How to get the sticky black marks off skin after HRT patches?

I started on Evorel Sequi patches last month; change them twice a week. I wear black knickers and tend to wear black/navy jeans.

The black sticky mark left on my thigh/buttock is a nightmare to get off! I've tried scrubbing with shower gel and a puff in the shower, baby oil and warm coconut oil with a cotton pad. And picking with my nail with the oil on, but end up with red raw skin.

Anyone else any bright ideas please? It can be awkward if they're on my butt cheek, too, as hard to see what I'm doing.

Nail varnish remover, wash it off after you’ve got the black residue off

I just rub really hard with the towel after a shower and it eventually comes off.

ThatGladTiger · 26/02/2026 07:47

I posted about this a while back. Don’t buy any of the gels/creams for this.

Baby oil and a cotton pad work wonders!

MissCooCooMcgoo · 26/02/2026 07:50

Vaseline

UserN0tFound · 26/02/2026 07:54

Oil and cotton pad - apply the oil and let it soak in for a minute or so before rubbing

quietlycontent · 26/02/2026 08:06

Also rub it with the patch you are taking off, the sticky stuff sort of sticks to itself

needanewusernamefor2026 · 26/02/2026 08:09

Olive oil. I used to use contraception patches and this was the only thing that worked.

Celiathebanshee · 26/02/2026 08:17

Just rub the patch over it when you take it off. It’s not instant but it works

Additup · 26/02/2026 08:20

I rub in a really rich, oily moisturiser like castor oil, EA 8 hour cream or Ceraphil for about 20 seconds. It soaks in and later that day it just rubs off really easily.

Bicnod · 26/02/2026 08:20

I spray avon skin so soft on it and leave it to soak in. Then after about 10 minutes it rubs off easily.

This. Nothing else works for me.

Study stuff remover - not the spray though!! The liquid - get from Tesco or Amazon

Moveyourbleedingarse · 26/02/2026 08:35

I bought some remover wipes from amazon. I only use them if I'm going on holiday though. I don't bother the rest of the time, no one sees my bottom!

Shutuptrevor · 26/02/2026 08:37

Baby oil on for a few minutes and then a brisk rub with the bath towel works best here.

Somersetbaker · 26/02/2026 09:29

Surgical spirit, methylated spirit, acetone and isopropanol are good for removing the residue from elastoplast. WD40 is brilliant at removing the glue left when you peel labels or price stickers off, but I've never (deliberately) tried it on skin.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 26/02/2026 09:31

I just use my nails so trying some of the ideas here.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 26/02/2026 09:34

Zoff wipes.

StuntNun · 26/02/2026 09:37

A small amount of soap and a flannel works well. You have to get one corner off and work your way round for best results.

Thats good to know - ive still got bits on my windows from some Xmas stickers from years ago!

Playingvideogames · 26/02/2026 09:38

Olive oil. Rub a small amount in, give it a few minutes, rub off with a towel or flannel. I do it before getting in the shower (freestyle libre)

FiddleFigs · 26/02/2026 09:40

OP, I could have written your post - so frustrating. But what's worked for me (only as of this morning!) is some L'Occitane shower oil - I just dabbed a small amount on the gunky bits and rubbed it with a flannel - came right off!

CocksBolingey · 26/02/2026 09:43

Pop a bit of baby oil on a cotton pad and wipe over the area where your patch was stuck. It removes it straight away! :)

GoldDuster · 26/02/2026 09:55

Surgical spirit, in a ziplock bag with a handful of cotton wool pads. Nothing else works for me.
