Hello all,

I'm really interested in doing this. I've read everything, watched videos, set up a separate bank account. But I'm really nervous about actually starting... any tips?
Oh and pledge can I join your little group?
thank you!

ShinyGirl · 30/05/2017 16:55

We need a new thread, this one takes ages to load now.

louisejxxx · 30/05/2017 19:33

Had a reload come through from sunbets after I signed up last week, said something about because my first bet lost, here's another chance on us. So just done my qualifying bet for that.

SierraJensen · 30/05/2017 21:13

Hi Karcheer, not an expert as only been doing this a short while but I would say my top tips are to double (or triple!) check everything to start with. Read the t&cs for the qualifying bets - what are the minimum odds, do you need to deposit a certain amount and in a certain way (e.g. some sites say a deposit made by paypal won't qualify), is there a minimum amount for a qualifying bet etc.

If you start doing any of the casino offers be aware that although there are a lot of offers which initially look tempting they often carry such high wagering requirements that they probably are not worth bothering with unless they are risk free.

Good luck and enjoy!

SierraJensen · 30/05/2017 21:14

Oh and my other tip is to find a good spreadsheet and keep track of absolutely everything!

Treasures · 31/05/2017 14:34

DH and I started doing this last week, using Profit Accumulator.
Today we got our free £30 bet at Betfred. From the options at PA it seemed best to put it on a horse (had never bet on a horse before).

I put my £30 on at Betfred, on a horse called Doctor Cross at Beverley today at 5pm. Fine.
Then I placed my lay bet at Betfair. My stake was £21.96, with liability of £79.06. After I placed the bet though, I clicked on Open Bets and it showed it had been split into two bets (see screenshot). Does anyone know why this is and if it'll be a problem?

I was thinking of subscribing to oddsmonkey. It seems like a good tool from the reviews I've read. Do you think I'll need a spreadsheet too.

Also do you think I need an actual computer or do you think my iPad and phone will be ok?
I tried to get my old laptop working yesterday for this, but ended up completely breaking it!

Karcheer · 31/05/2017 15:39

Also how much did you start with?
I've £32 pounds that I made on quidco, and I'm wondering if this is enough to get started?

Karcheer · 31/05/2017 15:50

And did you set up a separate email address for it?

louisejxxx · 31/05/2017 17:23

Definitely use a separate email address - purely because it's so much easier than trying to sift through normal emails and matched betting ones. £32 will be enough to do the first signed up I imagine but you'll be waiting around a fair bit for transfers out if all your money ends up in the bookies rather than the exchange.

I think to start with I'd try and do everything on a computer, purely because it's easier and faster to click between things...then once you've got the hang of it, you should be able to change over to using a phone or tablet. The main difficulty is having to switch between screens as fast as possible, which I think is much easier on a computer.

HeyRoly · 31/05/2017 20:52

This thread has gone very quiet, have you all moved over to WhatsApp? I don't really do WhatsApp, but it looks like I might have to!

One thing I'm ashamed to admit - my record keeping is still ATROCIOUS and I don't even keep track of my profits. I have been taking screenshots of all my bets and calculations, but lately haven't even been writing it all down. I have two kids and I'm tired Blush

So I think I need to move over to a spreadsheet but preferably something mobile-friendly as I don't use a laptop. Any recommendations?

Karcheer · 31/05/2017 20:58

Oh no! Are you all going to leave just as I start?

SierraJensen · 31/05/2017 21:31

I use the team profit spreadsheet heyroly and use it on google sheets so I can access it from whatever device I'm on. It's good for the opening offers but I'm not sure if I'll want to move on to something better soon...I might be able to adapt it rather than start afresh.

Karcheer I use a combination of phone/tablet/laptop depending where I am! I think it's easiest to start off with a laptop but if you've got a phone and a tablet you can have one thing on one screen and one on the other. Apparently making bets from a phone is a mug thing to do so it's good to do occasionally even if you are predominantly a laptop user! There are some bookies (LeoVegas) who only give free bets out if you place your qualifying bet on a mobile too.

£32 is enough to start with but it would probably be slow going...but Team Profit reckon you can start with £8 so it's definitely do-able.

ShinyGirl · 31/05/2017 21:36

Are you all on whatsapp?

I'm waiting for this thread to get to 1000 as even with bookmarking it takes ages loading.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2017 21:39

I'm not on whatsapp, can't we keep it here?.

FiveHoursSleep · 31/05/2017 23:55

It seems to be a mixture of both here and WhatsApp. WhatsApp is easier to access from my phone and can get the news of a good offer out there more quickly, I think.

MaidOfStars · 01/06/2017 08:55

waves

Are you all going?

SierraJensen · 01/06/2017 09:13

Yes, whatsapp is definitely good to get an offer quickly but I still like to keep up with this thread too, so not going anywhere!

ShinyGirl · 01/06/2017 09:26

I don't use whatsapp and don't cross over MN and RL either so I'm staying. You've been a great help, Maid, so far.

I've lost track a bit but I think I'm about £600 up so far once everything settles.

SierraJensen · 01/06/2017 10:21

I joined LeoVegas today - they double the odds for your first two five pound bets. Not a huge profit but not bad, and will be interesting to see if they have any decent offers in the future, as they appear a bit different to other bookies (mobile only).

onepidgeyless · 01/06/2017 11:08

Hi everyone

I'm quite new here but I've been doing matched betting for less than a month and I've made about £500 (including matched betting, topcashback and a couple of lucky wins on slots). I haven't joined any of the big matched betting sites like oddsmonkey or profit accumulator, I paid for bonus bagging which is great for a newbie as they tell you where to bet and on on whom and the odds, etc and it is only a one time payment so I thought it was a great start up. I don't work for them but I've found their help invaluable (just trying to introduce myself and explain how I got here!) and once I feel more confident, I might give oddsmonkey a try

HeyRoly · 01/06/2017 11:14

I don't like to mix MN and real life either, which is why I haven't joined the WhatsApp group. So if some of you are sticking around, good Smile

I did the Leovegas offer Sierra and both blooming horses won. Ended up having to send them ID to withdraw £150.

I am still holding out for a lucky slots win. I find them quite alluring (but only in a risk free way!). Still having appalling luck with them Hmm

Doing the Starspins and Jackpot Joy offers ATM. Highly recommend reading up on them via the Oddsmonkey forums, which are more informative than the training guides.

MissFitton · 01/06/2017 11:41

I'm still here too (although I've not been MBing for the last couple of weeks as too much going on IRL)

I've ground to a bit of a halt really, going to do some reading up about reload offers and moving on from sign ups over the weekend then get back into it next week.

SierraJensen · 01/06/2017 11:49

I'm doing starspins too! Have you had any luck HeyRoly? I'm resigned to losing my first tenner (I generally have appalling luck with slots) but hoping to profit from the reload offers. Some folk on OddsMonkey have done extremely well!
