Is anyone interested in joining me in a new book circle?

Brief explanation for those who have not done it before, copied from one of the first circles via flame:

  1. Get 12 members (one for each month of the year).

  1. Decide if you have any banned genres (chick lit/mis lit etc)

  1. Decide a date each month you post books.

  1. Make the members into a list to show who posts to who (post the the person after you on the list).

  1. Exchange addresses (PMs to the person above you in the list to give them your address, and the person below you to get the address to post to)

  1. Post book (pref with MN name written in it!)

  1. Read, enjoy and comment on that book's thread

I'm a newbie so will stand in reserve?

I'd say just go with 14!

We did 13 last time I think. It doesn't cause a huge problem, just takes longer than a year. It is very rare for no one to drop out in that time. With the best will in the world, peoples circumstances do change in that time, and sometimes it just isn't possible to keep going.

MrsHelsBels...these clubs do restart throughout the year. I'd say wait until you've had the baby and join one then if you find it easier than expected, or wait a little longer and do it when you are more confident you will have the time. The easiest baby in the world prevented me from reading much at all one year!

OK. Everyone choose a book, and pm the person above you on the list to give them your postal address.
The book itself is kept as a surprise. Can we aim for 1st posting on 1 July?

Erm, I really would like to do this but am panicking a bit about keeping my anonymity due to what I'm mainly on mn posting about and having thought about it I'll have to drop out for not wanting to pm my rl details but could I read the books anyway and join in the discussions???

Report
Jas · 23/06/2012 11:44

WE don't really disclose the book details - often until very late in the year. It is like a little present when you get a book in the post every month, so the discussion threads are secondary, and often deliberately vague.

I totally understand though if you don't want to give out your real address. Sad

I've PM'd BumGrapesofWrath my address :)

Are you collecting the list of books Jas or are we starting our own thread with the initials? I'll be ready to post on 1st July!

Report
Jas · 23/06/2012 15:38

I'd rather not collect a list of books, tbh. It is pretty unlikely that we will have a duplicate I think.

Jas will send you my address in a min!

When choosing my book, can it be any book (obviously not chick lit, misery etc). The reason I ask is there is a book I love, which I'd love to share, but it is quite old and I'm worried people may have read it. Or do I pick something a bit more obscure?

Report
Housewifefromheaven · 23/06/2012 20:30

I'd go with what you love! That's what I'm going to do. I think :o

First time I did it,it was chick lit, mis lit and science fiction and I think in the second round you decided not to send any books that were thicker than an inch .Is this still the case or can I send The complete works of Shakespeare GrinAlso Jas do you need a list of what each person is sending or do we just post it on July 1st?

Have received and sent postal address.

I agree no mislit, but am not fussed about receving chicklit (as its a genre I never choose to read, so I may be pleasantly surprised) or books over an inch thick!
