How much do you spend on your childs winter wardbrobe?

With autumn winter approaching its time to buy dd3 1/2 some new clothes. Last year I spent around £100.00 I think, mainly in H&M, plus coat and shoes/wellies, hat, etc. Does this sound to much. Just wondered what everyone else did. Of course if I had loads of spare cash I would just buy everything in the Boden catalogue. I have bought a coat from there which with the 10% off and free postage came out at £34.00.

kaloo20 will look out for your stuff on ebay as am always on the lookout for good clothes on ebay for my two! my ds2 is 3.5 so am starting to look for bigger clothes for him now.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 12/09/2005 23:27

I wish I knew about ebay last year,I gave three binbags away of nearly new next/designer clothes that my dd had grown out off!!

vickiyumyum · 12/09/2005 23:29

lilsmum · 12/09/2005 23:29

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 12/09/2005 23:35

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 23:36

As little as possible as he is growing so much..... anyone need any jeans/jumpers/shirts/shoes?

deedledum · 13/09/2005 11:33

I just picked up a fab suede sheepskin lined winter coat for my 16 month old for a £1 at the local car boot sale!

Lucycat · 13/09/2005 13:12

Lonelymum, where do you hear about these nearly new sales? Firstly I can't remember the last time I bought ANY clothes full price so one would be great, I also have loads of clothes to get rid off!!

Why is there lots of stuff on ebay for little ones (under 12mths) but nothing for 2-3 year olds? Is it beacause they trash them?

Lucycat · 13/09/2005 13:48

hellooooooo?

Passionflower · 13/09/2005 13:52

Brilliant idea about selling on the stuff on ebay. Is it complicated?

Didn't think 600 was OTT for three kids though, I don't do handing down shoes cause all three girls have different width fittings so shoes alone are 90 (clarks or startrite. I've had to buy DD3 trousers as D's 1&2 trashed them and the waist elestic went.

I do care about clothes, mainly cause I was picked on at school for having dodgy dress sense and don't want it to happen to my babies.

NomDePlume · 13/09/2005 13:57

Probably about £200 on DD. The DSs wear pretty much the same stuff all year round (sportwear, yuck) so they don't have a winter wardrobe, as such. We just top up their existing sweatshirts etc and they get a couple of pairs of trainers over the season, which probably amounts to about £200 for the 2 of them, all in.

spidermama · 13/09/2005 13:59

As little as possible.
I dig around in boxes to see what fits from previous years or previous children, I comb ebay and the second hand shops for bargains and I hope friends with bigger kids will pass stuff my way.

Lonelymum · 13/09/2005 16:22

Lucycat, you could try the NCT website. I am sure each local group advertises their sales there. Then once you have sold at one sale, they keep you informed of future sales. I have recently moved and happened to see a playgroup was doing a nearly new sale (saw the ad in the local community magazine that is published monthly) Again, I sold stuff there and now I am on their list to sell at future sales. Other than that, it is a question of looking at for flyers, eg on supermarket boards, or looking in the local paper. I don't know where I would be without nearly new sales, both as a buyer and a seller. Plus, getting the stuff ready for each sale is a bit of fun too! (sad I know!)

Lucycat · 13/09/2005 19:59

Many thanks for that Lonelymum! Really useful. I may well be back to pick your brains as to the best ways to 'market' your stuff! I love selling stuff, in some ways it's more exciting than buying!

Lonelymum · 13/09/2005 20:27

Me too Lucycat. I sometimes think about gong round jumble sales and picking up decent stuff for pennies simply to sell it on again at a nearly new sale. If you are careful, there is no difference in quality between what you find in jumble sales and what you find in nearly new sales but the price is very different.

pootlepod · 13/09/2005 20:47

I think it would be about £10. I buy most bits as and when I see them in charity shops. Also pick out the best of hand-me-downs. But there's a NCT sale coming up so the budget could well double!

Vaunda · 13/09/2005 22:00

Reading through these postings I have begun to feel like a nasty mummy......
DS is 7 and in 10-11 yr old clothes (not funny ok!!!! lol) and a size 1 1/2 - 2 shoe.
I was looking through his wardrobe earlier after i began reading this and now feel like crap....
he has a wardrobe and chest of drawers full of clothes which in total have not cost me more than £40 and that is including summer/ winter clothes.
My ds lives in mainly 2nd hand clothes as do i and DH, soz peeps i love charity shops and boot sales lol.
The only thing i but new is his school uniform and even then i don't spend a fortune.
Last winter i bought him 7 jumpers for £6 off of ebay all designer.....
ohhh well best get meself off to the shops and spend money i can't afford so he is not all in 2nd hand clothes i must be nasty.

MrsSpoon · 13/09/2005 22:41

Not nasty at all, everyone has to work with the finances they have at their disposal. When DS1 was little we barely had any money for clothes and I dressed DS1 very nicely out of charity shops, Tesco and ASDA sale and Adams 70% off sales (the really old stuff that they were struggling to shift), I was always really proud of my finds and DS2 is getting use out of alot of them now.

MrsSpoon · 13/09/2005 22:43

BTW get the violins out, when DS1 was little I only had one pair of trousers that fitted (stretchy M&S black bootlegs) and if they needed washing (nearly every day as he was a sicky baby) I used to wash them in the evening, change into my PJs, and dry them on the radiator.

Passionflower · 13/09/2005 23:14

Not nasty at all, you've got to work with what you've got. I probably went a bit mad this year cause it's the first year that we've really had any spare cash. Also at 5 DD1 is starting to show an interest in clothes and DD2 3 is copying her sister in this. When I first went SAHM DM bought them most of their clothes.

piffle · 13/09/2005 23:22

oh yeah as well as decking dd out in Boden... (Resale really helps cannot stress that enough honest)
Forgot DS's unifrom for grammar school has cost us in excess of £400 and not including his shoes that we will need.
Crikey.... no wonder dh has that furrowed brow.
