Hi,

Sorry if there is already a thread I couldn't see one. I had a MC in May I should have been 8w baby found to have no heartbeat and measured 6.3 weeks. Obviously I've spent hours, days, weeks & months researching I've seen quite a lot about taking aspirin after a MC. I've been going to see my GP she said to not take it but if I had a second she'd advise it not what I wanted to hear!
So has anyone taken aspirin has it helped or even any where it's caused an issue. I just find it's best getting advice from others who have sadly had an MC too.

Thank you

I have had 2 MCs and if I do get pregnant again I will be trying low dose aspirin with or without doctors advice. I’m sorry but like you, I am not waiting for a 3rd one to happen. At the hospital during my last MC one of the nurses loosely mentioned the aspirin so...from what I’ve researched and read on here, it might not do you any good but it can’t really do any harm either.

It is typically given to women who have miscarried due to a blood clotting disorder, which is diagnosed from further tests.

I’ve seen a lot of warnings to stop the aspirin at 36 weeks as it thins your blood which could be incredibly dangerous whilst giving birth as far as blood loss goes.

My opinion may be frowned upon, but at the end of the day it’s a personal choice and I am aware of, and accepting, the risks involved.

Sorry about your MC, best of luck Flowers xxx

I had two miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. This was enough to enable a referral to the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic where we live. By the time the appointment came around, I was 6 weeks pregnant and the pregnancy went to term. The Consultant suggested aspirin daily until 36 weeks as some women miscarry because of blood clotting issues. As I was already pregnant, I couldn’t have any investigations re: previous miscarriages. I took the aspirin but my recollection is that doctors don’t specifically recommend ie studies into its efficacy are ongoing and there is no consensus between experts. That was over two years ago now though so my recollection may well be incorrect and/or things may have changed. I took it on the basis that I was under medical supervision and the suggestion was that it probably wouldn’t harm, even if it turned out not to help.
Whatever you decide, good luck from me too.

I took aspirin all through pregnancy as advised. DS is now 5 months and perfect, healthy, happy baby.

I bought some they only had 300mg in Sainsbury's- hope that dose is okay.

That dose sounds like normal aspirin which isn’t the one you need, get the 75mg ones. I got mine in Boots, they also sell them in Superdrug and Wilko! If you're not sure ask someone in the store for “low dose aspirin” X

Michelle0507 · 02/09/2018 17:00

@Ells0204 I spoke to a Friend and she recommended some from Boots - going to pop in tomorrow .

Yes sorry I should have added too that it's the lower dose you'll want to take. I had dispersible aspirin not that that makes a difference prescribed to me. Hang on, I'll take a pic..

sirlee66 · 02/09/2018 17:21

These are what I have left over from my preggers days. Any pharmacy will have them.

Aspirin
eurochick · 02/09/2018 18:18

You need the 75mg dose. You can buy it in Boots, etc.

crosser62 · 02/09/2018 18:54

Why did your gp say no?
Is it based on your full medical history available to her which may contraindicate you taking aspirin?
Was it based on clinical evidence?

Think carefully before going against medical advice.

I took it and still miscarried. I bled more than I had done previously.
Unfortunately there is no magic cure.

Good luck.

Michelle0507 · 03/09/2018 16:31

@crosser62 she just said no I haven't lost 2 babies didn't look into my history.

I know that will be my next step! Hoping I don't have to and it was just bad luck !!! So shit! Hope your recovery is speedy and you feel better soon xx

Loulou619 · 07/09/2018 20:00

Please let don’t take the 300 that’s a very high dose. I am prescribed 150mg daily to reduce the risk of pre eclampsia as I am high risk due to high bmi. They used to only give 75 until recently when the dose changed. I can’t advise either way but wouldn’t think taking more than 75mg without the doctors say so would be wise. From the other people’s comments it seems the lower dose won’t do any harm x

PumpkinPatch000 · 10/09/2018 15:52

It's really good to see this thread as i've been thinking about this too. I've had two miscarriages this year and i'm very tempted to try taking aspirin this time around. When do you start taking it?

Jay92 · 10/09/2018 16:49

@PumpkinPatch000 I have started and all.☺️ just a low dose .75mg/150mg.

PumpkinPatch000 · 10/09/2018 17:15

Good luck @Jay92 I hope it does the trick! :)

Ells0204 · 10/09/2018 17:29

Gutted to come back on here and see this @Michelle0507 so sorry it’s happened again. I’m on CD2 today so on to cycle 6 since the last MC. I have been obsessively reading about aspirin again and from what I read, if you are experiencing early loss miscarriages then sometimes waiting for a BFP to start the aspirin is actually too late, and you need to start it earlier in your cycle.

I don’t want to take it whilst AF is here as I’m worried it’ll make it really heavy. But some women have said the week before and after OV is best, as it can also interfere with implantation so you want to stop it before then. So I guess, you take it from say CD7-7DPO roughly, and then start it back up again if you get a BFP.

No idea if the above is all bollocks or not, but worth a try right.

Best of luck Flowers

@Ells0204 thank you & thank you for the advice.

A friend informed me they kept having misscarriages and lacked Vitamin B12 today my Manager told me of a friend who lacked a vitamin had the vitamin in the form of an injection and had a healthy pregnancy. More things to research!
