6+6 - Scan showed empty gestational sac at

Hi ladies, so after a miscarriage at 6+3 last year and another 8 months of trying, I had a positive pt 2 weeks ago today. I worked from my tracking app that I was 5 weeks pregnant that day, going by my lmp. We decided to get a private early scan due to my worry after the mc last year. So I had that yesterday and after not finding anything on an ultrasound, she did an internal scan and eventually (after a lot of prodding and pushing) she found what she thought was an empty gestational sac! But couldn't see anything inside at all. My cycles do vary a bit in length but even if I was a week or so out, they should surely still be seeing something at this stage?! I'm phoning my doc tomorrow morning to see if they'll do blood tests to check hcg. I have nausea, sore boobs etc, but I'm wondering if this is a case of blighted ovum. Absolutely gutted. The sonographer also said she struggled to find the gestational sac cos my uterus is so tilted! I've never heard that before (and I've had early scans with no issues with previous 2 children), but I do have a bicornuate uterus (as picked up during emergency c-section in early delivery of my second ds).
Just sharing as I need to vent about my despair! I am blessed to have two beautiful boys (6 & 10) but they are from a previous relationship and my partner and I would love a baby of our own. I am 39 and my partner is 40. Thank you if you've read this far Smile

Hello Josie.

We just wanted to offer a hand hold. So sorry to hear about your miscarriage last year and that you had a frightening time at the scan yesterday. We'll keep everything crossed for you. Occasionally dates can be wrong. If it does turn out to be bad news though, we hope you'll find lots of support here.

Do pop back and let us know how it goes. We hope today brings more positive news.

Hi OP if you only had a positive test 2 weeks ago unless you're absolutely certain on ovulation date then you would only be around 6 weeks and could well be up to a week less So it's normal that very little can be seen at this stage

Hi Op. I'm sorry you're going through this. I work in ultrasound and suggest you contact your GP or local Early pregnancy unit. If your cycles do vary then there is a chance that you could be a lot earlier than you think. Typically nothing will show on a scan before 4 weeks, yolk sac between 4-5 weeks and heartbeat about 6.
A retroverted uterus is nothing to worry about. 1 in 4 women will have one and it just mean your uterus tilts backwards. It makes it harder to find things but if you fill your bladder well it shouldn't matter too much. Most sonographer won't comment on this as it's so common. Unfortunately it does mean they would have had to angle the probe a bit differently so that's why they were 'poking and prodding', it shouldn't have been painful though and if you have another one, and it is, please let the sonog know so they can adapt their technique.
Please see someone in EPAU as the hospital won't be able to take any private scans into consideration. It's also important you speak to someone to see what your next options are.
Let know how things go! Good luck.

Thank you so much for your responses, it means so much, especially as I'm not very good at talking to my partner in these times. He's supportive but I just go into myself to deal with things like this.
So I rang my GP today (she only works certain days and I don't like dealing with the other 2 Drs at my surgery). So she has booked me a scan at my local EPU next Wednesday. I'm not feeling very hopeful but at least by then I'll hopefully have some answers either way.
Really appreciate your support x
