A fifteen year old girl with a previous record of being arrested for various 'small' crimes including shoplifting and drunk & disorderly is caught on CCTV setting fire to a wheely bin full of rubbish and wheeling it up against the back door of a large high street store. The subsequent fire caused approx £250,000 of damage (also loss of takings in the week before Christmas as the shop could not re-open). Very luckily no-one was hurt as it was in the middle of the night.
Hypothetically what would happen to this girl?

I want to know who you were, MW...

curiosity · 22/12/2006 23:13

ooh, forgot the thread started off seriously.

Callmemadam · 22/12/2006 23:14

Well, in the meantime.....I did bother to post a response to YorkshireWenceslass that I hoped might be helpful: I turn round to find a catfight going on

SaggarClaus · 22/12/2006 23:18

Further thread hijack - Callmemadam - any idea what a 12 year old convicted of manslaughter would get sentence wise? Nice family, no previous, pleaded not guilty .

unknownrebelbang · 22/12/2006 23:56

Oh, I think I know the incident you're referring to Saggar.

Tragic incident if it's the same one.

TurkeyTrotter · 23/12/2006 00:09

MW has a Xenia- esque feel

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 23/12/2006 00:10

What is Xenia actually famous for? Let me scroll back and peruse...

SaggarClaus · 23/12/2006 09:11

They are both friends of my dd unknown - the little boy who died was one of her best friends and the other a classmate. She's still so sad about her friend and now his worried about what will happen to the other boy too

MerryPiffmas · 23/12/2006 14:21

xenia could not say with any force that I love her.
Am quite sure - should she think I do, I'd like to remove that illusion forthwith
I do not spread my virtual love far and wide you see...

Callmemadam · 23/12/2006 20:22

OMG Saggarclaus - no, I would only be guessing . The factors that will influence the sentencing judge will be: the age of the defendant, the circumstances surrounding the death, and the extent to which she KNEW her actions could possibly result in the death of another. That last one is a tricky call given the fact she is 12, but she is still over the age of criminal responsibility. My guess, and it IS only a guess is that she will either receive a short detention and training order OR a very long period of supervision with conditions, but without hearing the facts of the case it is difficult to assess what the appropriate sentence would be. How tragic

Callmemadam · 23/12/2006 20:23

Sorry, for 'she' read 'he'!

flack · 23/12/2006 21:25

can someone point me to a thread that says why Cod left?

Am a bit horrifed bout the girl YorkshireW posted about. I guess stuff like that happens. I'm just so happily naive.

Why wouldn't the 15yo girl be asked to do lots of community service, at least? Though I imagine she's very messed up.

SaggarClaus · 23/12/2006 22:04

Thanks callmemadam. It's just awful .
