stressedoutmum10 · 22/09/2014 11:42

Hi I'm wondering if any one has any ideas where I can go for help I was evicted this week with my young son due to rent arrears yes I no my fault but the reason being I was working and not making enough to pay rent went to the job centre and was told I wasn't entitled to help etc so ended up in a mess with rent
I was evicted Friday I have secured another property but all my wages had to go on rent and bond for this house as can't get any help
I'm wondering if there's any where apart from food banks that offer help I put what I had left on electric and gas but I'm worried it's going to run out I have bits in the cupboard ie pasta and sauce ,spaghetti hoops
Have sausages in freezer and a pizza .cereals .i only get paid again in 3 weeks my tax credits is currently under review I've had an apparant overpayment I have appealed there decision but waiting for a reply . I should get child benefit tommorow but bank is overdrawn so so not going to be able to access it .
Worried sick feel like such a failure .cab have told me I won't be given food voucher as I'm intentionally homeless as it's down to me I have arrears .i don't have any family in a possition to help me out .i have asked my boss for an advance but they don't do this .im sorting things out to sell but there's not going to be much any one any other ideas where I can get help sorry for long first post I just need some advice been a horrible week I'm going in t the bank tommorow to see if they will take the charges of my account so I can access my child benefit

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 22/09/2014 18:38

have you applied for working tax credit?

How old is you son?

Get in touch with health visitor or childrens centre about food bank they will be more helpful

Imnotaslimjim · 22/09/2014 18:43

Ok, first of all, contact the bank, now. As far as I can remember, they can't use benefit payments to pay off an overdraft. Explain the situation with the tax credits, and that you'll begin a better position in a couple of weeks once its sorted. Ask if paying it back in instalments is an option
I've been in big trouble money wise and banks aren't ogres

LIZS · 22/09/2014 18:47

Call the Money Advice service . Can you claim HB now ? How old is your dc ?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/09/2014 20:58

Surely a church run foodbank would help?.

Have you got a local food bank? If you have, just go there and explain your situation. I volunteer in a food bank and we would never turn anyone away.

LIZS · 23/09/2014 09:02

If he gets a FSM at lunchtime now can you offer a lighter tea. Can you borrow enough for bread, jacket potatoes, milk etc or Milk and More will deliver on account .

AmyMumsnet · 23/09/2014 09:18

Hi everyone,

We do advise all our members to be aware that not everyone on t'internet is who they say they are, and that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

Really sorry to hear what a rubbish time you're having OP, we hope things sort themselves out soon.

Thanks.

stressedoutmum10 · 23/09/2014 09:34

Hi just on way to the bank now so I'll report back with what they say .yes he is getting free school meals now as he's in year 1 and everyone's now entitled .ill be ringing tax credits to to see how long there going to take
Not sure about borrowing as it will be 2-3 weeks before I can pay back and not sure anyone could lend me I will ask though if the bank don't refund the money .i have just counted the copper jar I have £1.87 so I can get a milk and loaf I think with that .
Was told they won't give me one as it's my own fault but my freind said the doctor will give me one so I'm trying to get an appointment today
I'm sure it will get better as I said I'm only in this possition after being evicted and having to pay out for a house but I'm thankful I have a home and I guess at this moment in time it could be a lot worse thanks for all the replys I'll comment when I've been in the bank

Hope you get it sorted OP. You can't just turn up to our local food bank - you have to be referred. However, your health visitor or children's centre may well be able to refer you.

Even a church run foodbank may be limited to referrals, but your local church may have an emergency fund, which is to help people in exceptional circumstances. If what you are asking is for a small, reasonable amount (£25?) to help to tide you over, you could approach them. You don't have to attend the church to ask. You could find the email address of the local priest (they will have a website) and ask if there is anything they can do to help.

atticusclaw · 23/09/2014 09:49

If you go to a sikh gurdwara they will feed you and your son.

Do you have any boots card points, sainsburys nectar points?

I'd also speak to the school and ask if they would feed your DS for a few weeks. I know our school would certainly make him some toast for breakfast and a sandwich to take home for tea if you can't feed him. They don't have to but they would.

stressedoutmum10 · 23/09/2014 10:10

Hi not sure if there's are in our area I'm waiting in the bank to chat to an advisor whilst googling other options thank god for mobile internet hey
I don't really want to tell school at the moment I'm worried with me being evicted etc they wil think I'm a terrible mum
I get child benefit again on Tuesday which can go on food and hopefully the doctor can give me a food voucher .my son has snack at school
Toast and milk then his dinner I have some bits in for him for tea for a few nights I have cereal for him for breakfast I think I'm just panicking hopefully the bank take the charges of today

OP posts:
stressedoutmum10 · 23/09/2014 10:39

Right so the bank are saying they have no obligation to give me back chArges regardless of it being my sons money (child benefit ) but as a gesture of good will they will refund one charge which is 6 pounds I think so I have 6 pounds available in my account I think I can use my card in a shop with that .
I'm going to go home and see what it's cupboards etc i may have enough for son until Tuesday I think I'm panicking to much as I said .but 6 pound better is than no pounds .ill put a list up if ok and maybe some one could help meal ideas I'm useless sometimes thanks

Valpollicella · 23/09/2014 10:47

Def put a list up of what you have and I'm sure posters will be able to advise what else to get to make it last as much as possible.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/09/2014 10:49

Try and open a basic bank account with another bank, divert all your income into it & benefits.

I had to do that when first direct let me run up a £3000 od (long story).

Then you can at least keep what you earn and pay the od off when you can.

atticusclaw · 23/09/2014 11:40

We can definitely work out the best way to spend your six pounds to supplement what you have and feed you both until Tuesday. Post the list of what you have in your cupboards, fridge and freezer.

SoonToBeSix · 23/09/2014 11:45

If you buy some onions you have the base for spag Bol, a kind of chilli with the beans and sausage in tomato sauce along with pasta. maybe get some potatoes and have baked potatoes. I lived off them as a student and you can have with the fish fingers one night, the lattice another with them.

longtallsally2 · 23/09/2014 13:52

Recipes

Buy loo roll (though you can cut newpaper into small squares if needs be) 4 pts milk, economy bread, econ carrots, 6 economy eggs, one more tin of b beans, 2 onions, 4 baking potatoes (preferably from a market stall rather than a supermarket), economy biscuits - total £5.50

Tonight - rice (mix in fried onion and cooked carrot) with fish fingers. Half an apple each evening for your little man plus a whole or half yoghurt depending on how many in your pack.
Weds. Cereal (and toast) for breakfast every day. chicken sandwich for your lunch. Baked potato and baked beans for both for supper
Thurs. chicken sandwich for your lunch. Omlette. carrot sticks, breadnbutter for supper
Fri. Sausage, egg and beans with toast for supper
Sat. Egg sandwiches for lunch. Pasta, with tomato, onion, carrots and mince for main meal (ie spag bol)
Sun Broccoli lattices with pasta and carrot for main meal. Spag on toast for evening.
Mon Fish finger sandwich for you for lunch. Soup and toast for supper.
Biscuits or toast if you need to nibble inbetween.

How does that sound to get you through to Tues - assuming your young man has free school lunches? Monday night is a bit thin but hopefully you will still have £2.50 left over by then, or something left in the cupboard. If you can afford it, you could get a few more economy apples so that you have some fresh veg.

Wish we could do more to help.
