Is there a way I can earn some extra cash on my commute?

I'm not commuting at the moment but will be returning to it soon. 2.5hrs each way on bus & train and whilst I've become good at filling the time I'm wondering if there's a better way? Wondering if I can do something that earns money in that 'dead' time?

Any money-spinning commuters out there to give me a clue? Thanks.

Take calls (on a hands free kit if you're driving) for a phone sex line?

What about those paid survey sites? Not tried them myself but I think I've read on MSE that quite a lot of people do well off them

Hmm considering my current job requires attention to detail (tho can't say what it is as it could out me, being quite specialised) proof reading could work. How would I get into that?

There's a lot of survey sites that are mobile friendly, can pass the time if you're commuting and they do pay pretty well if you qualify for them. I've been doing them for several years now as a fun hobby and made quite a nice little side sum of money and Amazon vouchers

Nah, the train wifi is pretty basic and doesn't allow large file upload & streaming etc. Just basic internet stuff and maybe the odd Facebook photo upload. Is only one point on the whole journey where I get 3G (aside from my start/end destinations) which have 4g

Well the commute itself is a whole other saga. It's part subsidied by my work but only for the next 2yrs so probably will be job hunting at some point. Will need whole new direction too though so a bit daunting!

Sadly not bilingual and no particular specialisms either

Proof reading is hard to get into and usually requires direct experience somewhere to get regular work (imo). And it would be tricky to do well ona commute. But that's just me!

Survey sites and things like swagbucks would be best. Or maybe freelance writing if you had a market (easier to write on the go and proof at home?).

eBay - take pics at home, write up the descriptions on the way in, I always find they take longer than expected.

Or alternatively fill the dead time with one of those free online courses from actual universities (I forget which one does free stuff, I know Coursera offers some courses), or audiobooks or reading, so while it doesn't = profit, it does = learning in some way.

Can't think of any paid work you can do when commuting, but maybe some sort of qualification that will help improve your salary in the long term and use the commute for reading/ research?
