Account under review

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 21:13

Has anyone had this happen to them? How long did it take to resolve?
Worried sick and being made to feel I'm a criminal even though I haven't done anything wrong 😓

What type of account and why is it under review?

sleepyhead · 05/08/2017 21:22

How did you find put about this? It wasn't an email by any chance?

If so, hopefully you haven't clicked on any links and logged into anything.

Sounds possibly iffy.

Allthebestnamesareused · 05/08/2017 21:26

What sleepyhead says. If you have clicked a link call your bank immediately on their 24 hour number/fraud number

Migraleve · 05/08/2017 21:32

What account?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/08/2017 21:52

If it's an email it will almost certainly be a phishing email designed to make you click on the link and give them your details. It's probably a scam.

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 22:18

It's a bank account - a current account. Only found out when I rang to transfer some money.

OP posts:
Migraleve · 05/08/2017 22:27

Well when you spoke to them what did they say? It's very hard to give any answers as you have been incredibly vague.

dementedpixie · 05/08/2017 22:34

Are they offering you an account review? Normally means they are trying to sell you something!

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 22:42

Ok I'm obviously in the wrong place if no one knows what I mean.
The account is effectively frozen, they won't tell me why only that the fraud team are investigating but no timescale for how long that might be.
I can explain all transactions on my account but they won't let me. I have no redress just told to wait it out.
I cannot use my debit card but direct debits etc will still go out. I can get cash if I go to the branch with Id.
I have had the account for many many years with no problems and suddenly this.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 05/08/2017 22:45

Nobody knew what you meant because you didn't give any information. Can you access any transactions? Have any been made that you don't recognise?

Migraleve · 05/08/2017 22:45

Ok I'm obviously in the wrong place if no one knows what I mean.

Nobody knew what you meant because you didn't tell anybody anything Hmm

dementedpixie · 05/08/2017 22:46

which bank is it?

NanooCov · 05/08/2017 22:51

If there's been fraudulent activity on your account it sounds like a great idea for them to be having a look at it, if inconvenient for you not being able to use your cards.

If there's no fraudulent activity you've nothing to be worried about and it'll be resolved in due course.

I had fraudulent activity on my account a year or so ago - I had to fill in some paperwork, had new cards issue and that was it. Full refund of the dodgy transactions.

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 22:51

Sorry I assumed "under review" was a banking term people might know although admittedly I didn't until the other day.
Checked all transactions nothing is odd. Some larger (but not huge) amounts have gone in and out recently for a big purchase but nothing really unusual.
It's just so frustrating with the bank. I feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall as they won't offer any info. Just told to wait for the review to be concluded but that may take weeks and weeks.
I have complained but that apparently will not influence the review in any way.
I just wondered if there was anyone out there who had suffered the same.

If they're not unusual, why mention them? If you don't usually have larger amounts, then surely they are unusual? Confused
I would hazard a guess that these larger transactions are the reason. How were the transactions performed - cheque, electronic transfer from another account? If so, what other account - one in your name, or a personal account in someone else's name? Give us some clues and we might be able to help you.

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 23:11

Transferred £2k from another personal account, then paid out £1.5k for car deposit by debit card. The amounts aren't unusual but buying a car isn't something I do regularly.
Please I am not being deliberately evasive, there is no back story, nothing to hide. I am confused, frustrated and frankly pretty stressed.

OP posts:
AngeloftheSouth84 · 05/08/2017 23:14

That doesn't sound particularly suspicious. Was the other account in your name? Unless the company you've paid the deposit to is known for being dodgy or something?

AngeloftheSouth84 · 05/08/2017 23:15

Which bank is it out of interest?

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 23:16

It's Barclays and the recipient of the deposit is legit - a major car manufacturer/ dealership.

OP posts:
SandyDenny · 05/08/2017 23:17

How have you tried to resolve this? Have you been to a branch or phoned them? It seems very odd they aren't giving you any information.

I'd be pretty cross if they did that to me, I don't know why you're getting a hard time

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 23:20

Yes took time off work to visit the branch they couldn't give any info but with I. D and payslips they generously allowed me to take out some of my own money. I can't however write cheques or use my debit card.

OP posts:
AngeloftheSouth84 · 05/08/2017 23:22

Maybe pop over to the moneysavingexpert site. They may have some people who can give you some experienced advice

Crusoe · 05/08/2017 23:23

Good idea will try that

OP posts:
SandyDenny · 05/08/2017 23:25

Very odd, was your transfer of £2000 also from Barclays, maybe it's something to do with that?

uggmum · 05/08/2017 23:27

It's probably nothing to do with the car transaction.
It's more likely that some CIFAS info has come up on you.
It might be worth getting a copy of your credit file to see if there's anything unusual on it.
Have you had any other cash transactions. Credits and corresponding debits?
Freezing your account doesn't usually happen without good reason or suspicion.
