Because i've just had a look at mine and i'm nosey

NW = Assets - Liabilities

Assets include:

Cash (Cash in hand, savings etc)
Investments (Stocks etc)
Personal (house cost, car cost, home furnishings, jewelry etc)
Retirement (Pension etc)

Liabilities include:

Unsecured (Credit card, student loan etc)
Secured (Mortgage, car loan, home equity loan etc)

Mine (which includes my partner as everything is joint so impossible to seperate) came out at +£10,000 (but that doesn't include any pension as i don't have an estimate yet).

Not sure what i think of that to be honest but it killed 5 minutes.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 07/07/2014 09:45

On paper, just shy of £1m

PseudoBadger · 07/07/2014 09:47

Probably about -£10000

monkeyfacegrace · 07/07/2014 09:49

Approx £150,000.

Gabor7G · 07/07/2014 13:20

I wouldn't be able to easily separate my net worth from DH's so this is a joint net worth - we are both in our early forties and both work, although I work PT at the moment. All Approx.

Assets
Savings & Investments: £200K
House £400K
Other Personal £50K
Pensions £400K

Liabilities
Secured: Mortgage £60K
Unsecured: £2K

NW £988K (joint)

So half would be £494K. However, DH earns significantly more than me (even if I was FT) so most of the pension pot and savings/investments are his. So I've no idea what my net worth is! Less than that anyway.

Bumpsadaisie · 07/07/2014 13:31

My net worth is a wing and a prayer!

No, probably if we subtracted liabilities from assets we would have about £10k left over. So half that is £5k.

So we are actually solvent, this is pleasing news!

Gabor7G · 07/07/2014 13:59

You may find this article in the Guardian from just over a year ago interesting rpitchfo.

Obviously, it will be dependent upon age - our household net worth and income at 42 looks very different from what it was at 32, even though our lifestyle hasn't changed much.

What's your networth
SushiForBreakfast · 07/07/2014 14:12

Around £325K

rpitchfo · 07/07/2014 14:33

That is interesting. We are both 28 at the moment so time to build a solid base. But I doubt we will ever hit a million.

OP posts:
monkeyfacegrace · 07/07/2014 14:41

Same rpitchfo, I'm 27 and no pension yet, so not too worried about being a small amount.

Tbf we could all get walloped by a bus tomorrow so as long as we enjoy the hear and now, that's all that I think matters.

monkeyfacegrace · 07/07/2014 14:42

*here even!

ChickenFajitasAndNachos · 07/07/2014 14:49

About half a million, I'm 45. Rpitchfo I had nothing when I was 27, I rented a flat and graduated when I was 27 so had student debt and a 7 year old.

Gabor7G · 07/07/2014 15:33

From the same research, but more specifically for your age group, although you are at the younger end of that:

Among the households headed by people aged 25-34, a tenth had less than £5,000 in assets, while the top 10pc had more than £319,000. The middle wealth among this age group was £76,000

Not from the same source but...

top 20% average age of head of household 57
Middle group average age 51
bottom 20% average age 42

My dad ended up losing all his accumulated wealth, apart from pensions, at the end of his working life (in search of becoming rich!) but is happy and wants for nothing in his one bed rented bungalow. His net worth, age 81, is approx. £8K and whatever is in his pension pots.

foxdongle · 07/07/2014 15:35

equity, pensions, savings and investments - mortgage = about £700k

plus need to check my lottery ticket!

At 28 (now mid 40s) I was paying the mortgage on my first home, which was in negative equity! Things change.
You are at the right age to be making plans.

mumtosome61 · 07/07/2014 15:44

We are 30 and 29 with net worth of £10k. Our home is our investment though - bought in a very poor state from OH's grandfather (low mortgage) and using left over savings plus some borrowed to do it up.

flightdove · 07/07/2014 15:46

Net worth
About 3 million

DefiniteMaybe · 07/07/2014 15:47

Nothing.
Our assets would probably cover our liabilities.

£180,000 for me and DH as everything is joint except ISAs. We're early 30s. Sounds like loads but most of it is equity in the house rather than cash

greeneggsandjam · 11/07/2014 00:49

About £5000. Oh dear.

Eminybob · 11/07/2014 17:22

I think I'd just about break even Sad

ShineSmile · 11/07/2014 17:24

About 3,000. Oh dear. Wouldn't even be enough to pay for my grave. Shock

PrincessOfChina · 11/07/2014 17:29

I think we're about £40k positive but we have huge credit card debts (all 0%) and a reasonable amount if equity in the house. Not including pensions though - I have a good one, DH has nothing.

nowahousewife · 11/07/2014 17:31

Well into 7 figures thanks to the London property market. At 27 we were living in rented and trying like mad to save a deposit for our first house. Now we're nudging 50 so it's taken 20 years, a lot of sacrifice and a few scary moments.

GemmaTeller · 11/07/2014 17:34

Assets - about £100k

Liabilities - none (no credit cards, loans, mortgages, etc )

Mrsgrumble · 11/07/2014 17:39

We own two properties but both are in negative equity, sadly. Probably worth 170 grand.

Will be out of negative equity in less than five years,

I have 20000 cash plus own a decent car.

No debts other than mortgage.
