Partial molar pregnancy

MilkyWay123 · 01/04/2021 09:32

Hello ladies - I posted this in the infertility thread last night but thinking now that this is probably more appropriate so apologies for double posting.

I had a missed miscarriage recently that was a suspected partial mole and this has now been confirmed by histology. I'm being referred to Charring Cross for monitoring and was wondering if others on here have had a similar experience? How long did it take for your HCG levels to drop and to get the all clear to try to get pregnant again? I'm a bit horrified at the prospect of having to maybe wait for up to a year.

This is also my third missed miscarriage although I have had a child before this one. From what I've read molar and partial molar pregnancies are completely random. Is this just bad luck? Or something I should be thinking about in the context of the other miscarriages?

Any insights gratefully received!

@MilkyWay123 did your results come back ok? My levels are quite low now but not enough for them to out me to the 4 week review yet. I'm still waiting for a period though, my surgery was 7 weeks this Friday 😬😬

@Gustavo21 so sorry to hear about your losses, I hope your levels drop quickly xx

MilkyWay123 · 15/04/2021 21:35

@00solsen00 yes, thanks I got them this afternoon. My blood level was 228 which I think is probably ok as a starting point as long as it drops next time around. The lighter line on the pregnancy test this week is giving me hope that my levels are dropping though so trying to keep a fairly positive attitude about things this evening! I'm really glad to hear that your levels are low now. It must be so frustrating though not to just tip over the edge into negative territory or to get your period 😬 Fingers crossed for you that you get both in the next couple of weeks.

That sounds like a scarey bleeding incident @Gustavo21! More stress that you probably didn't need at the time. And I'm so sorry about your previous miscarriage and I really do understand your anxiety about trying again. I was so worried when I was pregnant with my son, convinced that I was going to have another MC. But I had the most straightforward problem free pregnancy with him. It really was just crap luck that I had two MCs before he came along. And in your case you will know that this MC was the ultimate in bad luck and that there was nothing more to it then that. I won't tell you not to worry because I know myself that it's impossible not to, but please do try to stay positive. It will be all the sweeter when you do get your baby after all you've been through. You just need to take your time to process everything and really take care of yourself now.xx

@MilkyWay123 that’s great you’ve had your results! Did they give you much advice about it all? Hopefully they will just continue to drop quickly but it’s a good sign the pregnancy test is lighter as well. Sorry if you have said before but how long is it since you had your d&c? I’m keeping everything crossed for you! I am going to phone up today for my results hopefully so I’ll keep you updated.

Thank you, I know I need to try and stay positive! It’s just also feels like the whole world around me is pregnant or having babies! It helps to speak to others who have been through it tho so thank you :)

@00solsen00 I’m so sorry to hear about your MP and miscarriage. It’s awful that you are having to even go through this but it does sound like you are on the right track and I’m keeping everything crossed for you as well that you are discharged soon! Xxx

MilkyWay123 · 17/04/2021 12:15

@Gustavo21, they just said that my result was "fine" for my first one and they just want to see it drop with my next results. Did you get yours? I'm hoping it was a nice low two digit number given that you've had your period! My D&C was 3 weeks ago on Thursday just gone by.

Oh my God yes, I feel like there has been an explosion of pregnancy announcements and births in my life and on my social media in the last few weeks! All lovely people that I'm genuinely happy for, but can't help feeling a teeny bit jealous. And I had a reminder come up on my phone during the week for what should have been my 12 week scan - bit of a gut punch, but onwards and upwards...

@MilkyWay123 that’s great news! My levels were actually good as well, my urine is now normal and my blood needs to be under 5 and is currently 6 so hopefully the next set they will be completely normal... 🤞 my d&c was nearly 5 weeks ago.

I know, it’s tough! I’ve hidden quite a lot of stuff from my social media for now which does help! Anyway, as you say onwards and upwards! I hope your levels continue to drop and I’m keeping everything crossed for your next set of tests! Keep me updated :) Xxx

00solsen00 · 18/04/2021 21:28

@gustavo21 - those results are really good, I'm on my second now and my blood is 5 so hoping my next lot will be low enough for the 4 week follow up

And same for me, pregnancy announcements for so many people I know!

