Recurrent miscarriages- Professor Quenby

Hi ladies, I am currently going through my second miscarriage in 5 months (been ttc no2 for 12 months). My GP is making arrangements to refer me to Professor Quenby at Coventry Fertility Clinic. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with Professor Quenby, any idea what the wait time is like and if anyone has gone private with her (if that’s even an option).
Appreciate any tips and advice in advance to me seeing/speaking to her. X

I’m taking part in the Cerm trial and am positive therefore will be going down to collect the medication next week either the real thing or placebo. Obviously because I’m positive I’m
now worried if I get the placebo the endometritis will cause other problems. Also awaiting results for NK cells still. Does anyone know if the results come back positive for NK cells do Tommys then recommend or prescribe steroids in the next pregnancy?

HopefulH · 30/03/2022 20:15

Wow four children! That’s amazing and thanks for sharing your positive outcome. What’s the Clexane for? I’ve been prescribed progesterone and have now taken a two week course of Doxy. I do also have high killer cells so I’m waiting to find out if I will be prescribed steroids. Did you take progesterone from ovulation or a positive test? X

Lovemylittlebear · 30/03/2022 20:24

I took clexane in case of undiagnosed clotting issues when pregnant, progesterone from pregnant, steroids in case of high killer cells (didn’t get the test done) but had wanted to. I had a pregnancy before my last baby but couldn’t get the steroids or clexane and I miscarried again. Took the meds for last pregnancy and have my baby fast asleep next to me and the other three snuggled up in bed watching turning red. I honestly didn’t think it would be possible a few years ago but I got lucky in finding something that worked for me. Fingers crossed you also end up with happy results. I had one ectopic abs three miscarriages X

Brightstar29 - I’m waiting to find out what protocol Tommys suggest for high killer cells. My first biopsy result was super high. Professor Quenby mentioned steroids to me, but has put me in for a repeat test before she comes up with my plan. I’m nervous they won’t offer me steroids as I know killer cells is a controversial topic based on limited research. But with my first result so high, I’m convinced I need help.

louloulemons · 30/03/2022 21:15

Were killer cells one of the standard tests they offered? Just going back through all my blood test results they did and can’t see it mentioned. Is it called anything else? Private clinic have recommended the same test but it’s really expensive so just wondering if I should have had it done already

rainbow3087 · 31/03/2022 04:57

Not fair if you get placebo right? I would be so paranoid just like you. I am going to do the same if I get placebo. Thank you for sharing with me. What about NK cells any protocol for that yet? I have a feeling that I may have that too. Also I read some where that if you're quite fit and exercise eat right kind of stuff, NK cells tend to be higher? I am quite disciplined with my lifestyle. A shame if that is causing me harm!

So happy for you and thank you for sharing your story. How did the doc prescribe you prednisone? I am not sure if I will get that! So difficult to get meds prescribed in this country! But do give me tips please. Xx

Hiya love. I am sure she will prescribe prednisone (steroids) if NK cells are high. They're quite willing to try out medication?. When is your next biopsy. Also how much time does it take to get your biopsy results back? I am going to stay away from hubs meanwhile! I have been sent condoms as well via the cerm trial and I can ask for more if I need LOL Grin
Lovemylittlebear · 31/03/2022 09:30

I saw Amanda o Leary at crgw and she gave me private prescription (took research papers with me but she was familiar with it all). Babies 3 and 4 I had amazing GP and it was prescribed through NHS (clexane is expensive) x

Brightstar29 · 31/03/2022 13:15

Out of interest as well how many others who have tested positive for endometritis have had previous d&cs or other risk factors? Because I read that it can actually be caused by d&c, I asked Tommys about this and they said that this is something else they are trying to do more research on x

ButtercupBlue · 31/03/2022 13:39

I've had 6 miscarriages, 5 of them MMC and had two D&C's- one way back in 2010 and another in Feb 2020. I also had an MVA after one in Nov 2020.

It would be interesting to know if there's a link. I actually had an infection after my Feb 2020 D&C and had three weeks of antibiotics afterwards.

ButtercupBlue · 31/03/2022 13:40

Sorry, I did try to reply to you specifically there but my phone seems to have had other ideas!

louloulemons · 31/03/2022 13:57

No I tested positive for it but have never had a D&C. I had medical management for both my MMCs

HopefulH · 31/03/2022 21:21

I’ve had two D&Cs now but I also had surgery for retained placenta after my son. So there are a lot of risk factors here I think for infection. Who knows if that’s what has caused my miscarriages since my son.

Oliviaashkno · 31/03/2022 21:30

Hi, I haven’t had the biopsy and don’t really want to do the trial, im thinking of just ordering the antibiotics privately like you said and taking them, if I have endemetritis bonus I’ve had the antibiotics and If not then I’ve not, 2 week course isn’t going to cause any harm. Did they say how long to wait till ttc again after taking the antibiotics or can you start again as soon as you’ve taken them ? And when did you start taking them, first day of period or any time ???x

HopefulH · 31/03/2022 21:54

Hi @Oliviaashkno - yes some ladies do decide to just order without finding out if they have endometritis. Prof Quenby did say to me that the biopsy alone can help your lining to regenerate healthy cells - so that’s worth considering. Also it’s been good to have the killer cells test done at the same time, without having to pay. I have also ordered my husband a two week course of Doxy too, as European clinics often prescribe partners the same treatment, to make sure no bacterial infections are passed back and forth. So that’s food for thought too.

HopefulH · 31/03/2022 21:57

Oh and sorry didn’t answer your other questions - I’ve been told we can now try again, so the cycle following treatment. Best to start taking the Doxy from cycle day 1, to be 100% sure you are not pregnant.

louloulemons · 31/03/2022 22:09

We’re you all offered the killer cells test or did you have to ask for it?

HopefulH · 31/03/2022 22:14

@louloulemons Prof Q mentioned it to me, and I remembered and asked on biopsy day, and she said yes that’s fine. I think if I hadn’t remembered I might not have got it. I think if you have taken part in the trial, it’s worth ringing them up and asking if you can have a killer cells test done too.

Oliviaashkno · 31/03/2022 22:49

@HopefulH sorry let question haha, where did you order the antibiotics from ? I can only find a week course not two weeks and did you give the reasoning of endometritis as It just states chlamydia for the reasoning to have them prescribed to me online

HopefulH · 31/03/2022 23:04

@Oliviaashkno I ordered via Superdrug Online pharamacy - for Malaria (28 days worth) I stated I was visiting Gambia. Or you can order from Simply Meds online - again for Malaria. Chlamydia will only give you a weeks worth so that’s why you have to say it’s for Malaria prevention.

I spoke to prof quenby last week. Blood tests came back normal. She said the nk cells tests not with doing and to be realistic at my age. So that’s the end of that basically, I am going to start counselling in a few weeks as part of the moving on process and healing from previous mcs

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can imagine how difficult it must be to be told there are no other suggestions / things to try. I really hope the counselling helps & that you're able to move on.

Hi All.
I've just had my telephone consultation with Prof Quenby after 3 miscarriages. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism and she seemed to now dismiss testing for NK cells?! They really think doxy is the answer. I've got my biopsy in two weeks and I'm nervous for the results. If it's negative then can progesterone really help me keep my babies?! Has anyone had success on this alone? If it's positive what if I get the placebo...it's so much to think about. Have any of you had success since the last posts? Thanks x
