Has anyone managed to work out a spreadsheet to give an idea if they will get anything from April?????

I keep reading the thresholds but can't work out how they work?

ScramVonChubby · 27/02/2011 14:40

No, tax credits and quite a lot of other benefits as well. Only exempt ones are DLA (PIP) and acrer's Allowance

CarGirl · 27/02/2011 15:59

I probably could sit and work it out but I'm not confident I understand it 100% althought with the link from Daisy it would be easier - but it's for the current year argh!!!!!!!!!!!!

CS I have glady sent you a message. I shall lay down and have a glass of wine whilst dh make roast dinner Grin

ChasingSquirrels · 27/02/2011 17:26

using the link Daisy gave and the 11/12 rates in my link should help you to work it through.

Have PM'd you back - can I come for roast? :)

CarGirl · 27/02/2011 17:35

It was delicious his first attempt at roast carrots and yorkshire puds too - think I'm out of job!

I've worked it out for us, but we're fairly simple as no where near the top limit and no childcare!

I'm also fairly disgusted that there are no calculators online. Given that the renewals don't start until july, we'll be on month 4 of our new TC amount and will have only a guestimate of what we're getting Confused

CarGirl · 27/02/2011 17:41

Our income went up this year and will go up again next year (returned to work in September) and it just makes it even more complicated.

I need to know whether it's worth me paying salary sacrifice for childcare or not Confused

gillybean2 · 28/02/2011 00:06

bumpybecky the renewals start before July. iirc you have to have it done by July at the latest or they stop your WTC/CTC. I guess the solution is to get your renewal info in as soon as possible this year.

bumpybecky · 28/02/2011 10:01

sorry, forgot it was the deadline then. I know in our case DH's p60 only came a couple of weeks before the deadline the last two years so we were right up to the limit for renewals

is it ok to renew before the p60 arrives using the end of year figures on the last pay slip for march?

ChasingSquirrels · 28/02/2011 10:07

yes, your last payslip figures should be the same as your P60 figures.

DaisySteiner · 28/02/2011 10:12

You can't renew until they send you the forms. I think the calculator on the HMRC website should be updated in April to reflect the new figures so you should be able to get a good idea from that before you renew. In theory your payments from April should be a guesstimate based on the new amounts and your income from the previous year.

Tobytyke · 28/02/2011 10:47

These are for 2010-2011

I think people are asking how they will be affected from April 2011 - 12?

Chil1234 · 28/02/2011 11:15

Can I suggest to everyone on this thread that they go to the HMRC Tax Credits pages and hit the 'feedback' option? I've just done so myself and given them a very low score for the absence of updated tax credit info from April. I've also left comments that if HMRC have to wait until April 6th to refresh their calculator, they could at least give other organisations the information so that they can plug the gap and help families plan ahead.

If enough people do this, we may get somewhere. Thanks

bumpybecky · 28/02/2011 11:30

excellent suggestion Chil feedback link (hopefully!)

ChasingSquirrels · 28/02/2011 12:21

While I do agree it is poor that the HMRC tax credit site can#t do the calculation for 2011/12, the information IS on HMRC web-site though (as linked by me yesterday), so any individual or organisation could find it and do their own calculations.

Chil1234 · 28/02/2011 13:01

Have you tried doing that, though? It's very complex calculation, even if you're more than averagely numerate :) Working out income tax is a doddle by comparison.

ChasingSquirrels · 28/02/2011 13:05

yes I have, if you read through the thread you will see that I have calculated my own previously (finding the info was my problem rather than doing the calculation) and yesterday calculated my own for 2011/12 to see what impact doing extra hours would have, and also calculated the OP's for her.
As I also mentioned I am very numerate and financially literate, and do accept that it isn't the easiest computation in the world. I don't think working out net income (income tax and national insurance computations) is any more difficult - ONCE you have all the relevant Tax Credits info. The links that I and DaisySteiner gave would enable you to do this.

ScramVonChubby · 01/03/2011 14:08

I'm struggling with the calculations and although not dim (MA level) a complex family situation- couple of disbled kids etc- means that I have given up: yet we are the sort that need to plan every penny most (given the scarcity of those pennies).

As chil says, it is poor.

gillybean2 · 01/03/2011 16:43

Just rang the helpline as my re-amended award arrived today and is still wrong. Their phone messages says to visit their website to find out about the changes in April which may affect due to the budget.

It said to go online at www.hmrc.gov.uk/buget2010
Which I did but there's still nothing that gives a definitve answer anywhere that I can see.
So it's all as clear as mud it seems... Confused

Daisy31 · 01/03/2011 23:54

Does anyone know how child maintenance payments will affect the new universal credit payments? Confused

gillybean2 · 02/03/2011 06:53

There's been nothing said on it I don't think. But I can't see it staying that way for long with this Government.

bumpybecky · 02/03/2011 14:36

Daisy they've not given enough detail about Universal credit yet to know. I think it's not starting until 2013 though, so not an immediate worry.

Eddas · 02/03/2011 16:32

THe budget's in a couple of weeks so no doubt we'll hear more then. Can't wait Hmm

DillyDaydreaming · 02/03/2011 16:40

All I know is that out of the blue I am £90 down this month and apparently they tell me this is right. I have had no change of circumstances and it appears they may have been overpaying me each month. I've no problem with them taking it back but it would have been nice to have some notice.

Mine went down £80 odd this month too. I did have a change in circumstances though. But it was only my childcare costs going down by £5 a week.
They're taking the £80 plus another £37 off next month they've now said Hmm

Am still trying to get hold of anyone on their change of circumstances helpline about the other adjustment too which they haven't processed yet but should mean it goes up a bit.
The answer phone says the office is open till 4.30pm. I don' get home till 4pm and try ringing then and just can't get through. So I rang the standard helpline number today only to be told the other office closes at 4pm each day, not 4.30 like the message says! Angry

Am just glad it's near to April and will get sorted out properly soon. This is why I hate mid year changes!
