One week before the end of term...

...and she's lost her PE kit

She had to do it in her pants today. She's got PE again on Monday - anywhere I can buy a cheap PE kit over the weekend? Seems silly for a new PE kit for one lesson

Charity shops? How strict is school about uniform?

Unless she's in the final year at the school I'd probably buy a new set 2 sizes too big so as to be sure it will last all through next year.

AngeloftheSouth84 · 15/07/2017 00:14

It's not final year - just year 8. They're not too strict, as long as its correct colour. Just a nuisance the last week this happens and I hadn't planned to do uniform shopping!

Obviously I just wanted to avoid her having to do it in her pants again! Just wondered if there were any shops that did cheap shorts and stuff?

What kind of school makes girls do PE in their pants? Is this 1987??

MirandaWest · 15/07/2017 00:49

Sainsbury's has cheap shorts.

If DS forgot his kit (he's in year 8) he'd either have to not do PE or would be directed to the lost property department I should think. I'd be wanting to find out more about a 12/13 year old doing PE in their underwear - have you been in touch with the school?

AngeloftheSouth84 · 15/07/2017 00:59

I just want to get the kit issue sorted out! I don't want to get into an argument about what they wear if they haven't got their kit

zenasfuck · 15/07/2017 01:24

I'd be docking furious about a teen being humiliated and made to do pe in her underwear.
Never mind a new kit, I'd be keeping her off school whilst making a formal complaint

Ellisandra · 15/07/2017 08:39

Bloody hell!
Are you in the UK and Year 8 means age 12?
Is it an all girls school? (I'm clutching at straws why anyone would not be kicking off that a 12yo did PE in their underwear.

I don't really understand your question though. Where to get PE kit over the weekend? Whenever you'd usually get it? if you can't get to the shops, PE shorts on Amazon. Delivered tomorrow.

Chasingsquirrels · 15/07/2017 08:59

Ds1 lost his about 3 weeks before the end of year when he was a yr 8.
I emailed the mum of a yr 11 I know and asked if she was sending his kit to the 2nd hand shop and of so could I buy it off he directly instead.
She said she'd being going to and just gave it to me instead.
Maybe worth a try if you know any yr 11's.

Bobbiepin · 15/07/2017 09:02

Seriously she was made to do it in her underwent? Get straight on at the head and make a complaint. Don't run around getting her a new kit, I would ask for her to be withdrawn from PE. That's disgraceful.

dementedma · 15/07/2017 09:06

Why dont you know where to buy shorts and tshirts? Any supermarket for a start off.

ILoveMyMonkey · 15/07/2017 09:21

Really? Year 8 so 12-13!

It would be a stupid brave UK school to make any child of any age do PE in their pants these days.

Are you sure it was pants and not those knicker short things worn for gym (not sure if they still have those).

stoplickingthetelly · 15/07/2017 09:32

I can't imagine a sch in their right mind would make a 13 year old do PE in their pants! Most have a spare kit box for kids to borrow from when they forget items. Even infant pupils wear a PE kit now.

useristired · 15/07/2017 09:38

Can you just not write her a note to excuse her from PE for what a max of 2 lessons before end of term?
It's a bit off to make a teen/almost teen to do it in underwear in my opinion.
There is no way I'd be buying new now!

Hoppinggreen · 15/07/2017 09:39

I am also slightly baffled by the fact that the parent of a teen does not knew w where to get a pair of shorts from on a Saturday. Supermarket? Sports Direct?
I would also be very surprised if any school would make a teen do PE in their pants

metalmum15 · 15/07/2017 09:40

I really hope pants means some kind of school gym shorts, and not actual underwear. There is no way my teenage dd would be doing pe in her underwear without me kicking up a hell of a fuss. Her school have spare stuff for anyone who forgets their kit. I have to buy proper logoed uniform, surely you can head to Asda/Sainsburys/Matalan etc for basic shorts and t-shirt and make it last for next year?

moomoogalicious · 15/07/2017 09:43

most schools have a spare kit

i can't believe a school would make a y8 (or any child) do pe in their pants

Primadonnagirl · 15/07/2017 09:48

I'm confused. In the time you've taken to start this thread you could have googled a shop near you etc. If you didn't want comments on your situation why tell us? Just go buy the stuff..it's a weekend shops are open!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 15/07/2017 09:55

When you say pants do you mean tracksuit pants or knickers? There's a very big difference!

If Year 8 then she's 13. Making 13 year olds dope in their knickers is certainly ky not ok. Presumably at this time of year all PE lessons are outside, so it's doubly humiliating.

LavenderDoll · 15/07/2017 09:57

Keep her off school and formally complain - making her do PE in her underwear is disgraceful

Moanyoldcow · 15/07/2017 23:26

You're utterly bizarre if your child being made to do PE in pants isn't the first thing you're annoyed about. She's 12/13, not 4/5 and even then I wouldn't like it.

MyCalmX · 15/07/2017 23:32

Wow. Some threads just shock me. You're OK with your yr8 dd having to do PE in her underwear?

Seriously fucked up. You and the school Hmm

DeleteOrDecay · 16/07/2017 00:00

Forget the lost kit, I would be fuming about my young teen dd being made to do pe in her underwear! When I was at secondary school in the early 00's if someone didn't have their kit they had to use what was in the lost kit box, grim but much less humiliating.

Approach the school about this, it's not right.

Jamhandprints · 16/07/2017 00:08

Asda of course, under £5. Are you in the uk? How has she got to year 8 without ylu knowing where to get kit from?!

BackforGood · 16/07/2017 00:19

This is a really odd thread.
I assumed you were going to say she was in Reception or something.

OP can you clarify you are actually saying they made a 12 or more likely 13 yr old girl do a PE lesson in her underwear ? It just seems highly unlikely.
Just borrow a pair from the thousands they will have in lost property if you really can't afford to get a pair this weekend.
