I had my 7th mcs about 9 weeks ago (i think, i didnt write any dates down, have little memory of about 2 weeks during the time, due to the drugs i was pumped with)
In short, i dont know when it occurred.

Ive sought councelling because i have never talked about my mcs ever, to any one.(well, only to you lot Smile)
Additionally, i am coming up 42, and thught that that was IT the end, no more, even went and got the pill.

Patiently waiting for my period so that i could start taking the damned thing.
No af as yet.
Feeling much better in myself, councelling really really helping, im on a healthy eating mission (thanks to myfitnesspal) doing really well.

Accepting everything, although the grief has been overwhelming at times Sad.

So af still not here, so bought a cheepy test, thought that all pregnancy hrmones will now be gone...this far after mc....almost immediately a pink line came up.

We dtd only a couple of times..it normally took me up to 22 months to concieve so this has floored me...completely and totally. Do not know what the jeff i should do?????????
All calming words of wisdom very much appreciated....i know i know, theres no fool like an old fool.. Sad

I personally wouldn't have the amnio.

please read up on the risks before you agree to it definitively.

congratulations on getting to 13 weeks Grin Thanks

i may have cried a bit reading this whole thread in one go Wink

Hi Nosleep, I definitely recommend that you read up on the risks before you have the amnio, as Nickel suggests. It's a big decision. I have had two aminos which have been fine but it is no way 100% risk free. Some hospitals have a lower mc rate following amnios than others so it may be worth checking this out. When I had the second amnio my MW suggested that we arrange an appointment a few days after to put my mind at rest. I was due to have an appointment at around that time anyway but my MW was very thoughtful with the scheduling of it. If you do go ahead, do you know any relaxation techniques? When I had my second I used the relaxation techniques I had learnt at the ante-natal classes I had had during my first pregnancy and it helped a great deal while the procedure was carried out. The doctor even remarked that she had never had a more relaxed patient. Make sure that you rest afterwards!!! Bear in mind that you have increased v discharge at around this time during the pregnancy. After the first amnio I was convinced I was having some kind of slow leakage.

Congratulations on getting to 13 weeks!

pixiestix · 28/07/2012 14:52

Wholeheartedly agree re reading up on the risks. Although you probably have already!

drjohnsonscat · 01/08/2012 22:44

hi nosleep! Great news re the peach. Soon to be a Giant Peach.

I had amnio, and a CVS with different pgs. Both were ok. I had them because of a history of blighted pgs and genetic probs. Like you, I wasn't accepting a nuchal fold risk - I needed to know.

The thing is to make sure you get the absolute expert doing it - experience with the test makes a real difference. If they try to give you the YTS trainee just walk out! FWIW I went private because I was living in Switzerland at the time anyway and wasn't covered there and yada yada so I came back for my amnio at the Fetal Medicine Centre in London. It was expensive but the test was done by Prof Nicolaides himself - who actually invented nuchal fold testing so a real, real expert. it was over in a trice and so reassuring to have him do it. He showed me the heartbeat straight after and said that if you see the heartbeat after, 95% of any miscarriage risk can immediately be discounted.

Hope you are having a good holiday with your peach.

Had a fantastic time in North Wales, it is an absolutely amazing and gorgeous place. I spent the whole time with my mouth agog at the scenery.
Mountains on one side, blue sea on the other. Breathtaking.

I reached 14 weeks while there and feel well.
I was 100% about the amnio but now reading a couple of the posts on here, i am not so sure and a bit trepidous.
I was told that the cause for the majority of mcs following amnio is infection. I dont consider this to be an actual risk as it is done so very well at my local hospital, with zero mcs last year.
Sonographers technique is excellent and they are very experienced as they do them week in week out. The fact that is a sonographer doing the deed makes me feel very very reassured as Drs come & go and i am not convinced of their expertise.

But you see, i absolutely need to know. I do, i have to. I know i will not proceed with this if the worst is confirmed. There is only one way to find out.

And that of course is amnio.

ahhhh im confused.com now Sad

If you need to know then there is only one conclusive way but did you get the results from the bloods etc at 12wk scan, I think if it was say a 1:12000 chance or something then I'd have a good think about it as it would be so unlikely.... I think make your desicion on all the info you have x

nosleepwithworry · 04/08/2012 15:43

No, i refused bloods at 12 weeks. No point as they will come back as a high probability.
Probablity is no good to me. It tells me what i already know..im very high risk.

Looks like its amnio then....

Glad you had a good week. I love north Wales.

I think if the only way to get peace of mind is with the amnio then maybe you should go for it. Good luck.

Oh and glad to hear you're feeling so well. :)

tiddleypompom · 04/08/2012 17:11

Week 14 is a lemon. Just so you know :)

5madthings · 04/08/2012 17:35

14weeks! wow, i have also been away and wanted to come and check in and see how you are doing :)

its normal for you to be anxious, questioning yourself etc but you seem fairly sure you want the amnio and for good reason, sounds like your hospital is very experienced which is what you would want, so fingers crossed all goes well and you can then move on and enjoy this pregnancy :) xxx

pixiestix · 04/08/2012 18:14

Oh Nosleep. Its such a big decision. Nobody wanted to stress you out. This little lemon is obviously so wanted and after everything you have been through, it must be an agonising choice to make. You will have the positive vibes of all of us on the day you have the amnio - thats got to count for something Smile

kittykatsforever · 04/08/2012 19:45

Is there any reason why you think your high risk? The bloods don't go by age, for my age the risk of downs in 1 in 900 but my bloods came back at 1 in 27,000 so a really low chance, I've had a friend who had a 1 in 4 and had an amnio and was still ok it might not have been what you expected?
That said its not gaurenteed and if that's what's right for you then that's fine and I'm sure it would be fine x
