lying for loan/credit card (unemployed) - money to help my health (can pay it back in few months)

Hi,

So I need to get about £1500 for something that will help my health.

I had a job but am currently unemployed, living with parents. I was going to apply for either a loan through my bank or credit card (but most limit at 1200). I need to lie & say I am either a student or self employed.

I am not sure what is the besy way to go. Have been reading martins money to try & figure it out. Any advice on best way to get approved for money?

Btw there is no one I can ask & really don't want to lie but am desperate and will have money in a few months to repay it back

I know this isn't a great idea, and could be silly. I was reading articles that alot of people do.

Any help recommended, thankyou :)

Can I ask what is going to change in 8 weeks? Is it something that could potentially happen sooner?

Walkingintheraindrops · 04/01/2016 18:28

Where could you live for 2 months though?

MadisonMontgomery · 04/01/2016 18:29

Sorry, just seen that you will have a job & accommodation in 8 weeks. TBH I think you would struggle to rent somewhere for that short amount of time - could you look for a house share or something maybe?

NotDavidTennant · 04/01/2016 18:31

When you apply for a loan or credit card you generally have to tell them your income. Unless you're willing to lie and makeup an income then I don't think you'll get very far with any mainstream lenders.

expatinscotland · 04/01/2016 18:31

Perhaps look at a flat sit/share.

It's going to be hard to find a place to rent for 2 months, tbh.

yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:31

madison - was going to rent for 8 weeks, but need money to pay for rent for 8 weeks. So thats why I would need a loan or overdraft.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/01/2016 18:33

That is a helluva a debt to pay back.

yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:34

I found somewhere today but just need the money to cover me for 8 weeks

Overdraft would be quicker.

P1nkP0ppy · 04/01/2016 18:40

Would your parents either lend you the money or act as guarantor?

yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:41

it's a debt but one that i can pay back

OP posts:
yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:42

can i extend an overdraft being unemployed?

probably not for my parents

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/01/2016 18:44

You can try.

yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:47

will it go against my credit score if i try?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/01/2016 18:47

Don't think so. Ring your bank, most have customer service lines open till 8pm or later.

Lightbulbon · 04/01/2016 18:48

You can get loans as a student or unemployed it's just that you will get charged higher interest.

yougotthelove · 04/01/2016 18:52

lightbulbon - i didnt want to take something too high like a pay day loan, could i get one from a bank.

if i go for the overdraft, when it says monthly income, is it worth putting a few hundred or nothing?

OP posts:
NotDavidTennant · 04/01/2016 18:57

In your shoes I would make an appointment to go into your bank to see someone in person, take in proof of your new job and when you'll be starting and see if they'll increase your overdraft for you. Be prepared for the possibility of 'computer says no' though.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 04/01/2016 19:09

Your bank statements surely show a dwp payment?

yougotthelove · 05/01/2016 10:37

no dwp on bank statements - should have got them but never meant to be unemployed for a long length of time

if i apply for overdraft & say unemployed, do you think i will be automatically rejected?

Yes.

Think about it logically- you'd be asking them for money whilst stating you have no means of repaying it.

Lenders have very strict lending criteria and have to act responsibly- lending someone without a job money is not responsible.

You can't lie about having a job as you need to complete the details about your employment and these could be verified.

It sounds like you are going yo have to sit tight for the 2 months until you can afford to make the payments.

N3wYear2016 · 05/01/2016 21:21

You could try something like this www.capitalone.co.uk/creditcards/secure/find-my-card.jsf

Can you get a temporary job before March ?

I would strongly advise against lying, it will come back to bite you in the future if you want to borrow more money

Rockchick1984 · 07/01/2016 09:38

If you have excellent credit history and money going through your account regularly then you would probably be able to get away with doing this. Unfortunately given the circumstances you describe there's unlikely to be any way to borrow the money without it costing you a small fortune in interest.

Whatever you took, you would have to make repayments on within a month or so, how would you do this? You will also have living expenses to pay if you move out, do you have any way to pay these?

I don't know your backstory but from what you've said it seems like your only option will be to stay put for now, unless you can find someone to be a guarantor for you, or who can lend you the money themselves.