MilkyWay123 · 19/04/2021 20:49

That's such good news @Gustavo21 and @00solsen00. It gives me hope that your levels have dropped so quickly! Fingers crossed that you both make the four week review after your next tests. Let me know how you both get on.xxx

Hi.I had two molar pregnancies back to back. One in 2016 and the other in 2020.In the first one,my levels did not drop enough and I had to have the intense chemo where I lost my hair. That went on for a few months with weekly visits and overnight stay at charing cross hospital. However in the second molar pregnancy,my levels just fell and no treatment was required 🙏.I am more at risk now that I have had two molar pregnancies. You will get through this I promise, just see it as a blip.Feel free to ask me anything you like.

00solsen00 · 27/04/2021 12:11

@GlitzAndGlamour26 it sounds like you have had an awful time, so sorry for your losses. Did they / will they look into why you've had two now because surely that's not just a fluke??

GlitzAndGlamour26 · 27/04/2021 13:55

@00solsen00 well they said because I had only two molar pregnancies they would not investigate,I have to have 3 molar pregnancies for them to investigate. However,I have pushed my Dr into looking into this so I have just had some blood tests done.I am so scared to get pregnant again now.

MilkyWay123 · 27/04/2021 13:57

Hi @GlitzAndGlamour26, I'm so sorry you've had such a difficult time of it. Did you have complete or partial molars? Like @00solsen00 asked I'd be interested to know if they have given any indication of why it's happened to you twice or what the risk factors are?

OP posts:
GlitzAndGlamour26 · 27/04/2021 14:08

I had two complete molars!I have asked for tests because they said complete molar indicates a problem with the eggs.

swishswashswoosh · 27/04/2021 15:04

Sorry to hear the difficulties you have all been going through. I had a partial molar pregnancy in 2017 and I actually 'recovered' really well - my levels went down to 7 by week 6 and the next check they were negligible so was cleared for to allow to try again. I was pregnant 4 months later.

00solsen00 · 27/04/2021 17:55

@swishswashswoosh did you have any extra tests or scans with the next pregnancy?

@GlitzAndGlamour26 that's horrible that they make you wait for three, especially if they say after two you're more likely to have another!

No, they were very uninterested tbh. Not sure if it was because my levels went down so quickly or because I had already had a baby a few years before with no problems. Just to say I've had two healthy babies (and a couple of 'regular' miscarriages) since and the partial molar wasn't even recorded for the last baby other than being put down as a missed miscarriage so they obviously didn't seem worried about it affecting future pregnancies.

TenRays · 28/04/2021 10:35

Hi all. I hope it’s ok to join this thread. I had a MMC 3 weeks ago, and last week got a call to say it was a partial molar pregnancy.

At first I was relieved to have a reason for my loss, but then I just became so angry and upset about how unlucky we’ve been. This is my fourth loss in 3 years. Two MMC at 20 weeks and one at 12 - all genetically healthy babies. We finally saw a specialist doctor and were on a very complex (and expensive!) treatment plan and then this random one-off genetic accident happens!! You couldn’t make it up. I’m being treated at Sheffield and am still waiting for my first sample pot to arrive. Really hoping my levels go down quickly so we can give our treatment plan one last try, but knowing our luck it won’t be straightforward.

Oh and I also have a four year old whose pregnancy was very straightforward, so these last few years have been a big shock for us.

I just feel like life is on hold a bit now until I know what’s happening with my levels. It’s so tough.

00solsen00 · 28/04/2021 16:00

@TenRays so sorry to hear what you have been through! It's so frustrating being told to wait when all you want to do is try again. It's really tough but hang in there - sending you a virtual hug!
I'm just waiting for my next set of results tomorrow, if all good I'll be on the 4 week follow up and then discharge - missed miscarriage on 23rd Feb, surgery on the 26th feb xx

MilkyWay123 · 29/04/2021 09:50

@swishswashswoosh It's really good to hear a positive story about successful pregnancies after PMP. Thank you!

