I'm sure I pay too much with BT

I think I pay 19.80 for calls & 16.80 for broadband

But I think there is an offer on the website for calls & broadband for £28

Is that right? Am I confused?

I am confused too as I have similar!
The advert says it is for new customers, so I'm assuming too lazy to look at it in much detail but finances getting to the point I may well do it doesn't include me.
Might be a good reason to swap provider though!

KatyMac · 21/02/2011 08:05

Lovely to see loyalty rewarded, but the website isn't very clear (IMO) so we could both be wrong

.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/02/2011 08:33

BT are very expensive. We use Sky. £7 a month broadband-which uses to BT exchange Hmm we cancelled our television last month but that was £17 a month, so it wasn't too steep. Saying that add on line rental and bang you're straight in the £30 mark again.

Now it's just 17 a month inc line rental (+ tv licence Hmm )

LIZS · 21/02/2011 08:33

We're similar. The offers are usually limited for a few months and to new customers. Agree loyalty reward would be nice .

LurksAscending · 21/02/2011 08:39

We recently swapped from BT to SKY after BT put our monthly payment up to £73/month.

They did this with no warning and took the money on Christmas Eve. When challenged the very nice lady on the phone told me it was too much and that I should call my bank and have them pull the money back.

When I rang to cancel my contract BT said my bill had risen because I made some expensive phonecalls (1 call to DP in Spain which cost £5)

I explained that I didn't mind paying what I owed but I didn't understand how 1 phone cal could push my monthly direct debit up by £30.

They could not explain either.

BT reallly wind me up!!!

LadyOfTheManor · 21/02/2011 08:41

*the not to

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 08:47

Katy sounds like you have an Anytime call plan.
Line rental is £13.60 and Anytime £5 a month.
Is this something that you use as you can get Free Evening & Weekend Plan? That would knock a bit off.
If I were you I would call the BT Cust Options team saying you are thinking of leaving. They have deals that will 'save' you.

KatyMac · 21/02/2011 08:48

I thought I got free all the time calls

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 08:50

Anytime plan is £5 a month extra. You could have had a deal that was free for first three months but the £19 odd charge leads me to think you're paying for it!

KatyMac · 21/02/2011 08:51

The problem is I have been with them so long; I don't really want to change (all to do with email addresses)

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 08:55

The Broadband deal you are on sounds like an old deal too. Let me do some asking and will get back to you.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/02/2011 09:11

If you've been with them for "so long" demand some customer loyalty. You can always set up a FWD system to a new email address.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 09:38

You can't set up a fwd as they close down your BT internet address. You can however pay £1.50 a mont to keep it if you move elsewhere.

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 09:38

KDDD can you ask for me too please!?

I have a very old broadband deal and only unlimited evening and weekend calls (the price of which went down in dec). I know I should be able to get a better deal still, but don't want to move. We have no option for cable out here either and I picked a higher broadband deal (way Back) because the computer is connected 24/7 and we do a lot of gaming so am assuming have a high usage.

Last time I phoned to change something I got put through to the Indian call centres with people trying to cancel my broadband rather than just change it (when I wanted a hub) and after being transfered numerous times with very hard to understand accents (sorry but they are and they ignore requests to talk slower) it puts me off calling them! Maybe that's the point Hmm I just want it to be simple and pain free.

Currently I pay:
Broadband £25.99 a month (includes home hub)
Unlimited weekend/evening plan (including line rental) recently reduced to £16.28 per month
Plus phone calls on top and a £4.50 quarterly payment fee (even though I pay the bulk of my bill monthly by bank transfer.

so £42.27 a month for line rental/braodband and evening/weekend calls! I know there must be a better deal to be had with BT!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 10:02

I will do. It will be generic advice though.
First thing I would say is set up a whole bill or monthly DD.
Have you had a look to see if BT Infinity is available in your area yet? Similar price for a better speed.

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 10:15

It's not available. I looked before when they first started advertising it. Took years to get broadband out here, doubt that will be coming any time soon...

I used to have a DD set up and would pay the bill as soon as it came in so they never took it as a DD. I cancelled the DD (hate the things) and paid/pay by bank transfer. However they confused me with teh bill one time and I though I had paid it but there was a difference outstanding which when they tried to pay by DD got refused. Since then they cancelled the DD thing and I can't be arsed to argue the toss with them over it. Am thinking it's time to vote with my feet though.

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 10:15

DD being Direct Debit not Dear Daughter (in case anyone was confused!) Grin

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 10:46

Hmm, that link just tries to get me to sign up for a £5.20 a month BT total broadband mobile. It gives no other advice when you refuse it and wants you to complete a survey saying why you didn't accept it!

This is why I have companies that don't give you their best deals and make it almost impossible to find out what is their best offer...

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 10:47

have = hate

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 10:53

How long have you had your Broadband for? If it's longer than 18 months and you haven't renewed then you are out of contract. Therefore you could sign up to one of the bundles on bt.com.

KatyMac · 21/02/2011 11:30

Since about umm actually I don't know it's been years landline then broadband but I have ever had a hub from them (I quite fancy one)

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2011 11:34

If you have never had a hub then you must be out of contract. I would ring 150 sales and ask about their deals or just sign up on line. You should get one of the new super duper Hub 3s.
