Indeed. The story of Icarus comes to mind.

Melaw21 · 06/03/2016 14:35

Publicly Criticising/highlighting the dubious actions of a person/persons (in print/writtenform) does not constitute libel... They may be advised to look into that a little more before accusing. Equally expressing/sharing a valid opinion based on actual facts and events, and comments made publicly by said individual, does not constitute slander... this is not a dictatorial system, it is a democratic one and free thought and speech is allowed and encouraged here, If you brand yourself as a public figure, you will at times receive 'negative' critiscism. The right response to finding oneself in this situation, Is a calm, measured and honest response to reasonable questions, not an emotional, 'please dont be a bully' type of response, just because others have the gall to express free thought and individuality by publicly disagreeing with you.

Melaw21 · 06/03/2016 14:43

Oh and EC... Lingo alert #hun, its 'Tragicomical' not "comical" around here... You're welcome... 😉

cozietoesie · 06/03/2016 14:44

All of this serves to underline Eye's point about people coming forward. I find it difficult to even begin to estimate how difficult that must be. They deserve such respect and admiration - and Thanks. Smile

BottingCage · 06/03/2016 14:44

Too true cubic, and that's the achievement of you guys.

stopfaffing · 06/03/2016 14:53

Hate this emotional blackmail stuff Angry...

Eyespying · 06/03/2016 14:54

cozietoesie In my youth, I studied classical myths, because of my involvement in the art trade.

I feel sure you know that the myth of Icarus flying too close to the sun, is part of a much larger allegorical myth involving a human-eating monster and a labyrinth.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2016 15:00

It hadn't occurred to me to be honest but I take the point. The Daedalus connection? Smile

Eyespying · 06/03/2016 15:06

In the myth, Icarus' father, Daedalus, is a Greek genius who is paid by the King of Crete to sculpt a life-like statue of a cow to fool a rampaging bull sent by a God to punish the King for boasting. Daedelus is then obliged to build a labyrinth to contain the human-eating Minotaur, which is the product of the union of the Bull with the daughter of the King, who had hidden inside the statue. The King imprisons Daedelus and Icarus in their own labyrinth so that they won't divulge its secrets, but they escape by making wings with feathers and wax.

cozietoesie · 06/03/2016 15:10

I guess we should, perhaps, start referring to him as iicarus? As a symbol of hubris? Grin

BottingCage · 06/03/2016 15:18

stopfaffing

You could make £200-2000 per month extra. You could also find 2 million in your backyard. The odds are comparable.

MrGrumpy01 · 06/03/2016 15:18

stop I really hate that one too. The emotional blackmail is unreal.

Eyespying · 06/03/2016 15:20

cozietoesie The point I was making was that this ancient myth seems to be an allegory of religion or ritual belief - a mystifying man-made prison from which there is no escape, not even for those who have constructed it.

Acrobatic22 · 06/03/2016 15:21

Sorry, not related to the article, but I think it's funny how this bot puts in the video description that this isn't a medical claim!!

cozietoesie · 06/03/2016 15:25

I see. A timely thought.

Bovnydazzlers · 06/03/2016 15:26

before the ST article, I'd have guessed EC was going to wait till she got Chairman's bonus next month before jumping ship. I'm presuming this will still be the case, but this new development may change things.

I presume she'll realistically be up for a cheque £100k-£300k?

Patzy85 · 06/03/2016 15:41

EC has posted a picture of herself alongside her mother in which she looks, without being disrespectful, incredibly tired.

I think that the wheels are starting to come off. Ariix (as cubic said) most likely won't be wanting her now as the shining poster girl. She could be a riches to rags story. Chewed up and spat out by MLM.

I feel though that in true FL style, they will strike this off as being 'bad eggs' and pockets of bad practice. In reality we know that this is what is not only what is sold to them, but what they're trained to do and say.

It angers me that former public servants argue that Forever et al are more fulfilling jobs/earn more money. "Don't be that pointless teacher / doctor / nurse / police officer but come and join this bizarre company instead"

Patzy85 · 06/03/2016 15:50

In the case of the nurse or midwife who has recruited their own patients, is that not breaking the law or at the very least the NHS 's code of conduct?

Acrobatic22 · 06/03/2016 15:52

First steps to manager has been updated so it doesn't include the medical bit, but our training site, Forever Knowledge, still tells us we can talk about the health benefits as long as we don't write them down!

Patzy85 · 06/03/2016 15:53

Twunk- I agree, but I think it works two-fold.

These people are deemed professionals so it adds to the legitimacy of the company.

It also is a perfect target market - public sector workers are stretched, poor pay, long hours and little recognition. Desperate for more money and time to spend with family.

Patzy85 · 06/03/2016 16:11

This shocks me. A very clear, large advertisement of Aloe Vera gel in an NHS publication (2015).

Is this allowed? Obviously this FL distributor has some links to the NHS.

eyes what do you make of this?