@GlitzAndGlamour26 that is really awful that they won't investigate unless you have had three molar pregnancies. I don't even think that it's right that you need to have 3 "regular" miscarriages to have investigations, but molar pregnancies are a whole other level of stress to deal with. I'm glad to hear that your doctor is going to do some additional tests for you.xx

@TenRays I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. That is a lot to go through in 3 years. I really hope that your levels drop quickly and that your treatment plan works out next time. I know what you mean about feeling like life is on hold and hopefully your first kit arrives soon. I felt a bit better once I did my first set of tests, it just felt like I was at least "doing something" to start moving out of this limbo.

@00solsen00 and @Gustavo21 I hope your tests come back negative this week and that you get into the 4 week review! I'm hoping to get my results this afternoon and see a drop. I got my period this week and there was just the faintest shadow of a line on my pregnancy test this morning so I'm hoping that they are a good bit lower than two weeks ago.

Gustavo21 · 29/04/2021 14:06

I’m so so sorry to hear about everything you have all (sorry I don’t seem to be able to tag you!) been through, it is really the worst. Time also seems to go so slowly when you are told to wait as well! I hope all your testing goes well and you get some answers soon. And you can always moan/vent to us on here!

@MilkyWay123 that’s great news about your period! I think your levels will be coming down now, please let us know how you get on this week. I just went for my second set today so hoping to have the results next week! It’s definitely getting easier but when I went back into the hospital today I could feel myself getting upset again. I think until the testing is all done you can’t really move on. @00solsen00 have you had any more results?

I’m now starting to get really anxious about trying again. Confused

00solsen00 · 29/04/2021 20:23

@Gustavo21 my blood HCG was 3 and my urine 10 - I'm at the 4 week review mark! 🎉 But starting to get really nervous about trying again, I really don't want to go through this again

@MilkyWay123 did you get your results??

MilkyWay123 · 29/04/2021 22:00

@00solsen00 that's such good news! I'm so happy you're in the review period. Fingers crossed that you get a similar outcome @Gustavo21

My results were 44 in blood and 87 in urine which I'm reasonably happy with. They're well down from two weeks ago so just hoping they keep dropping quickly.

MilkyWay123 · 13/05/2021 14:32

Hi @Gustavo21, I was just wondering if you had any more results and if you were in the review period yet? The results of my tests this week showed my urine levels are normal and 12 in blood so really really hoping that they are all normal next time around. I am so fed up of this process!

MariaC03 · 13/05/2021 15:48

Hi all,

Hope you are all doing well, I’ve been silently following this thread for a couple of weeks now. My op was on the 23rd March so about 7 weeks ago, I only got my first sample pot from Sheffield last week so I got my first set of results on Monday, the nurse said my urine was 0.02 and ‘normal.’
Today I’ve received a container and a letter saying I need to arrange to get a blood sample in 4 weeks time and I have to post it off to Sheffield.
It sounds like you guys have had regular bloods along with the urine samples, but this is the first time blood has been requested from me since I was in the hospital. Have you had to arrange for the blood to be taken then take it home to post? It seems strange!
X

00solsen00 · 13/05/2021 18:26

@MariaC03 so sorry that you are going through this as well
Charing cross ask for samples every 2 weeks initially but stye ask for blood and urine. I just take my urine sample to my local hospital and they send it off with my blood sample for me so haven't actually sent any samples off myself yet. After the blood and urine both show negative (my urine was negative before my blood was) they then just do a urine test in 4 weeks. I'm not sure why Sheffield is different?

Have you asked your local hospital if they can send the blood sample off for you?

00solsen00 · 13/05/2021 18:27

@MilkyWay123 those results are good!! fingers crossed your next bloods are negative!
