Missed miscarriage -when does it start?

Hi!
I've been going through a terrible phase. I got pregnant in October and went for my 12 week scan on Monday. The sonographer said that there is a pregnancy but in no way it is 12 weeks seems very early. He also did a vaginal ultrasound and found that everything is in place just that the embryo is 3.2mm and measures 6 weeks! The heartbeat is uncertain as he said he couldn't be too sure. I've been booked in for another scan for 9th December but i know its all over now as I started to have some pink mucus discharge while wiping just on The same night after scan.
Since then I've been having some brown mucus or discharge while wiping (sorry TMI) but my pad is clean. Last night the mucus was a bit redder. Still no bleeding. So when does it all start??
I wanted it to go naturally, afraid on what to choose for Monday if it doesn't happen by then. Have heard risks of scarring in D&C and scared of blood loss from medical management.

Any positive stories of getting pregnant again after having D&C or medical management.
I've a daughter too before this so never thought this could happen. Have been crying for days.

@salemspellman also some doctors say to wait for 3 months before trying. I dont know what to do.. I think I should let this time pass first.

@Bee1710 sorry to hear that.
My experience was not nice but I can't say that it's like that for everyone. Who knows? I almost hate telling people because I don't want to worry you unnecessarily in case it's not like this for you. But I really really struggled with not knowing. I was told it would be a moderate to heavy period.

I lost lumps of stuff that was just like raw liver. Some of them were really big too, like a hand span size. Lots of heavy bleeding but not gushing out. Then I had contractions roughly every 2 minutes and they were painful. Exactly the same as the first stage of my labour with DD1. I then passed the sac and immediately it calmed. I passed a bit more tissue that evening and then it was just like a period for a few days after that. There is a thread on here about people's experiences if that would help you to read. Maybe some people wouldn't find that helpful but I WISH someone would have told me. xxxx

Sometimes a sac is not identifiable because it can be caught up within the other stuff you pass.
Mine looked like a small water balloon I guess. If you don't want to do this naturally (hate that word here sorry but I don't know else to describe) can you go back to epu and ask for management? x

Bee1710 · 04/12/2019 23:15

@zoey36 I dont know what to do.. I'm scared. I guess I'll call tomorrow and ask. I can try.. I dont know whether it's good if it passes naturally or not. Such a difficult stage :(

I wish I could just hug you. It's such a horrendous time. :(
Definitely call and speak to someone....or at least try. Nobody would speak to me about options because I was due back for a follow up scan like you. But if I'd have put up more of a fuss I think they definitely would have spoken to me. I hope your epu is more helpful than mine was!
No option is a wrong one or a right one. Maybe read about them...maybe on the Miscarriage Association website? It may help you feel more informed. I feel so much better about things when I'm informed and know what is going on. Sending love xxx

@Bee1710 definitely contact your epu and they should be able to help if you are concerned. I was worried when I had to wait almost a week for surgery as I thought something may happen during this time. When I'd made my mind up that I wanted surgery I felt some sort of control over the situation and this possibly being taken away again frightened me. My epu were great though and reassured me that if anything started to happen I could go straight down and they would admit me to the ward. I was terrified of blood loss (but my worry around this is because I have a blood disorder so don't let that frighten you) and the unknown so knowing that this was an option put my mind at rest a little as then I knew I could be monitored. I don't know if everyone's epu works like this though as there does seem to be a lot of mixed stories and people being told to wait etc. I think I was lucky because I had a really positive experience under really crappy circumstances. Hope you are doing ok Thanks

@Bee1710 how are you this morning?

When I passed the sack my waters had broke so everything came out in one go. I could see the membrane of the sack.

If you are feeling anxious I would contact the hospital, they might tell you to go in.

Bee1710 · 05/12/2019 09:15

@zoey36 @goldenbauble @salemspellman yes im thinking ill call and ask if I see something more.. right now no cramps and i changed my pad last night and there is no more spotting. I think it's going slow.

@salemspellman did you experience a lot of pain?

OP posts:
SalemSpellman · 05/12/2019 09:28

@Bee1710 it was painful, but it was manageable. I took codine after wards, I hadn't had a chance to take any from waking up to the miscarriage happening.

GoldenBauble · 12/12/2019 17:16

Hi @Bee1710. I'm doing well thanks. The physical recovery has thankfully still been pretty smooth. The bleeding did make a surprise reappearance the other day which I had been warned could happen by another poster on here. It did take me a bit by surprise as I thought it was all over and done with but it's all completely stopped again after a day or so - keeping fingers crossed that was the end of it!
I rang the hospital for some reassurance and they weren't concerned either so long as it didn't get heavy or carried on for 3 weeks etc they said it's normal for bleeding to stop and start a bit.

I've not had my period yet. I was told that this should be between 4-6 weeks post surgery but I think this can vary as some people seem to have to wait a few months. I was advised by epu to do a pregnancy test after 3 weeks and if this isn't negative to contact them as it could indicate there are some retained products. I am a little anxious about this as I really don't want a second surgery (not because the surgery was traumatic or anything, more I want to avoid having another surgery to limit any complications in the future from this). I just hope that everything recovers as quickly as possible now!

I know how you are feeling. I got really anxious in the days leading up to my surgery and had a bit of a meltdown in the morning about it all but I can honestly say it was all fine and very un-traumatic. Hope everything goes well for you. I'm sure it will, I found it reassuring reading how many people had been through surgery around the same time as me and the hospital told me they do these procedures on a daily basis with very few people ever experiencing any complications. All the best Thanks
