I'm sure I pay too much with BT

I think I pay 19.80 for calls & 16.80 for broadband

But I think there is an offer on the website for calls & broadband for £28

Is that right? Am I confused?

Shh she might not want to admit it (BT might be funny with her)

Sorry to hijack your thread Katy (hopefully we'll both be better off with some help)

KDDD I know my contract is up. I have the old style hub and I started getting cold calls from them to renew ages ago and I NEVER buy anything over the phone and told them to write to me with their offer if they were genuinely from BT (which they never did).

KatyMac · 21/02/2011 12:25

KDDD is just an interested bystander who can decipher the BT website Wink

Hijack away, all info is good info Grin

If you are all out of contract then I would definitely shop around. BT is not that competitive for Broadband deals but it does have a good BBand offering if that makes sense. The new hub is fantastic as well.
Plusnet are BT owned and cheaper. My FIL uses them and really rates the service. They are also trialling a new fibreoptic service for high users.
If you keep your line rental with BT then you can normally apply for premium email and pay £1.50 per quarter to keep your BT address.

I am with AOL (a bit like marmite - you either love them or hate them!) and pay £6.99 per month for unlimited broadband AND unlimited anytime phone calls (not international or mobile). I pay my phone line separately to BT (about £14 or £15 a month I think)

gillybean2 · 21/02/2011 19:28

sorry but I would never change to AOL, not even if it was free. Glad you're happy with them though

I spoke to a really friendly BT sales person back in October who tried really hard to get me on the best rate available - my bills plummeted for a quicker (well, in theory anyway) line. Excluding line rental, I pay £15.98 per month for broadband option 2 and unlimited anytime calls. I paid 12 months line rental in advance (£113.88) to save on that. It amazed me how much money I could save just by having a conversation with the same supplier. I saved a whack on my gas & electricity as well, simply by switching to a different plan online with my existing provider.

KatyMac · 23/02/2011 11:05

Well I have cut it by 5.40 a month

& I have been told how to reduce it further as a lot of calls are to OFSTED (0300) & they cost me money

& we are discussing the BT vision thing, but DD isn't keen as there is no Disney

Well done!

Just found this thread. I actually rang BT yesterday as thought I was paying too much for phone, broadband and BT Vision.
Eventually got put through to a very helpful lady in Glasgow, who after checking all prices, came up with a new monthly charge of £30.80 per month for everything - £15 per month less than I was paying! Well worth the phone call!
I'm wondering what else I can save money on. Doing a quick comparison check it seems I would be better off having a water meter instead of paying water rates. Any onther MNers changed to a meter and saved money?
Also have my gas and electric suppliers in sight - will be giving them a ring this week.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/02/2011 17:57

Well done Katy!
We have a water meter and have saved money. Now is the best time to switch energy supplier as all of the prices have just changed. Online deals are the best and have a look at the fixed ones.

gillybean2 · 27/02/2011 23:45

You got to speak to someoene in Glasgow? Really!? Hmm, so maybe they put you through to someone you can understand if there's a chance of losing a customer then. I always end up in Indian call centres. Including just a couple of weeks ago trying to fix a fault with my broadband Hmm

expatinscotland · 28/02/2011 00:05

They're bastards. But they were all we could get out here till very recently, till Virgin Media came along about 4 months ago, so we're on an 18-month contract till May.

Robbing bastards.

But they all are.

People just take it lying down here, the way they do petrol taxes and any other set of taxes, so it will continue.

tink123 · 28/02/2011 00:28

If your contract is due for renewal ring them and tell them you want to leave.

We got ours reduced from £25.99 to £10 per month for top level of broadband. That is for full years contract
