C&P'ed from another thread:
Right OK shall start when we left for A&E, apologies for loooooong story....
Got to A&E, waited about an hour-ish, doctor came took blood, urine sample (for PT), and felt my belly, evenutally sent me and the bloods up to the gynae ward. Waited for what seemed like forever, finally got to see the doc, he took a full history (this alone took about half an hour because he was writing everything down with a pen and paper!! ) then he did an internal, took a load of swobs (which only after did he tell me they were to check for STI's - nice) felt my belly again. Then back to the waiting room for god knows how long, by this point DH had gone to pick DS1 up from school.
Eventually, ever such a patronising, condesending, fucking arsehole of doctor came and got me so she could scan me. We were walking down the corrider towards the scanning room, she asked when my last period was, told her 5th of April, she got her little wheel thingy out, and said "Oh, so you're about 5 weeks, not 7 then?" I said "when I worked it out I would be 7 weeks this coming Friday" she said "Nope, you are only 5 weeks, which means you are going to need an internal scan, tut"
We get to the room, she closes the door, and says, "under these sorts of circumstances we're not really looking for anything I don't think" Then goes on to tell me how easy it is for women to get their dates mixed up, and how many times people have to come back for later scans because there is nothing there. She said "since you are around 5 weeks (] I don't think so) some women do experience a little implantation bleeding that is perfectly normal, and nothing to turn up at A&E for" I was biting my tongue by this point.
So she does the scan, clicking about on the keyboard, doesn't say a thing to me at all, then about 5 minutes later turned the screen around, and said, "yep normal baby in there, though it is a little larger than I'd expect, I'd say you were 7 and a half weeks, but since we don't tend to the real measuring until the dating scan at 12 weeks, it is only a guess." In that split second she went from one of the most miserable unsympathetic cowbags I had ever met, to the most wonderful person in the world.
I had to wait around for a bit because when they'd taken the blood they left the ermmmmm.... thingy in so if they needed more it was already open, anyway I had to have it taken out before I could go obviously, and the nurse that came to take it out said "the doctor just wanted me to make you aware of a few things...." basically she did see a pool of blood, and I am to expect it to come out at some point, although it may just reabsorb into my body. No sex for 7 days after any slightest bit of bleeding Gave me a letter to take to the GP, and sent me on my very merry way!
