(???).I have a new card now everything fine BUT I need the old card to collect my eurostar tickets.Rang eurostar toexplain and they said just get a letter from barclaycard confirming my old card number and the fact it was cancelled and thats ok.So ring barclaycard to ask for letter and they said NO!No discussion nothing. They just said take your statement from your old account but eurosatr want a letter.I don't know where to turn

Dont know exactly what to do but it doesnt seem right that both companies are passing ghe buck so to speak. If I was you I would go into a Barclays Bank and talk to someone they might be able to give you a letter.

noddyholder · 14/06/2007 17:13

It is barclaycard visa though but I will try that tomorrow thanks. We are gutted eurostar say no letter no tickets and barclaycard say no letter AAAAAAAAAAh!!!

Ask Barclaycard if they can give you the number for the FSA

tutu100 · 14/06/2007 18:13

I would write and complain about this situation to Barclays head office or customer services and see if you get any response from them. When do you need to collect your tickets?

TravelVoice · 14/06/2007 18:20

Did you print any documentation out when you booked online, ie did eurostar give you a booking confirmation ref or number that you may have printed out and kept as evidence that it was you who booked ?

What about your card statements?

Will your holiday insurance cover the cost of new tickets?

noddyholder · 14/06/2007 21:51

Thanks. What eurostar want is a letter saying the old card is cancelled.I suppose they might think I am not who I say I am and the real person will turn up with the original card.I have loads of documentation including the statement with the purchase on it and the documents sending my new card but no letter cancelling the old card which was all done over the phone.I am thinking of taking all documents I have and going up to waterloo to try and get tickets. Will def ask barclays to refer me on to either FSA or ombudsman Thanks for listening ds is so upset this is only the second holiday we have had as a family since my transplant and we are gutted

Have you had any correspondance about the cancellation of the old card? Or the replacement card?

noddyholder · 15/06/2007 16:49

I have the correspondence for the new card but the old one was all dealt with over the phone adn i had to cut the card up I have sent an email to their customer services and fingers crossed for a reply. The only other thing we can do is buy more tickets which I really can't afford atm

I had to cut up my barclaycard recently as someone was using it in online croatian betting shops...Anyway I got the new card quickly but it took about 2 weeks for the letter confirming the old one had been cancelled.

You probably won't get anyone at Barclaycard that can deal with it on the phone until Monday morning now, from my experience. But wait till then and insist on speaking to a supervisor.

noddyholder · 15/06/2007 17:11

I am hoping a letter will come aswell.I have had the card about 2 weeks(the new one). Will wait til Monday and then panic

How do you reckon someone got your details? I am completely clueless on how mine came to be used fraudulently - I never use it in shops or petrol stations or cashpoints. Only use it online really and then via a thoroughly firewalled system.

Twiglett · 15/06/2007 17:25

Your firewall protects YOUR machine .. but you're doing transactions on the web .. so your credit card details are going out there .. its where its going that enables people to get your details

NoodleStroodle · 15/06/2007 17:28

Noddy - I also think you need to escalate this to someone with balls at Barclaycard rather just the operator who answers the phone and can't make executive decisions. Tell them that you have a serious complaint to make. They should be able to whack out a letter to you without any problems.

Oblomov · 15/06/2007 17:32

I agree with Noodle, demand to speak to supervisor, I got fobbed off and off and off by Barclaycard, then spoke to a supervisor and then his manager. Sorted within 2 secs. Don't give up.

noddyholder · 15/06/2007 17:33

I don't know.Someone in US has been buying stationery since october about 50 dollars a month I only noticed it is January and made a complaint and it has just recently been cancelled.Wish I had collected my tickets before I cut the card though.I am planning to stay on the phone Monday until I get a stisfactory response. They are quick enough to send out endless letters offering me loans etc

Crotchety · 15/06/2007 17:36

That's true enough Twiglett although again, I have only been using what I would consider safeish sites like Amazon and so on. Did wonder whether it might have had something to do with a paypal transaction on the same day as the fraud started but again, thought that was supposed to be pretty secure. Its disconcerting to say the least.

Crotchety · 18/06/2007 12:37

Any joy yet Noddy?

MrsWobble · 18/06/2007 12:39

will eurostar post the tickets out to the address given on the credit card used to book them?

noddyholder · 18/06/2007 12:40

NO!They have said they are going to ring me today to discuss it??????????Surely it would cost less to send the letter than the phone call.Getting so worried as ds keeps asking if we are still going Hope they are going to do the letter otherwise I may contact one of the money pages in the paper

OP posts:
noddyholder · 18/06/2007 12:42

Wobbly thats what I asked for but I booked the whole trip via expedia and this is their only method of collection There is nothing by post all online The financial ombudsman would take too long

OP posts:
Crotchety · 18/06/2007 12:53

Have you got a number to chivvy them? YOu don't want to be waiting in all day and then they ring when you pop out...

noddyholder · 18/06/2007 13:44

Managed to get the number for serious complaints(barclaycard) and the guy was so helpful He said they were being ridiculous and he was typing a letter to eurostar as we spoke and would also include his name and direct line so that if neccesary they could verify with him over the phone aswell as by letter. Why were the other people so difficult?I have been stressed about thia all weekend
