Vanquis credit cards

Raskova · 18/05/2014 08:34

I had a 1500 debt on my vanquis credit card and was getting charged an extortionate interest rate so I asked my dad to lend me the money and I'd pay him the same minimum payment but it meant that if actually be paying it off and not just the interest.

He paid it with his credit card (29th march) and.told them it was a third party. They tell me everything will be fine, no further action on this and one further call to check up.

Then I receive a letter saying they need a copy of his statement and his card front and back. I send this and am told that's fine. No further action required.

I then call 17th April as I've received a statement asking for my minimum payment. I tell them they have the money. She says the payment is pending and everything will be approved that Saturday as that's their next working day and she sees no reason for it to fail. She also said until it was approved, my account was on hold so I wouldn't receive any fees or have my credit rating affected. I'll admit, I should hVe rang to double check it had gone through.

Last week on Tuesday I received a call from a snotty woman at vanquis telling me my account was 30 days in arrears and I must make minimum payment right that second. My response was 'I hope to god you're kidding, I paid it off in full almost two months ago'. She said it was indeed pending but I still needed to pay up as normal until it was approved. Basically the opposite of what the previous lady said.

My dad rang his credit card company and they hadn't even had request for the payment.

It seems vanquis simply forgot about my payment as it usually takes 6 working days max to clear. I spoke to many operatives last Wednesday and no one knew what actually happened.

All they can tell me is that my credit rating has been affected as I now have a late but not missed payment on my record. But then the next person tells me late doesn't matter, only missed.

My dad has now had to repay and start from the beginning. I will call Monday to see how it's going as now they say three working days but all operatives seem to say different things.

Do you think I have right to complain?

Does a late payment affect credit ratings?

reality
the standing order is controlled by YOU : the same value payment goes off the card each month rather than a percentage of the balance, so as the months go by you pay off more capital .... have a play with the spreadsheet and you can see it on screen

Raskova · 18/05/2014 22:15

I had a point of sale transaction for 40 quid from when my limit was 500. Couldn't cancel it. Well not without a small amount of hassle.

I got a random text one day saying my limit was now a thousand pound more. I swore I'd be careful with it. I then blinked and owed 1500 Confused

Glad you're working. I'm sure it'll get better much quicker than you expect Grin debt isn't bad. Bad management is the issue... So I heard Wink

What happens to the interest if you set up a standing order?

realitygone · 18/05/2014 22:28

I am useless at spreadsheets..

so do I still pay my interest? I am sinking with my capital one card, it is always taking me over and I am starting to get charges

LadySybilLikesCake · 18/05/2014 22:31

I hope you get it sorted, Raskova Thanks It's easy to mount up a debt, I'm going to cut my card up. It was very badly managed when I was sick, I was sleeping so much and I couldn't keep on top of things. I am feeling better now (I was later on diagnosed with MS so the fatigue was an early warning) but my credit is a mess. I've paid most of it off and am still sorting the odd one (water bill mainly). Oh well Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/05/2014 07:01

You still pay the interest, cc lower the min payment gradually so you feel like you owe less.

Tip's way means you are paying off the debt not just the interest.

I think that's how it works anyway.

Cindy34 · 19/05/2014 09:27

With direct debit they would just take the minimum payment.
With standing order, you determine the amount (has to be more than the minimum payment) and so you are paying back the debt faster.

It is like over paying the mortgage. The mortgage company decides on the payment amount but some will let you overpay by a percentage or not limit the amount at all.

Always pay more than the minimum payment.

LadySybilLikesCake · 19/05/2014 10:36

Gotcha. With this one the min payment doesn't always go down, so one month it's £12.23, the month later it's £12.98 for example. When it does go down it's pennies. It would help if my bank allowed me to have a small overdraft.

If you're reading this and are tempted to get one of these cards, don't!

go and have a look at the spreadsheet : it does the maths for you

realitygone · 19/05/2014 20:32

talkin I am no good with them

TalkinPeace · 19/05/2014 20:33

have you looked at it ...
all you need is - from your most recent statement - the balance and the interest rate

Raskova · 19/05/2014 22:37

It's really simple, reality. Even I coped just fine with it. Grin

Absolute ducking bastards.

They have charged me interest for the whole time they've not accepted the payments. This guys a bit thick and not that nice to be honest. Raising complaints referral as we speak.

OP posts:
Raskova · 20/05/2014 18:37

Still fuming about this. The guy set up a complaints referral and says they'll have to listen to the calls but in really not sure what difference that'll make. They need to look at payment dates Angry

Provident! Shock I should have done my homework, I hate the fuckers. My father used to take loans from them for years when I was a child. For years he had loans off them and they took most of his money, they even gave him a loan a week before he died. He was housebound and on constant oxygen. They are parasites who feed off those who can't get credit elsewhere, nothing more than legalised loan sharks who sucked him in. Angry

I've cut my card up and will be paying these fuckers off pronto.

I hope you get it sorted, Raskova. It may help to go to the CAB Thanks

Raskova · 21/05/2014 18:39

Had a call from them today. They still don't really know why the payment got delayed but they've credited me all the interest I shouldn't have been charged and a little extra (like £3) as a goodwill gesture Grin
