Are you a married couple? If so you are not single

Icklepickle101 · 26/05/2018 12:18

Regardless of parentage you aren’t single so you claim as a couple

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 26/05/2018 12:19

You can't claim as single when you're a couple regardless of who the father of your child is.

Whatififall · 26/05/2018 12:19

If you live together you claim as a couple.

lemonland001 · 26/05/2018 12:21

Yes we live together and we not separeated, only our finance is separeted and house morgage belongs to husband

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/05/2018 12:24

I know you mean tax credits what do you mean by “ our finance”.
And like pp says if you live with someone as a couple it’s a joint claim.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/05/2018 12:26

Oh I understand now, is English not your first language op?
If you have separate finances, and are not living “as a couple” you can make a single claim.

lemonland001 · 26/05/2018 12:26

Finance - salary and how we pay for everything, and we pay for everything half and half, for example, house morgage, food any other expenses, hope that is clare

How you personally work your finances has no bearing on what you should claim from tax credits.

If you live together it does need to be a joint claim.

Byebyebye · 26/05/2018 12:33

You live together as husband and wife. You cannot claim as a single person because you are not a single person.

Doesn’t matter your husband isn’t your child’s father or you don’t combine finances.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/05/2018 12:36

That’s not actually true Buzz if the op and her h have split up, but still live in the same house with separate finances, the op can make a single claim.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/05/2018 12:37

Are you still in a relationship with your husband op?

BewareOfDragons · 26/05/2018 12:41

You're not single. You're married. You're together. You can't claim as 'single', no matter how your finances are being done.

RhinoBlue · 26/05/2018 12:41

If you are living with your husband in a relationship you cannot claim as single even if you have separate finances.

You can only claim as single if you are single.

You can claim as single while still living with your husband providing you have separated and are not sharing a room together.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 26/05/2018 12:41

Yes we live together and we not separeated

I'm replying to the ops situation.

rainingcatsanddog · 26/05/2018 12:44

Think she means that she is married to a man who is stepfather to her child. They have separate finances. She wants to know if she is considered a single parent.

Answer is no. If you were single, you won't live with a husband or boyfriend.

Babyroobs · 26/05/2018 14:01

No of course you can't claim as single assuming you live with your husband/ partner. his income will be taken into account for any tax credit award. Your son's biological dad should be paying towards his upkeep.

Babyroobs · 26/05/2018 14:04

And just to add the threshold for one child is around 26k so if you jointly earn over this you won't get any tax credits unless you pay childcare .

Bombardier25966 · 26/05/2018 14:14

Is this a new claim or are you already committing fraud?

lemonland001 · 26/05/2018 15:50

Rhinoblue: how to provide that we not share room?because it is true as well...

OP posts:
Sametimetomorrow · 26/05/2018 15:51

Yes but are you a couple?

Whyohwhy65 · 26/05/2018 15:52

You can't claim as single if you are living together. They don't care if you share a room. Simple. You want to claim then move out

RhinoBlue · 26/05/2018 16:39

Are you in a relationship or not?

If you are not in a relationship, you can claim as a single person (whilst still living together but in separate rooms) for a short period of time while you find somewhere else to live.

If you are together in a relationship then you cannot claim as single regardless of how you split your finances. It is fraud to say you are single if you are not.
