Eugh….just started bleeding over 2 years post menopause.
I know I need to see my GP, but obv can’t do anything (apart from worry) until Monday. Could do without this tbh.

Couldn’t read and run, try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done). If not using HRT, you will lovely be referred on a cancer exclusion pathway which typically means you should be seen by specialist within 2 weeks so hopefully some answers soon. Have you got anyone you can speak to IRL / support ? X

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 10/10/2026 00:53

Thank you. Obv been googling like a crazed person…
Not on HRT.
My 17 yo is melting his brains doom scrolling in his room - does that count?
More sensibly, my older sister had a horrible menopause (I’ve had an easy time of it all told) and had a couple of bleeds that got checked out. All fine. I’ll speak to her tomorrow.

I had my last proper period 10 years ago. I bled again once after 2 years, then again after another 2 years. Scan both times completely normal.

LoafofSellotape · 10/10/2026 01:28

Please don't worry yet. I had this and it was a cyst. It could just be a last hurrah, might not be anything serious at all.

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 10/10/2026 09:02

Good to hear the positive stories, thank you. I know the stats, but it’s hard not to freak out.

No further bleeding overnight - so just that one occurrence last night. That will make it easier to put to the back of my mind until I can book a GP appointment.
I have an interview on Tuesday I need to prepare for (stake are high).

I had this OP. A small mini period 2 years post menopause. I even ovulated as well. I phoned the GP and was put on the 2 week pathway for a hysteroscopy which just felt a bit like having a smear but a bit more poking about etc.

Everything was normal and as an added bonus the gynaecologist diagnosed very early signs of vaginal atrophy that I had no symptoms of so I started vaginal oestrogen before it had chance to get going.

It's very, very common OP xx

Submitted my e-consult.
Receptionist called back to book appt with ANP next Monday.
I asked if a clinician had assessed my consult and was told no, they just book in with nurse.
I explained my understanding is that I should be referred as soon as possible and next Monday would be 10 days since the bleed.
So, now the receptionist is going to call me tomorrow morning with hopefully a phone appt for tomorrow.
When I had a breast lump, I was referred w/o being seen.
I'm not sure why they need to see me or even speak to me. There is no further info they will be able to add in additional to what was in my consult.
I need a referral.

Yeah keep pushing, I had to read them the NICE guidelines over the phone 🙄

im shocked to hear that. Glad they’re going to get back to you and you’re right should have a direct referral. Glad they’ve gone back hopefully get sorted! Hope interviews goes well I think it was tomorrow too ! X

CandyCrushLevel14809 · 12/10/2026 22:28

Thanks both.
Yes, let's hope someone clinically trained will read the consult and get back to me.
I asked them not to call between 11am and midday - interview time.
Thanks for the good wishes. I need this job.

Surgery just called and they're seeing me at 3pm today.

OP posts:
CandyCrushLevel14809 · 13/10/2026 15:52

I'm back. The nurse was lovely. She said that since the past year they've always seen women prior to referral and done an internal.
Dunno...maybe it's to ensure the clinic sees the right cases, and not mistaken rectal bleeding or an infection that could be treated.

Anyway, referral will be made.

Interview was tough but OK.

DS2 has managed to get a short notice cancellation for a driving test tomorrow.

Too many high emotions in our household!

@CandyCrushLevel14809 hand hold in solidarity.
Ive had the exact same thing. Been bleeding on and off for a week.
i was fast tracked so seeing someone at the hospital for a poke about tomorrow.
Trying not to google, but it’s so tempting.
GP took a swab last week incase any infection but results haven’t come back yet.
you’ll get a referral date quickly, mine came through the next day.
lets keep each other updated 🥰

Oh I've googled. The hits did pretty much all say the same thing - get referred.
I am not high risk.
She said our clinic is busy atm, so might be up to 4 weeks.

I've had this, folk and I'm not too worried. I have had HRT for 10 years now (I'm just over 60) and have swapped from tablet to gel/tablet. 4 months after doing this I had a flaming period! A decade after my last one.

Then last month another one. I've done the Dr Google bit and it seems to be common with a change of HRT but I've also seen a GP and have been referred on the cancer pathway to see a gynaecologist. Got an appointment for the end of this month so I'll let you know how it goes.

Yes, I think it's far more common in women who are taking HRT than those who aren't, especially after a change.

I'm not on HRT so the concern (while still low) is greater.

How did you get on @twiddlingthumbs69 ?

I was called earlier on today and have an appointment tomorrow. So, that's very quick.

Honestly OP I am sure you’ll be ok no matter what. The endometrium is a drama queen and without progesterone to stabilise it, it bleeds. Cancer is a possibility but even if it is cancer it’s readily and effectively treated. Good outcomes are overwhelmingly likely. This is what I was told when bring seen for a very abnormally thick endometrium And I was.

Berengariaoftheverylowcountries · 15/10/2026 13:03

There’s a charity specific ally for womb cancer. Bloody good website and resources to calm you down

@CandyCrushLevel14809 sorry, meant to update yesterday.
well, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I’ve got multiple cysts on one ovary and a mass on the other. 5.4mm lining.
had the scan and biopsy, which actually wasn’t as bad as I feared.
had bloods taken, they’re showing on my nhs app now but are locked until November.
have an mri booked on Monday for pelvis and abdomen. I think the ovaries are enlarged as well but I can’t see any medical notes, which is so annoying. I tend to research the fuck out of these things to try and put my mind at rest but I can’t.
to say I’ve been knocked sideways by this is an understatement. I didn’t expect to hear that, I thought maybe polyps.
at least I have a scan Monday but it’s the waiting for results.
please let us know how you get on at your appointment x

Perimenostage · 16/10/2026 11:09

Booking the GP is the right call. NHS guidance is that any bleeding 12 months or more after your last period needs checking, even a single light episode, and you shouldn't wait more than 2 weeks to see a specialist once referred. Most causes turn out to be benign, such as a thin lining or a polyp, but only tests can sort that out. Until Monday, keep a note of any further bleeding and whether there's pain. Very heavy bleeding (soaking a pad every hour for a few hours) or feeling faint is A&E.

Youlostyourlemons · 16/10/2026 13:20

I am on the younger end of things despite being post menopausal. I have had no period for 2 years while on the pill and then another 2 years off it. One bleed earlier in this year, saw the gp who referred for a scan which came back with a small cyst and I am booked for a second scan next month just to be sure. No bleeds since that one either but it is very scary. I am not on hrt as i did not realise I was going through early menopause.

Oh gosh @twiddlingthumbs69, I can understand how shocked you must be to learn all this. Your mind must be whirring. I'm very glad they're getting you in for an MRI on Monday. Surely they'll be able to discuss the scan results before getting the MRI results back?
How are you feeling about it all today?
