I am fuming mad with my ex partner! He hasn't paid any maintenance in the last three months. He promised to do it this week but failed again! I have spent all my savings in surviving and now I don't have enough money to pay the rent (which is due tomorrow, but hopefully won't go out until Monday!)

Here is my situation:

  • can't count on relatives
  • can't trust my ex (that is why I am like this!)
  • I have a credit card but I believe it would be super expensive to get all the cash for the rent out, plus I am afraid that will ring some some of alert and will affect my credit rating
  • I don't qualify for any benefits (have checked)

This is such a messed up situation, I have never been late in any payments, least of all the rent!

Would hugely appreciate any advice.

That turn to us site is brilliant. Putting in rough estimations ive just discovered I'm entitled to about 40% of my rent paid through HB!

great news that immediate problem is solved, no need to tell landlord as he is getting rent on time. (And I'm a landlord).

If you get one-off rent payment problems, ALWAYS pre-empt by telling the landlord, with a plan for when you will be paying and a plan to stop it happening again. It is when there is no rent and no communication that alarm bells ring for landlords.

now you have some breathing space, time for a longer-term plan. Which may involve some harsh decisions but at least you don't have to make them in a hurry.

as you know - never withdraw a cash advance on a credit card, hugely expensive.

Hi I'm new to this. I had an attachments to my earnings for my council tax. Every week it shows on my pay slip that money has been taken out for it. Last Fri I had a letter from bailiffs for non payment, so I rang my local council and asked why it had been sent to bailiffs when my employer has been taking the money out of my wages each wks. The lady at the council said That they haven't revived a penny from my boss. What do I do it seems my employer has taken it from my wages and kept the money but now I have bailiffs in my case!! Please help

Hi besty.
You need to firstly check that you and the council are talking about the same liability order. Assuming that is the case then show your payslips to the council so they can see deductions have been made and ask them to take it up with your employer.
You also need to talk to your employer andttell them to send the money to the council immediately. Also ask the council to put bailiff action on hold while they investigate.
Ultimately your employer is acting illegally if they deduct but don't send on the money.
Good luck.
